"Shug" Jones hands down!!! Buford did you have on a green North Texas shirt?
-
Lincoln is a magnet school similar to Skyline. Kids from across the city can attend because of the college prep courses and curriculum (sp) they offer.
-
I'm sorry, Washburn was only a freshman last year! Earlier in the summer I posted about the recruitment of LB Nash (8th grader) Well, LB has landed at Dallas Lincoln and is currently being recruited nationally by all the major programs. Most are trying to get the kid to commit his freshman year. Lincoln will be the team to beat in Texas over the next year or two as they also have landed two other highly regarded freshmen.

I expected Giles to receive a better offer than Nevada! He's a very good all around player but not great in any one area. He thought seriously about transferring to SOC this season but chose to remain a Knight. Evidently, the major schools doesn't feel that he is quick enough at the point (6-3). I've never seen UNT on his list or vice versa. UNT, however, is very interested in their best player, David Kyles. In addition to these two, Kimball should have 2 others to receive a D1 offers and a top 10 junior (Julian Washburn) next year. I understand one of the coaches will be in Central Texas tomorrow to visit a HS kid. I'm trying to get the name and school of the kid.

Bellaire's Torru to Sign with North Texas September 27, 2007 Rob Harman A couple of years ago, the odds were heavily in favor of Tamara Torru eventually joining her older sister Nia on the University of Incarnate Word women's basketball team. However, when the time came to take recruiting trips and to make her decision where to attend college, the Houston Bellaire senior went another direction. Instead of going to San Antonio, Tamara Torru will play her college basketball in Denton, chosing to commit to the University of North Texas on Monday. "When I went for my visit, I really connected with everybody," Torru said. "I had a great time. I just felt that is where I wanted to be. North Texas kinda was my top choice the whole time and that just solidified it. They showed me what I wanted to see." Not that Incarnate Word would have been a bad choice. "A big reason that I would have gone to Incarnate Word was because my sister is there," Torru said of Nia, a sophomore who was the school's top scorer and rebounder who was selected the Heartland Conference's top freshman. "She would have been there with me for two years then I wouldn't have been with her anymore. "I really did consider it," Tamara added about UIW. "I was following the program for like a year so I got to know the coach and got to know all of the players. It's a great school too. The classes were very comfortable." Tamara says that she wants to be a sports agent and that both North Texas and UIW have a strong program. The 5-11 senior guard averaged 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 3.0 rebounds last year at Bellaire. Bellaire coach Mike Kramer says that Torru will fit in well with North Texas' fast-breaking style. "I know everybody is running now," he said. "Tamara is very quick, but she plays big for us. She stands 5-11 and has a good body on her. She's strong and quick and can shoot." Kramer and Torru both believe that she will play wing in college. "They told me that I would probably make me a 2-3 or a 3-4," Torru said. "I don't know for sure, but she said she will have me facing the basket." Torru plays her summer ball with the Houston Heat. "Tamara is a super-athletic guard that can run, shoot and rebound, as well as defend the 1 through the 4," said Heat coach George Washington. "She does all the little things it takes to win." Bellaire was ranked as high as No. 10 in the country early last season but injuries and an early playoff exit against Cy-Fair made the '06-'07 season a bit of a disappointment. Torru and Kramer have much higher hopes for '07-'08. "I'm almost positive that we're going to state, because we've wanted it for so long and we're such as old team," Torru said. "We've been playing together for so long. And after last year, the way it ended, it's just going to make us want it even more." Bellaire has a handful of other players expected to play college basketball. Senior Tamara Marion committed with Stephen F. Austin a couple of weeks ago. Jasmine Hartman is being recruited by Arkansas and Louisville. Tolu Omotola, a 6-2 transfer from Sugar Land Dulles, is considering Memphis State, TCU and Liberty University according to Kramer. "Jas hurt her knee last year," Kramer said. "It wasn't torn but she sat out the whole year. She will be back on the (recruiting) radar this year." As for Hartman looking at out-of-state schools, Kramer added, "I think she really wants to stay close to home. But after this weekend I think she may have some Texas schools after her." Kramer was referring to the large shootout at the Mac Center in Lewisville. Kramer added that Bellaire has three juniors that should be top recruits next year: Zoe Rogers, Annette Davis and Taylor McGilbra. "Right now, it's crazy over here," he said.

