  1. New system? I don't care if uses the old system as long as it works!
  2. You got more padding than I do. And from what I remember, you did kinda lay her out. I'm waiting for her to give you the payback this year
  3. Well...time to hire Patrick Cobbs to coach the RBs. He mentored JT, so why not? Bet he'd take a smaller salary, too.
  4. Euless- It's not hard to see it this way. I like that we've gotten some guys on the OL/DL, but I'm really concerned about the quality of the QBs. If the OL is strong, that's awesome, but it doesn't do us any good if the QB gets a 1/2hour in the pocket if he still can't hit a target. The recruiting class has a lot to prove and a lot of responsibility. Frankly, I think that this class had better be part of Dickey's grand miracle to save his job and his coaching career. Other coaches would love to be at a school that is lenient enough to allow the performance Dickey had and allow the same level of control Dickey has now. But about UTEP's coach and those like him: It's salesmanship, to the recruits and to the fans, and in terms of getting budgets and hiring the right assistant coaches, it's salesmanship to the Admin.
  5. Let's call Dodge and let him know that if he coaches here, he'll get nearly free-reign to improve the program...and that we'll give him a $15k signing bonus on top of a $110k 3-year contract.
  6. Euless: I'll venture some of your questions: 5.) I'm betting that if DD blows this next season, everyone will be calling for his head. 2-9 would've gotten other coaches fired, I think that if DD throws another season away, then he has to go. This fall is his "benefit of the doubt" season, and I think he knows it. 7.) TCU's had more prestige than UNT for a good while now. It also helps that they've been in 'better' conferences than the SBC. Oh, and donor money...that helps too. However, none of this is an excuse for not pulling out all of the stops when it comes to recruiting. And as for beating the slump: 8.) DD needs to go 2/4 in OOC, and not only sweep the 'Belt but absolutely dominate the conference by posting 21+ leads, win the Bowl, and try not to get absolutely obliterated at UT. And every year, he needs to keep getting better. Heck, that's not a goal to beat the slump for DD, that should be the conditions of his continued employment at UNT. I thank DD for the 4SBC rings, I don't thank him for last fall, and I don't thank him for the OOC record.
  7. Funny...we've seen a lot of our assistant coaches go to bigger schools. It's odd that Flanny and Dickey haven't been called up yet. Now, who do we get to replace Van Malone?
  8. Maybe you have enough padding to be nailed by a 250lb guy, but I don't.
  9. The experience isn't really there for WW, but it's his performance in those 6 or so games that really sticks, I think. Basically said, in only 1/2 of the season, he outperformed Daniel Meager's stats for the whole season. However, WW was playing JUCO ball against JUCO teams. How this balances out, I'm not sure, though I read that WW's old JUCO team is a run-first offense.
  10. Hey, I like that idea. Maybe a 2RB shotgun variant so we can really scare the opposition?
  11. I think that San Francisco needs a team mascot "U. San Fran Wok-Hats". Actually, "Samurai" would be a killer mascot/team name now I think of it. But it's Asian, so never mind that. Heaven forbid that we adopt a mascot name of a group we find admirable qualities in. I'm waiting for PETA to wig out about animal names for teams. I'm sure we'll hear something like, "We don't believe that the lions appreciate being cheapened by a pro football team." You know, because lions actually care.
  12. I'm impressed by Kelvin Drake. Not by his size, not by his on-the-field, but by his academics. Now that is truly impressive. Any kid can get to 300lbs of power, but it takes a special person to have the intelligence, too.
  13. I REALLY dare ULM to play FSU and try that chant. I dare them. I dare them to go into that lion's den and try that bootleg Seminole-chop crap on the Seminoles themselves. Way to be original, ULM. I don't think they should change mascots, though. That's political BS.
  14. That call was pretty bad. It was outrageous, actually. Sturns, even without the player to land on, wasn't at all capable of blocking the shot or even tipping it in. The fouls, both of them, were off. He might've been in position, but if you got a replay, you'd see he wasn't really paying attention to the ball.
  15. Some of the greeks made it out in force as well...and stayed the entire game. That was nice to see.
  16. A repeat of this past fall is definitely grounds for some shake-ups at coaching positions across the board. Every coach should be pushing for more of their side of the ball- just in case the other side doesn't come through and because it's a thorough way to coach. I want that SMU win, though. I want them smashed. I want the coach to be hit so hard that he goes home questioning his career choice.
  17. DM will have to have had a miracle off-season before I trust the offense to him again. I know the line crumbled fast and he never really got settled, but there were times he had plenty of time to pass and he was still off target. I like his speed, but his pocket presence wasn't what we needed last fall. Could he be our guy? Well, I hope the new QBs motivate him to show us all what he's really got. Or, he can look forward to a season on the bench. And at RB, JT should be fine since he's lost that weight and if his leg's good to go. Even if he's not, I have faith in the other RB's our coaches have recruited in the last years. It's a lot like when JT was out for the ASU game a year back; he was out, but we had a strong runner in James Mitchell who did a great job.
  18. We got into quite the scream fit about that incident. I really do believe that Baylor should follow school colors and have Green/Gold on their flag and football unis. As we've seen, they seem to like Green/White more. Now I'm waiting to see Baylor change the font for the football unis and have a long-written out "Baylor University" on their helmets.
  19. That's always a good thing. If we can draw good QBs here, we can establish a strong corps of guys to shoot the ball around. With those not qualified enough to make it as QB backups, we put them at other positions that need their skill sets or body types. It also looks like we're getting the guys we need at both sides of the line, too. Hats off to the recruiting staff. The team might just be able to back up DD's bold statement at the Banquet!
  20. On a related note- I've read that for public colleges, tuition's STILL skyrocketing while the average number of students per instructor is climbing. Makes me wonder where my money's going.
  21. Um, and we're not chasing this kid because of what reason now? C'mon, coaches, he's already interested before we sent people to talk to him. That's like not talking to a cute girl who's been interested in you before you even met her!
  22. His old JC was primarily running, then?
  23. Sykes looks to have the size of a LB or TE. But hey, if he can be a rush end and nail the offense, he's got my vote at DE. Our new CB signee has HEIGHT. No offense Ja'Mel, you were fast and had good hands, but it's hard to cover a guy who's 6'3" if you're not even 5'9".
  24. Well, he might not have Hall's face, but he's got Hall's hair from a few years back. Anyone remember his Mick Jagger? Come training, it'll be nice to see Steven and Woody fight it out for QB against Philips. Sorry if I've just about closed the book on Danny.
  25. WOO! Those are some mighty big kids right there. Now, to make sure our returning guys put on some muscle.
