Your post is worthy of some thoughts and actions. I would like to know of any companies owned or run by UNT alums. that way I could support them. BTW, Jay and I were Sig Eps in the early 80's together. He has given alot and was invloved in the construction of the new house on the other side of campus. He is a fan of athletics and I have sen him at several football games. He should be working with Coach Jones as he is a spiffy dresser.

I like their schedule. Minnesota at home and beatable. Two away games to Atlanta and Memphis. This looks like great road trips to me from their campus.

I was there also and thought this was a very tough game for us. But I will Rice some credit. They had three ver big (tall) guys (15,14, and 4). They took the inside away with some good defense. The only time we started to pull away was when Johnson was on fire from the 3 line. If they would have changed their d then we might have been able to go inside. We never panicked and looked very poised. But honestly they do not look as good to me as our tourney year against Memphis. We were the real deal then and getting better. Maybe it is just early in the season and again Rice was tall, agressive and played smart (not many turnovers to me). For those there what about all those traveling calls that were missed. I have never seen anything like that. It went both ways. There was a rugby game that we went over to watch as we parked. It was UNT vs Rice. Fun to watch but I have no clue. The red bull girls were there giving away free drink. Also there was a high school playgame game at the staduim. Great to see a campus in perfect fall weather with alot of sports venues.

Rice got taken to the woodshed last night by Harvard. I will be there with my son. Last time we played there our crowd was not too bad and the arena has undergone some nice changes. also South Carolina and Tulsa punded wku and osu respectivly. I think little rock took a hard loss this week also. I guess it is a dwon year for the belt. New Orleans got a win over Tulane. mtsu and ulm lost.

paper this morning shows Tulsa blowing out fiu and Ohio taking it to mtsu. also it shows utsa beating Iiowa by 12, interesting. acutally that is huge.

What makes Bowling Green a great college town? I am guessing that having the local paper cover the school and look at it as a great component of the city helps. I started a thred on colleg towns and would like to hear about how the town supports wku and does it have a vibrant retail/eatery lifestyle off campus.

I realize we cannot make realistic projections comparing ourselves to ut or am. But what got me thinking about this today was a memory from when I lived in Knoxville about 19 yers ago. We moved there in the fall and the first weekend there was a game. We were unpacking and moving into our apt. which was on the other side of town from campus. I went to the local burger king and found it all decorated with vol stuff and every employee in vol garb. Now certaily I would have expectd this from the bk across from the school but not all the way across town. That town shut down traffic all day Saturday. And many came by boat. It would be great if the dart came to the stadium or campus. fyi - as far as moving to a place where NT is recognized, Knoxville is high on the list. Everyone I told where I went to school automatically brought up their infamous homecoming game where we upset them. they definilty knew the mean green, that was fun for a change.

Guys I am not sure which forum to place this but I will start here. After visiting several "college towns" and acutally living in a big one (Knoxville) I would say that Denton falls way short of being called a classic college town. Why is this? Where does Denton fall short? Is is the school's fault? I love college towns and the vibes they have on game day. I am an old timer and live out of town but I am curious if we have much buzz at the local retail strips around or the eateries? how about the bars post game? I know our tailgating has improved dramatically and I am excited about that aspect of game day. I really want us to have some great tailgating areas around the stadium. Maybe around the pond. Maybe a small amphitheatre for bands that could be used for other venues. How about a RV section with hook ups. Just thought I would throw out a new topic as things are getting a bit redundant and depressing around here.

I am interested also. Please give me the address if possible.

I was reading today's Houston Chronicle (the DMN is superior) and came across an article on this weeks game they have with tech. I wish someone could try and post it here. It was discussing how the students were camping out to get the remaining 100 or so tickets for the sell out. One student was surprised at the school spirit and was explaining how usually people wear jerseys on campus of other schools. Is this in our future. Being an old SWC school gives UH some history we do not have but this school should not be heads and shoulders above us and they are. They have had some big time alums step and give money but this school is nothing so special that they should be above us in sports.

I do not post much but I thought I would throw this out there. Last week I found a small wku basketball in my house. Later that day I stumbled across a wku pin on hte kitchen counter. Upon further investigation I uncovered where this crap was coming from. My oldest daughter just cam back from a softball tournament in Florida. this was a national tourmanemt so the tradition is for each team to swap goody bags with the team they play in their first game. They had played a team form Kentucky and some wku stuff was in the bags. they obviously were from the town or area where wku is located. It was small junk stuff but I found it interesting. Would a team from Denton do this? I believe in branding the school. that is why I especially like our name to be the MEAN GREEN. Something lthat sticks out like that can be marketed. should marketing be a big push for us while the stadium is being built. Is now until opening day a great opprotunity to reconnect with the fan base. going to see the new staduim should be a big draw (if only for the courious). And once you have the chance show the alums that have given up hope that this school can provide us with pride and a great game day experiance. Blow them away with our tailgating and new and old traditions and see what new found fans we can uncover.

