I am interested in going to practice on either Monday or Tuesday. I would like to see how the D Line is coming along for new Coach Nelson and how the new JUCO WR's are doing.

When I moved to Texas twenty some years ago, I found out there are two sports...Football and Spring Football! I am glad that Spring Football is upon us. Thanks for the posting!

How did the the thread of Tyler Stradford, OU Transfer and discussions if he would be eligible for the 2009 season end up going to discussions of TD as the coach???

I manage a business but it is not one that I can really do much advertising for but here are my "amateur" marketing ideas for the upcoming Spring Game. I pick the Spring game because football is the number one sport in our great state and fans will have had a two month withdrawal from football....Start with more promotion of the Spring Game to the UNT students, UNT Alumi and the Denton community. Those three groups are more than even of a base to draw from plus the rest of the Metroplex is not interested in the Mean Green. Do some Spring game promotions from various Denton businesses in the parking lot for Tailgating. Also have a Recession discounted price special for season tickets and possibly put a few season ticket / Mean Green Club membership booths in the parking lot. Have a few contests for season ticket give aways in the parking lot. Have the players in full uniform and coaches walk through the entire tailgating lot not just the standard Mean Green walk for the Spring game. The Mean Green needs more fans in the seats in 2009. The Mean Green Club Members should be given a membership card. That card should allow you admittance to all Spring and Fall Scrimmages and Practices.

Since Brett Vito announced in the DMN that Forest Rucker has been suspended and is not attending school this semester, who of the following receivers (Barrett, Brigham, Carey, Dickerson, Jamel Jackson, Breece Johnson, Lott, Mayberry, Roberson and Taylor) do we think will make an impact this fall?
-
I am hoping Lance is good....I liked what I saw in the five games he played before getting injured. I looked at his Rivals.com page from 2008 and saw he had scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Colorado and Virginia.
-
I did see Cantly at the Football Banquet a few weeks ago...He is one big guy even without shoulder pads and a helmet on!
-
I do see a close battle between DeSoto, Franklin, Cantly and Jackson for the DT spot along side of Atkinson. I saw a lot of promise from DeSoto with his performance in the final game of the season.
-
I think that if either Gill or Santiago was to be replaced as starters it would be by Matt Tomlinson. He redshirted in 2007 and he had a shoulder injury in the Spring of 2008.

I agree....I do not understand why Riley at times gets bashed on this board. What has he done wrong at UNT in the three games he played in as a true freshman other than his father is hated by some on this board? He did not get to be a Class 5A Player of the Year in the nations best high school football state for mediocre ability. Fans should be happy that he is on this team. I saw him play in the high school playoffs at Texas Stadium and on TV maybe six or seven times. All I saw was a skilled QB who will always know TD's offense better than any QB that will ever be recruited. Sure he is small but I also saw how often he bounced off would be tacklers and kept running. If Nathan Tune does beat out Riley for the starting job then I am also confident in his abilities because he has two full years of learning TD's system and he came from an equally successful high school program. Go Mean Green!

I guess you are not taking into consideration all of RV's efforts in getting the student stadium vote passed which probably is the biggest hurdle in the new stadium process. Sure the team is terrible now with too many issues in the last two seasons but the new stadium plays greater into the long term success of UNT football than probably anything else.

This is an excellent selling point that I had not seen previously discussed. I have been to many Bands of America events. They are day long competitions that bring money into the community and exposure to UNT. I have seen 5,000-10,000 people at these. A plush, new stadium would create a positive image of UNT and its football program.

Rice 38 UNT 31 The Mean Green's defense looked alot better in the second half of Tulsa and at times against mighty LSU. The offense looked better against Tulsa and at times against LSU. Special teams continue to be a problem. I am optimistic we can be competitive for the whole game against Rice.

For $21.95 the Mean Green game is on Verizon FIOS ESPN PPV Channel 704.
-
Although getting beat again by a huge margin is discouraging, I think that is a great perspective to help watch the game with....FYI...John Shorter did have an interception at Kansas State.
-
I am staying at the Marriott Medical Center. It is only a six block walk to the football stadium.
-
As much as we don't want to see Kelvin Drake out with an injury, it will be good to see our first of the three 2007 OL signees see playing time in JJ.
-
I am sure the coaches do check out the players academic status during the recruiting process as best they can. However, the coaches and athletic academic advisors can not baby sit all 105 current players and those that have signed Letters of Intent for the next season. Regarding Gilmore and Horton, the players do have to take some personal responsibility to make sure they in good academic standing. I am not sure what the coaches could have done here in Denton to prevent Nate Jenkins in Mississippi from gaining 43 lbs from his signing day weight listed of 335 lbs to his current roster weight of 378 lbs.

This is a great idea to improve school spirit and hopefully motivate more students to attend the games. I applaud TD for doing this.

Meangreensports.com just posted an article announcing that the Tulsa, Rice, Florida International and Western Kentucky games will be televised on TXA 21.

Drake did not play in the spring. Bryan Glass and JJ Johnson handled the center position.

My Kansas State tickets were in the mailbox today.....Countdown to kickoff is 12 days!
