The Sports Center moments of all Sports Center moments (before Sports Center, btw) Win 1) Sears Woods' kickoff return TD of 90+ yards to seal a North Texas State upset victory over the University of Tennessee in front of 75,000 Knoxville stunned fans. Loss 1) The out of bounds touchdown pass given to UT in the final moments of our upset of UT. (This is the game where Tim Donaghy got his start)

Dale Hansen had Dodge on his show last week. After the interview, he mentioned that he should have asked him if SL Carroll could beat UNT. Today's question was a request from Hansen. Also, Randy Galloway did attend NT but graduated from Sam Houston St (I believe) http://stations.espn.go.com/stations/espn1033/

August 27, 2007 Blue Zertuche TexasHoops.com Recruiting Analyst 6'5", Nolan Dennis is the most versatile guard in the class of 2009 in the state of Texas and one of the most valued recruits. With two years of varsity basketball still left to play, Dennis has made a decision. He will stay right here in the state of Texas after months of rumors and speculation. "I will be staying at North Richland Hills," said Dennis, putting to rest any confusion of where he will be playing his junior year of basketball. "I never left. I never withdrew from North Richland Hills. I just looked around and wanted to see what my options were." During the summer Dennis plays for the Dallas Mustangs and learned some valuable lessons on the court. "The summer went ok," said Dennis. "It was a little up and down. I did have some really good games and I learned that you have to be ready from the get-go. That is the attitude that I will be playing with this year. I feel that everyone will be gunning for me on the court and I have to be ready." Some of the top programs in the country have all ready offered Dennis, but a few more have stepped up and added themselves to the list. "Recently more teams have offered. I now have official offers from Georgia Tech, Georgetown, Texas, North Carolina, Memphis, Villanova, Iowa State, Kansas, Marquette, Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Those are the new offers I have received over the summer," added Dennis. Dennis says that Oklahoma State, Stephen F. Austin, Arkansas, Baylor, Cincinnati, and Indiana had already extended offers. He has unofficially visited Baylor and Texas and Dennis adds that he has no leader at the moment. Texas Hoops Analysis:NOLAN can play the one-two-or three position on the court. He is a dominant player with the ball in his hands, his size and length gives him the ability and advantage to see over defenders, has superb ball handling skills, can take a defender from the wing and hit the three, pull-up for a mid-range jumper, or finish above the rim over the defense. He is very explosive and hard to contain in the open court, he is a long and athletic defender who will rebound, then lead the break and find his open teammates, he has the ability to take over a game at any time.

No chance at all for the services of the son of UNT great Ronnie Morgan. Just an update on his recruitment. August 24, 2007 Blue Zertuche TexasHoops.com Recruiting Analyst 6'10" South Oak Cliff post, J'Mison Morgan has released his top seven schools that he will choose from in the fall. Morgan has become one, if not the top post player in the nation that is being pursued by some of the top programs in the country. "My top seven are, LSU, Alabama, Kentucky, Kansas, UCLA, Cincinnati, and Baylor," said Morgan. "They will all have a home visit first. Then I will see which ones I will visit officially. I have already been to LSU, Alabama, Kansas, and Baylor on unofficial visits." Morgan continues with what sets these seven programs apart from other offers which he has collected. "All these schools have a place for me to play right away. It will also depend on how much of an impact I can make my first year in their program. I want a place where I will have a lot of minutes to play. These schools also have great fan support and I have built a relationship with the coaches." Even with the seven schools listed that are getting home visits, Morgan says that there are still a few schools that he is still considering, though they may be long shots. "Texas and Connecticut are still there too. I am still considering them because they are great basketball programs." Morgan says that a decision will come in the early signing period. "There is no time to waste," said Morgan. "I will have a decision on November 2nd. I will have taken my visits by then and my senior year is very important to me." Morgan and the rest of the Golden Bears will be hunting for their fourth 4A title in as many years. "I want no distractions for me or my teammates," explains Morgan. "We all just need to focus on the season." Summer coach Jazzy Hartwell, of the Urban DFW Elites that Morgan played for, says that Morgan is ready for the challenge of big-time basketball at the next level. "Bobo [Morgan] proved to everyone that he is ready. He proved it this summer playing against the best competition around. All I have been hearing is how great he played and how dominant he is in the paint." Hartwell continues to say that Morgan has worked very hard and is in the best shape of his life, but wants him to focus on one thing. "I want to make sure that he is going to keep his weight under control. Everyone knows how hard he has worked to slim down, but also keep it off and I feel that is the key component for him to be successful where ever he goes." Texas Hoops Analysis: BOBO is a beast inside the paint, he is long and has the ability to be the most dominant player in the state and take over any game, he has great footwork and hands, finishes strong above the rim, gets himself into position to rebound, is a tremendous shot blocker, he runs the floor well for his size, has good post moves, is a good free-throw shooter, can back down his opponent for easy baskets and is a strong defender.

