DMN blurb: Cobbs invited to 2 all star game
meangreendork replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
These two games will give PC an opportunity to show how good he can be when he's wth the right OLine. I'm sure the NFL scouts are paying attention to this. Furthermore, I'll like seeing a NT helmet on those fields. Hope you accept the invites Mr Cobbs. They can do a lot for your NFL prospects, and definitely deserve a shot at the bigtime. -
President survery results are in
meangreendork replied to Mean'n'Green07's topic in Mean Green Football
Voted, but the questions were skewed and there was little about athletics in the survey. Furthermore, the school (again) did a crap-tacular job of letting people know about the survey. This reminds me of the "survey" supposedly conducted the year before the new logos were designed. The admin said that a "sampling" of students was taken or some BS like that. -
I don't care. An apology doesn't squat unless Dickey were to put something behind that. Otherwise, he'll make an empty apology, then cough up the OOC games and then do his usual. And YES. He is lacking fan support. The team isn't, but Dickey is. When you call a draw on 3rd and very long, or when you don't call a play with less than 10sec in the 1st half, you'll lose support.

This isn't a likely thing to have happen, but I think Steve Mariucci would be a godsend here. BUT...He's too expensive. At any rate, I firmly believe that the Lions owner is at fault for the bad production of the Lions, and this includes the coaches prior to Mariucci.

Dickey-Gate? DMN blurb? Delusional!
meangreendork replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't like Dickey's performance this year and I don't like his overall record either, but you tell me what we'll do about replacing Dickey. Unless you've got a pile of money and a coach lined up, you're wasting breath yapping on like you can get rid of Dickey and buy another coach. It's not like we don't want better coaching, but I think a lot of us realize that even if Dickey blew it this year, the BOR is probably going to keep him around for at least one more year. I'm really crossing my fingers and hoping DD pulls his head out and recruits the best players he can from wherever he can and that he gets the team to where it needs to be. While he may be guaranteed another year, I don't know if he'll have a place at UNT if he serves up another crap season like this one. KingDL- Care to elaborate on the bad blood between RV and DD? I have guesses, but I could be wrong. -
MP didn't look so hot vs. ASU. Poor guy got nailed more than his share of times back there because he couldn't get any protection. Here's to both getting a lot better and to DD possibly finding a JC QB in the meantime.

Wonder how some schools are getting their talent?
meangreendork replied to LongJim's topic in Mean Green Football
Where are the parents? How many times can we use that question in relation to a news story in the US? It's sad what happens when parents flunk at raising their children, in any situation. -
Xbox 360 Comic
meangreendork replied to Coffee and TV's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
There isn't enough draw for either machine for me so far. I'm not thoroughly impressed with the 360's library (thus far) to drop money on it now, and Sony hasn't shown me any real proof that the machine is as good as it's said to be. It'll be like the last console race- the games will draw my business, I don't care much for hardware power. It'll be whatever system has what I want, then whatever Nintendo releases. I like that Microsoft has really turned it all on for the online content, trailers, demos, gameplay, spectating on other games, all of that sounds awesome. I'm not impressed with the game lineup and developer list. I do like that Sony's going to be carrying franchises I'm already familiar with, being that alot of them are under Japanese developers, but I'm really iffy about the controller design and if the machine is as powerful as they claim. Call me undecided on Sony and MS, call me decided on Nintendo. I'd like to see what they can do with the gyroscope controller and the different add-ons for it. -

Release date was changed in October, I think. I do however, think that pricepoint is dead-on. More reason to wait. -
Dear Craig... We've missed him since he left. Man, he nailed people AND covered the field like a giant umbrella. I say that our coaches need to get his brother and keep an eye on DeMario Thomas. We know JT will be here for a while, starting at RB. I figure that the coaches won't move to a wishbone or fullhouse backfield like that, so why not put that DeMario at WR or have him as a killer backup? We can't miss out on talent like these Jones and Thomas.