Correct! There are several Great American Shootouts throughout the state with Denton being the largest and longest running. The tournaments are a product of Mike Kundstadt, founder of Texas Hoops.com. This year alone, the spring tournaments were held at the IAD (Carrollton) March 31-April, At Baylor April 14-15, IAD (Carrollton) May 12-13. The Denton tournament has grown so much that that also utilized the IAD in Carrollton in July. Unlike the games this Saturday, the Spring and Summer tournaments are totally AAU where the teams are comprised of kids from different teams with AAU coaches only. Fw*telegram Dodg Takes Some Blame For Loss As Play
Cooley replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
Meager is not use to playing so much for so long. He has not played this much since his junior year in HS. Even then, he certainly didn't throw the ball 60 times a game. Not a Meager fan but I'm sure his inactivity over the past 3-4 years is contributing to him to him tiring at the end of games. (thus int's) -
Miami Northwestern is currently #1 because of it's talent! (1st year coach) Cedar Hill loaded up with talent last year and was the best 5A team in the state. Historically, talent and/or a small town one high school team wins championships; it's resources (which translate into better coaching) Not so much because of a great coach. I think the majority of posters on this board are happy that Todd Dodge is the coach of the University of North Texas. Dodge, however, should be more thankful for the Southlake Carroll & UNT opportunity rather than UNT fans being thankful to have Dodge. Carroll was very successful before Dodge's arrival; while Dodge was just a former UT quarterback that became a HS head coach. (at his previous stops) In their 44-season history, the Dragons have produced an all-time record of 398-126-8. They have been particularly impressive in the last 20 seasons, winning seven state titles in eight championship game appearances. Carroll's record the last 20 seasons is 244-39-1, including a state-record 72-game regular-season winning streak from 1986 to 1993 under coach Bob Ledbetter. Ledbetter led the Dragons to statewide prominence with three 3A state titles in 1988, 1992 and 1993. Todd Dodge before Southlake Carroll: Season Team Wins Losses Notes: 1994 Cameron Yoe 3 7 1995 Cameron Yoe 5 5 1996 Carrollton Newman Smith 4 6 1997 Carrollton Newman Smith 5 5 1998 Fort Worth Fossil Ridge 2 7 1999 Fort Worth Fossil Ridge 5 5 It's all about the talent of the players and the support of the program!!!

What has Giovanni Vizza ever done at the college level to warrant so much support on here? Now, I'm not a Meager fan, but if a kid (true freshman or 5th year senior) can't beat out Dan Meager, then I'm leery.
-
I didn't make it until 5:58 left in the 1st quarter. There were about 1,500 students still outside tailgating. I'd make it mandatory to bring all asses in the game or take the party somewhere else.
-
Poor Meager is playing to the best of his abilities guys. SMU didn't pressure him as much as FAU and it made all the difference in the world. Quite frankly, he scares the hell out of me when he is under pressure. He continues to hold the ball too long and forces too many passes when the receiver is clearly covered. This was a W until the blunders. Riley Dodge, his 4.4 speed and elusiveness in the pocket is our guy. Have not seen enough of Vizza, so I must trust TD. Got to put some of the L on T. Dodge. Jamario was in a groove and we chose to put the game in Meager hands. Other thoughts: Venegas was beat on every play. What happened to Nuredeen? (sp) Glad to see Gilmore's 6-5 presence at DE (Although he didn't do anything) Has Evan Roman ever fielded a punt? His judgment on the ball location needs work. I sat behind Hal Wassen and a nice contingent of SL players & fans SMU had a lot of pee wee football league kids at their game to help attendance. Can we do this as well?