After a couple of down years, Dallas' Lincoln Tigers leads the pack with the influx of the most talented incoming freshmen in the state (LB Nash) and freshman to be Jordan Williams. LeBryan Nash 6-6 SF Dallas Lincoln 2011 The most physically gifted and talented prospect in the 2011 group. Nash is long, extremely athletic and physically developed. He needs polish on his skills, but he's an adequate shooter/handler who has the tools to be an elite high major player in 4 years. Doward Evans 5-10 PG Dallas Carter 2010 Evans was clearly the top guard in the building on Saturday. He's fast, strong, athletic, good with the ball and sees the floor very well. He's an adequate shooter and should find a spot among the top 10 players in the class of 2010. Daniel Alexander 6-7 PF Dripping Springs 2010 Alexander had the gym buzzing with huge dunks and deep triples. He looks to be taking the step to being a top 5 player in 2010. He'll need strength, but he's a good athlete, with great skills (passes and handles it like a perimeter player). Definitely a high major prospect. Hyjii Thomas 6-3 SG/SF Houston BT Washington 2010 Probably the most athletic player in the 2010 group, Thomas is a skywalker. He handles it well and is an adequate shooter. High major potential. Ja' Darius Davis 6-6 PF Alief Hastings 2010 Tough and strong inside, Davis showed that he's capable of stepping out and making some shots. He's a tad undersized, but his 220-pound frame makes up for it inside. Likely a mid-major guy down the road unless he grows. John Michael Mudiay 6-4 SF/SG Mansfield Summit 2010 Extremely athletic and strong wing man with a solid skill set. He threw down several big time dunks and tossed in a few perimeter jumpers as well. John Bohannon 6-7 PF Lancaster 2010 Another big man who will shoot up the rankings. Bohannon is long and very skilled. As he gets stronger inside, he'll be even tougher. Good shooter and solid with the ball. High major potential. D.J. Griggs 5-9 SG/PG Brazosport 2013 A fine young prospect, Griggs is good with the ball, a solid shooter and has an advanced feel for the game. He's good at using his body to finish drives against older, more physically developed players. Jakeim Jackson 5-11 PG/SG Dallas Kimball 2010 Quick and athletic, Jackson is a smooth shooter who gets great lift on his jumper. He should be a fine addition to Kimball's already strong perimeter group. 5-11 Jamal Alfred PG/SG Houston CE King 2011 Alfred impressed with his stroke and quickness. Knocked down several jumpers and made some plays off the bounce. Clyde Smith 5-11 PG/SG Houston Westbury Christian 2012 Smith is solid across the board. Doesn't blow you away in any one area, but is good at everything. Shot it well on Saturday and showed the ability to finish drives. Antwane Wilson 5-11 PG/SG Wylie 2010 Unknown coming in, Wilson was very impressive at this event. He's long and quick and is a good finisher. Shoots it well, more of a scorer than a distributor right now. Jordan Williams 6-5 PF Dallas Lincoln 2011 Still developing, but shows great potenial. Solid shooter with range and has all the tools to develop into a fine prospect. SKeaton Miles 6-5 SF/PF Dallas Skyline 2011 Very long, skilled and clearly one of the top 5 guys in the 2011 group. Shoots it well, and is likely to grow a LOT. Jevante Thompson 5-10 PG Irving 2011 Ultra quick lefty was very impressive. Shoots it well with range and has no problems creating his own shot. Solid finisher for his size. Chris Roberson 6-5 PF Dallas WT White 2011 Developing young big man is long and bursting with upside. Michale Kyser 6-7 PF/C Lancaster 2010 Still developing offensively, Kyser is a good shot blocker and very long. He's got a nice touch with 3-point range. Amos Olatoyo 6-4 SF/SG Alief Elsik 2010 Another unknown coming in, Olatoyo was as impressive as anyone. He showed off big time athleticism, NBA 3-point range, a smooth stroke and the ability to create his shot. Likely a top 15 player in the class. Rashaun Riley 5-10 PG Cypress Creek 2010 Smooth and steady, Riley is a good shooter especially off the bounce. Not a big time athlete or super quick, but he has a good feel and has the ability to get inside and set others up. Kinzael Bolton 6-4 PF Houston Waltrip 2011 Lefty is quick and good inside. Long and athletic, he'll need to grow to continue to play inside.

I think your post needs to be repeated. It's working! The billboard(s) and mostly the banner are getting the attention of the casual fan in Dallas. Maybe not the best campaign ever but it's getting attention. Like you Boomer23, I remember the bad commercials just as much as I remember the good ones.