DD’s comments on what went wrong this year (DRC)
meangreendork replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
That's all nice. But it doesn't amount to a hill of beans unless he turns that into results on the field and off the field. Fewer penalties, fewer players lost to academics and conduct, better play performance. -
Illuvius32! Though your pal is getting a little big-headed about teh UT program... He's absolutely correct. Having rush champs is nice, but to really get noticed, we have to start thwomping someone outside of our conference. Yeah, KState, Tulsa and LaTech aren't as big as your pal would like, but going 10-1 would get us looked at. Once our program can go out and start nailing known teams like Baylor, SMU, (whether or not they're good that season or not), then we'll get attention. If the team can go out and look good or even win against the likes of Utah, Fresno, Boise, then that's better. If the team can look good and God-Bless 'em- WIN against Top25 schools, then that's magnificent. I like the SBC champ title, but it doesn't mean jack when our conference champ gets whomped on by teams that it should be able to beat.

Madden is pretty much a rip-off. But if you're EA and you're the only people with the NFL license, you can pretty much publish any crap you like. Heck, EA has a history of being really lazy- look at the PS2/XB versions of NBA Live and compare them to NBA 2K6. The 2K6 game is SO much better. For prices- Sony will probably launch with a similar price to the 360. That is, unless they somehow pack enough into the PS3 to make it worth the money. Nintendo will probably lowball them with a price tag that's -$100 of the others. I personally think it's too early to buy the 360. Price is too high and the competition hasn't made their submission yet. -
How about a summary or script of what was said?

I think he's earned his place as a UNT legend. Now we just gotta find someone rich enough to make a statue.
-
We can speculate- if for no other reason than the fact that the change comes to two possibilities: 1.) The staff pulls their heads together and really makes changes on and off the field. That means discipline, smarter recruiting, better playcalling, etc. This will result in better production or at least, fewer stupid penalties. (That takeback of the JQ return could've put the game into OT) 2.) The staff needs to have some people replaced.

Has North Texas become the step-child of
meangreendork replied to Green Grenade II's topic in Mean Green Football
Wish you could be here. But I agree- the losses by themselves are barely acceptable, but losing by such large margins, THAT is not acceptable. When you lose by margins like that, it makes it look as if the coaches phoned it in, and in turn, the players. I'm not for a coaching change now, but should next year yield the same results, I'll join that ship. I think that the coaches should do more than they have this year. Period. -

$800? That'd be a disastrous price tag for Sony...I doubt that'll be the actual retail price. As for Ebay junkies, I won't be shocked to see it go that far. As for the 360, all the mags say it's great, but of course, none of the games really make the best of its ability, but that's how launch titles go. I was shocked to see that the Madden NFL game was so stripped down. Lack of a training mode, no superstar mode; kinda shocking, really. Everything else looks good, about where the top-of-the line PCs are right now. -

That's pretty funny. The whole core-console thing is kind of a ripoff, especially the HD portion. I also found it funny to see people actually lined up outside of stores for these things. I mean, pre-ordering isn't too hard. Besides, technical probs always pop up in the first batch, the competition hasn't released their machine yet, and the price is far more than just too high, at $3-400 for the console. I'd wait. -
DMN: NT running game has not worked out
meangreendork replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
I hope PC goes pro- he's too good not to make it, I'm certain he's put in the work hours, the sweat and the determination. -
Joel Nwigwe looks great on streak routes. I hope he stays healthy and comes back to be a killer WR along with JQ and the up-and-coming Jackson.

Why cause the confusion? There are a lot of people who know nothing about college athletics, so why throw them off? Like I said, the eagle is what we have now, might as well make the best of it. I don't much like the lettermarks, but eagle and the eagle head pass. Trying to get a change now will waste more money and confuse more people. Excuse me if I'm tired of hearing about logos. The school made one, it's only mildly satisfactory as a whole to everyone, let's leave it alone.
-
10k, tops. The fact that SOOO many students that live on campus will be gone, and those that live off campus that would come in with them not attending, it's probably gonna be nasty.
-
It should be the Exes logo. I know the BB team uses something similar. As for aligning ourselves with other, bigger teams- why be content with looking like we belong when the real question is, why not look different? Why look like them when we can be different and better? I look at schools like VT, or Oregon who have a style that's all their own. I look at Miami's orange U and that's something particular to that school. Look at the C for UConn, and that's something particular to them as well. It's easy to pick something that everyone else is using, it's far more impactful to execute something that isn't. But hey, what we have now is locked in. Frankly, I'd rather that the school FINALLY stick to some sort of identity system, regardless of what it is. With the switching of marks almost every year, I think something consistent is important.

Yes, please. Let's go ahead and make our logo look like the logo of at least 10 different universities with the old style block letters.