The following kids have shown an interest and/or UNT has expressed an interest. #9 David Kyles, Dallas Kimball #13 Courtney Jackson, Paris #18 Shug Jones, Dallas Pinkston #25 A. Bootle #56 Darin Thibodeaux, Dallas Kimball The Sleeper of the group is #75 Nate Gibbs of DeSoto. Nate was the top Sophomore in the Dallas area and higher ranked than #1 J'Misson Morgan. Nate had a leg injury and did not play at all his junior year. Because of the injury, his stocked has dropped to the point that I am not sure if he will garner the major interest before the injury. If he can come back to form, we may have a chance; similiar to Leonard Hopkin's situation.
-
The interception was not Riley's fault at all. Pass was thrown right to the receiver who bobbled the ball right into the db's hand. I hope Riley will add some more weight and muscle before he takes center here? DeSoto maybe the team to beat in the metroplex this year!

Watch out for the Scots of Highland Park & the Knights of Dallas Kimball; the most talented teams in the metroplex (with 4 each of the state's top 100 seniors) 1. J'Mison Morgan 6'11"-265 5 Dallas South Oak Cliff :BOBO is a dominant force in the lane at both ends as he can control traffic to the rim with his wide body. When he puts his body on the defense he can back his way down to the rim and turn around for the easy finish at the goal. He is very agile and athletic for a player his size, has good hands and runs the floor well. He has the ability to dominate the boards and he stops all penetration from getting to the rim with his shot blocking ability. He has solid post moves and continues to reshape his body. 2. J'Covan Brown 6'3"-175 2/1 Port Arthur Memorial: J'COVAN is a super talented scorer who can be a dominant player. He is incredibly tough to contain off the dribble, has excellent body control in the paint, can hang and take contact and still finish around the rim. He has deep 3 point range, is capable of getting hot and knocking down shots from anywhere out to 25 feet. He is a good passer, has very good speed in the open floor, sees the floor well and has a good feel for where his teammates are. He has excellent hands, gets lots of deflections and steals and plays with a very confident swagger. He missed the summer season with a broken foot but has the talent to come back and dominate. J'Covan Brown 3. Anthony Jones 6'10-200 4/3 Houston Yates: ANTHONY is a long and lean player who prefers to play facing up and floating out to the 3 point line. He has a smooth lefty stroke, can hit the open 3 point shot, can create his shot off the dribble and finishes well in the paint with his long wiry frame. He runs the floor very well, can finish on the break, is a good leaper and is very agile with good hands and feet. He is a very good shot blocker, has a good skill level and is a good passing big man. As his body fills out he will have the strength to really compete in the paint and be a game changing type of performer. He has verbally committed to Baylor. 4. Quincy Acy 6'8"-210 4/5 Mesquite Horn: QUINCY is a big-time athlete with explosive leaping ability and an active and energetic body. He is a tremendous finisher at the rim, attacks the goal aggressively, is quick off the floor and is always looking to finish with a strong and authoritative dunk. He is still raw with his back to the basket and facing up from 10 feet and out but has shown improvement and more comfort level in those areas. He is a tremendous rebounder who can snatch balls off the rim, is an excellent shot block and is very fast in the open court. 5. Ian Markolf 7'1"-265 5 San Antonio Churchill: IAN is a true center with a physical nature and a toughness to really compete in the paint. He really knows how hold his position on the block, gets down low and gets his body into the defense to call for the ball, has a feel for where the defense is and knows what he wants to do when he catches the ball with his back to the basket. He has a soft touch on the low block, makes good strong post moves, will kick it out to the open man out of the double team and gets wide and balanced on the boards. He runs the floor well for his size, is a nice shot blocker and has good footwork and hands. He has verbally committed to WISCONSIN. 