Generally, no one wants to talk about the many positive stories about our professional athletes. Often time, we are so quick to lump them all together in a very negative light. Quite frankly, it's a damn shame! Thanks David Moore for your article in the DMN today and thanks to Jason Terry for being a good person! http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...re.3098995.html

Breaking News -- Unt Hoops Team Lands 2007 Recruit
Cooley replied to BobFam's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Kenneth Williams was our starting center during the Blakeley era. When has a 6th man ever lead the nation in rebounding? He was 1st team all-state, (in the highest classification) lead SOC to the state finals and had several D1 offers. Ken was also an impact player from day one. Dennis Rodman, (also from SOC) was 5-11 his senior year and never played high school ball. I've never heard of a similar story like his. Like Censored by Laurie stated, for every "Worm" Rodman, there are thousands of other kids that never make it. No, this team is not a top 60 program; at this time. Top 60 is where I think we should strive to be in about 3 more years. Therefore, we need to recruit kids now that can contribute to a top 60 team. JJ has already had about 5 years to put his mark on this program. Why not? (Top 60) Hold the coaches accountable. RV will not hold the coaches accountable if the fans, students, alums and donors don't express their expectations. Let's never be content with a 5th place conference team with a watered down 23 wins. UNT can do better! I agree 110% with Censored by Laurie on this signing! Why would you waste a 4-year scholarship (renewable each year) on a guy that you just need for depth purposes next year? Keep the scholarship available for other worthy prospects. If there is only a 5% chance you can still get a Rod Flemings back, you hold the ship. JJ can always walk over to the mens gym and ask a 6-7 kid, off an intramural team, to help the team out with practices. Good Lord, McNeese State, of all programs, used hard ball tactics to pull this kids scholarship. -

Gee guys, I hate to be such a hard a**, but 6-7, 195, Power Forward? Range to the foul line? Complimentary player on his HS 3A team? “He will do a great job of providing us depth at the forward spot. I was hoping that JJ wouldn't just sign someone just to complete his roster. Why was he still on the board? (less than 2 weeks before school) Is he quality depth for a Top 60 program? Sounds like a clone of Harold Stewart! Anyway, Go Mean Green! -
Bootle Has Options August 15, 2007 TexasHoops.com Recruiting Staff At a robust 6-foot-7, 255-pounds, Antuan Bootle has the size and strength to battle anybody down in the paint. That's exactly what the rising St. Thomas Episcopal High School senior did on the AAU circuit with Houston Select and was one of the big reasons why the squad had such a successful run. Now that the games are over, Bootle is parlaying the success he had into a college recruitment that's moving along quickly. "The summer went really good," Bootle said. "We won the Great American Shootout in Denton and we came in second in a tournament in Tulsa. We had a good run in Vegas playing some tough teams like losing to the Atlanta Celtics and we made a good run in LA as well, making it to the semifinals." From an individual perspective, Bootle can't complain either. "Things went well," he said. "I had some really good games and I felt I really improved down low in the post. I got great experience playing against bigger and better players and that made me better." Plenty of coaches were on the sidelines of Houston Select games so it's no shock that Bootle has been getting plenty of love. "Recruiting has been going really well," Bootle said. "I'm hearing from Utah, North Texas, Tulane, New Orleans, Northern Arizona, Idaho, and some others." Bootle has received offers from some of the schools on his list, but declined to name them citing advice from his coach. But he does plan on trimming things down in the near future so he can go and take some official visits. "I'm going to wait until school starts to narrow down my list," Bootle said. "I want a program that goes hard and knows about the players and helps them get better. I also want good academics - just an all-around hard-working program." Bootle indicated that he hopes to sign in the fall.

Has any of the area schools seriously campaigned for an early season tournament featuring UNT, SMU, TCU & UTA? Throw in a kickoff game between a Dallas & Ft. Worth area high school powerhouse. You could run this series for 3 years at UNT, SMU & TCU. (Sorry UTA) Anyway, seems like there would be a great deal of interest opposed to some of the non-conference games and tournaments they currently play. I guess it make too much sense, so it will never happen.
-
Why would anyone want to see the same quarterbacks leading the 117th worst D1 offense in America? Upgrade or drop the program!