Nice Field Level Photos Of Troy's Stadium
kingwoodgreen replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
I just personally do not like end zone seats. And I do not want our new stadium to have a large section that will remind us of how we struggle with attendance. It is a fact and always has been. I just do not want to have these seats emphasize one of our shortcomings. The old fouts did have a great end zone with all the trees. It had a great natureal feel. Many old staduiums did not have end zone seats untial they started to fill up. I believe North Carolina and Duke were this way. I have always liked a grass bermed end zone for students. Virgina used to have this. It never looks empty. Kids tend to gravitate to it. I want us to look like a packed house instead of distributing our base over a stadium we will not be able to fill up for a while. -
Being in a great conference. One that brings in alot of money for football and other programs. Good rivals and teams that bring fans to the games. A great schedule that will awaken the "potenital" (or at least put that theory to rest) alums to reconnect. But being mediocre in football while having other programs being good to great ala Baylor. oh yea, I would take it in a heartbeat.

I've Got A Recruiting Fever
kingwoodgreen replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Washington signed with UH today. They are looking strong in thier recruiting so far. -
Josh Pastner is from Kingwood, a local boy who played for Kingwood High. His dad started the local youth league and ran it for years along with the two largest aau tournaments in the country. He and his sister went to school on scholarships. This was a bold hire and quite an opportunity for his first job. He is a recruiter and has learned to coach under Lute. He may be the next golden boy or goat.

Bataille Imposes New Requirement For P C
kingwoodgreen replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I really do not blame you guys for being upset. Here is what I what like for her to express. Hey everyone I need a slush fund. And my review of UNT's history shows a lack of alumni giving overall but especailly to our underfunded athletic program. If I could get this program back on track then I believe and statistics show that alumni involvment will increase. And with the connectlivity to the school it will garner an increase in funding for many areas of the university. This is what happens at most of the Div. 1 schools across the nation. We need a mechanism that will reconnect and bring back our former students. This is one of my priorites. If accomplished then many of our alumni will see the school in a different light. I need to right this ship and make up for some lost time. It will pay off for UNT for generations if we are successful. Instead I fear for the status quo of our great institution. Will nobody step up and put us on a new course? Great leaders break new ground. We need to go where UNT has never gone before. And that is a commitment to athletics. We are a minority on this subject, most all the other fine institutions of learning get it. I know I know, the alumni do not give enough, attendance is crap and the students do not care. But I say much of this attitude stems from the university which seems like it is uncommitted to athletic excellance. I see the good things that are happening recently but I still feel unsure about UNT's commitment. It needs to be a priority and come from the top. Question for those in the know, Are we getting the leadership on this from the top? Am I the only one expecting this to be a priority so we can catch up with others. Is this not in her job description or should her time be spent elsewhere? -
I understand what the Daily is. The point is the story does belong there. The story may belong in the Denton rag. BUT not in the DMN sport section. That is what I am saying. No censorship just priortizing news.
-
By saying this story belongs in the Daily but not newsworthy for a major metroplitan newspaper is censorship? Come on, it just common sense that this is local college buzz. That is what this thread is about. Not the "only good new should go to press" tired waste of human thought. We all know the press should report the good and bad. It is their job. But they do not put Daily level bits in the DMN sports section. Again this thread did not suggest that Vito report this story possibly in the Denton paper but the Dallas paper? Stop with the axis of evil stuff. Evil is out there it is just not us.
-
This is a story that belongs in the Daily but not in the DMN sports section. Come on. We do not even know what validity to give this event yet. This is some students trying to voice their rebellion and certainly their rights. Hopefully as has been stated "no worries" on this situation. But this is not newsworthy in the DMN! All press is not good press. Kids may not be reading this but some parents (Dads) are and they do give their opinions on where there kids go to school. "Maby you should not consider NT, I get the impression they are anti sports/spirt". Whatever it is the impression may have been made. I believe we are working towards a different attitude towards UNT sports overall. But with our history (or lack of it ) most of our momentum is baby steps. And this frustrates us all. Bad pr like this can really set us back. And we are in a pr battle for students and alum money. Part of our past problems was that the administration did not put resources into this pr battle. Heck I am not sure if they even wanted to step up the plate or realized what all the other schools were doing. We are so far behind and this kind of stuff sets us back with the public and our own sleeping alums.

winning on the road is tough, but if last night's game is any indication this team may have a good away record. Last night, especially at the end, this team could have let this one get away. Again they seemed to have that composure that confidnet teams have. I was sitting on the first row and never saw this team frustrated even after sam made their runs. Coach never seemed to me to panic and call a time out after their runs. Maybe this team takes the cue from him. I was 10 feet away from white when he got fouled for the last ft's. His face showed that he really wanted to go to the line and ice the game. I was at the game and was srprised to see he led in scoring. What a stealth player. But he still does not handle the press well at all.
-
My son and I drove to the game last night from Kingwood. I did not think either team played that well. They had a tough D (except for their inbound plays) and they seemed qicker than us. But we found a way to win. White kept getting trapped on the double team and did not look good at all in the first half. I will give him credit for the bif ft's at the end. They were clutch as well as Stewerts. Sam should have tried the full court press more as we struggled with it still. Overall the team kept their head in the game. Johnnie has some depth and used it well. Tristan looked good as well as GEorge at times. It was a team win as nobody really stood out to me. Their #10 was hot and they did not get the ball in his hands late. The refs were bad both ways. I think it got to coach after a while. He is so cool on the sidelines compared to most coaches. This was a tough win. The team kept it's composure which is a good sign of a mature and well coached team. We had some great blocks and our shot selection was good. This may be a real smart team that plays within themselves. That could make for a good season in the belt.

My son and I are going to the game. We live only about an hour away in Kingwood. We are meeting my cousin who was a big booster for Sam from his day as the local Chevy dealer. They beat tech at home last year and lost to them in Lubock last night,