'GrandGreen' date='Aug 12 2007, 02:07 AM' pos Don't have that much concern about the front-court. Basically the same rotation as last year only a year more experienced. That's exactly my point Grand Green! Our coaches should always look to improve the roster each year. We will never advance this program being content with a 5th place conference team with most wins coming against a very soft non conference schedule. Darrell Dickey became complacent winning the start-up Sunbelt; with an extended contract. My sights are on a top 60 program (10-12 seed) within 3 years. The SuperPit is not an eyesore and the D/FW area is a hotbed for recruiting. There are hundreds of prospects on campus during the summer (for the GASO) and on most weekends at the IAD complex in Carrollton. We played our best ball at the right time last year. With the momentum and press we received, we can do better. JJ is starting to get it. By the way, Craig Robinson, (linebacker) from Stafford could really help this team. He would be undersized but is a rugged kid under the basket with guard skills. He would not be just a football player playing basketball.
-
The only problem with this roster is quality reserves in the front court. Ryan McCoy's absence will be a none issue. Our guard rotation is just fine. Odufawa moves in as an impact 4 in 08. We needs impact post people to play with Odufawa; which should be our #1 priority during the next recruiting season. I agree with JJ not signing anyone just to complete a roster. Starting 5 1) Ben Bell 2) Collin Dennis (3rd team All-Conference) 3) Tristan Thompson (Newcomer of the Year) 4) Quincy Williams 5) Keith Wooden Reserves 1) Josh White, (All-Freshman team) Collin Dennis 2) Adam McCoy, Collin Mangrum 3) Adam McCoy, Collin Mangrum 4) Harold Stewart, Walk-on 5) Justin Howerton, Walk-on

August 10, 2007 New Destination for Nweke TexasHoops.com Recruiting Staff Talk about it in the Message Boards In May, Kem Nweke thought he had his college future all mapped out. The huge 6-foot-10, 280-pound post from Fort Bend Marshall High School had inked to play in the Sun Belt Conference and got busy getting in shape to get ready. But as his career as a Jaguar was about to start, things changed with his situation. It didn't take long for Nweke to find a new home though and now he's heading West from the Lone Star State for school instead of East. "I'm going to New Mexico now," Nweke said. "I really didn't like the situation at South Alabama, so my parents and I decided to find something else that was better for me. So we called up some people." "I happen to know one of the coaches (Chris Walker) at New Mexico and I really trust him," he continued. "They happened to be looking for a big man, so it all happened from there." Since Nweke had signed a scholarship agreement with South Alabama outside of the spring signing dates, he was not bound to the Jaguars and was able to pursue a new opportunity. He felt most comfortable with signing with New Mexico because of his relationship with Walker, but it wasn't as if he didn't know what the Lobos were all about. "I've been there before, not on an official visit or anything, but I've been there," Nweke said. "I went to a football game and I really liked it there. There were a lot of people and they were really crazy about the team." He feels good about the situation from the basketball perspective as well. "It's an up-and-coming program and one which I think will be a good fit for me," Nweke said. "We'll get it done. I've also lost about 40 pounds now - I'm down to 280 - so I'll be ready for this season." Texas Hoops Analysis: KEM is a beast in the lane who can put his backside on his man and get wherever he wants to in the paint. He has a very wide backside, really knows how to use his body to seal the defense and call for the ball and works his way close to the bucket for easy buckets. He has good hands and feet for a player his size, can finish well around the goal and will kick it back out to shooters from the low post. He will need to drop some weight and get in better basketball shape to reach his potential.

Nweke was a sleeper that I thought would have been a nice pickup (big man) with our last 07 ship. He signed with USA late. Don't know what happened but he's back on the board. http://texashoops.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=676442 May 23, 2007 TexasHoops.com Recruiting Staff He may not have signed during the official spring signing period. But that fact alone will not prevent Kem Nweke from getting a Division I scholarship. The huge 6-foot-10, 295-pound post from Fort Bend Marshall High School was able to sign grant-in-aid papers to get his schooling paid for, and after checking out a campus over the weekend, will be studying and playing mid-major basketball in the Sun Belt Conference. "I'm going to South Alabama," Nweke said. "They've been recruiting me for a long time and I'm really close with Coach (Ronnie) Arrow. I didn't know too much about the school, so it was really the coach - I've known him since he was at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He's really good at developing big men, and there's the opportunity for me to start too." Nweke made his decision after visiting South Alabama this past weekend. "There's a great campus life there, and there's a lot of people - I didn't know that there were that many in Mobile," Nweke said. "They've got some great players coming back and they finished first in their league last year." Nweke noted how he'll have the opportunity to come in and be an impact player, but he knows there's work to be done this off-season if he is to earn that chance. "It's going to be losing weight mostly," Nweke said. "But I also want to work on my ball-handling and my mid-range game too." Texas Hoops Analysis: KEM is a beast in the lane who can put his backside on his man and get wherever he wants to in the paint. He has a very wide backside, really knows how to use his body to seal the defense and call for the ball and works his way close to the bucket for easy buckets. He has good hands and feet for a player his size, can finish well around the goal and will kick it back out to shooters from the low post.