6. Demetri Goodson 6'0"-160 1 Klein Collins: DEMETRI is a floor general who keeps everyone involved and can take over a game with his ability to create and dish for easy buckets. He sees the floor tremendously, is always looking to get someone an open look, has great court vision and is a pure point guard with great basketball savvy. He is very quick with the ball, has good speed in the open court, is very tough to contain one-on-one off the dribble and is very instinctive with the ball. He scores well in the lane for his size, knows how to draw contact and get to the line and has an assortment of fakes and crossover moves to keep the defense off balance. He can hit the open 3 point shot but doesn't look for his offense first. 7. Phillip McDonald 6'3"-180 2 Cypress Springs: PHILLIP is a big-time offensive threat with a deadly combination of athleticism and shooting. He can really elevate and stroke it from deep 3 point range, can create his own shot off the dribble and has the spring to get into the paint and finish over the defense. He has good speed, can fill the lanes in transition, finishes strong on the break and can pull-up and hit the mid-range jumper. He is a very good rebounding guard, is a good passer, sees the floor well and has the ability to really defend on the wing. He has verbally committed to New Mexico. 8. Jeremy Green 6'4"-180 2 Austin Bowie: JEREMY is a sound and solid all-around player who understands the game. He is a very good shooter with a smooth and compact 3 point stroke, elevates well on his shot and has the size to score over the defense. He knows how to work to find the open spot in the defense, runs the lanes well on the break and can spot up for the 3 or take it to the rim and finish. He is a good leaper, is a good rebounder from the wing, can handle the ball against pressure and has the length and athleticism to defend on the perimeter. He has verbally committed to STANFORD. 9. David Kyles 6'3"-170 2/1 Dallas Kimball: DAVID is a big time athlete who is just overflowing with natural talent and upside athleticism. He is very fast in the open court with the ball, can create and finish over the top of the defense and can pull up for the 15-17 footer with good elevation on his jumper. He has a nice stroke out to the 3 point line and will be a very tough stop once he starts hitting the 3 point shot more consistently. He is an excellent finisher with contact, rebounds well for his size, is an excellent leaper and makes explosive plays in the open court. He has more of a shooting guards mentality and has the potential to be a very difficult match-up if he becomes a true point guard. 10. Chris Babb 6'5"-200 3/1/2 Arlington Oak Ridge: CHRIS is a very strong built perimeter player who saw his stock really rise over the summer with solid and consistent play. He has a versatile offensive game, is a very good shooter who can stroke it from the 3 point line, can create from the wing off the dribble and has the strength to finish in the paint with contact. He is a good ball handler who can step out and play a point forward type position, sees the floor well and is a good passer. He has the size and strength to compete on the boards, has a good understanding of the game and is a solid defender on the wing. 11. Corbin Ray 6'8"-215 4 Katy Taylor: CORBIN is a very cerebral player who really understands the game at the offensive end of the floor. He has a complete offensive game with solid low post moves, a nice touch on the mid-range jumper and a sweet stroke from behind the 3 point line. He is a savvy player, knows how to work to the open spot, is a very good passer and is very effective setting high screens and popping out to the 3 point line. He works hard on the boards, challenges shots in the paint and uses his body well to compete. He lacks overall athletic ability but makes up for it with good decisions and hard work. He has verbally committed to TEXAS TECH. 12. Dwight Milller 6'8"-220 4/5 Houston St. Pius: DWIGHT is a strong paint player who is just starting to emerge as a dominant player in the paint. He is an aggressive rebounder, works hard for position on the low block, contests shots well and will battle on the defensive end. He can operate with his back to the basket, has a nice touch from 12-15 feet and can step out and hit the open 3 point shot. Why I Feel Good About The Season From Here Forward
Cooley replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
My observation after week #3 is that UNT could easily lose out the rest of the way. We played our best game of the year against SMU. Middle Tennessee, Troy, FAU & Arkansas State are much better! I can't say that we are better than Northeast or Southwestern Louisiana. I will be satisfied for this staff to just get accustomed to college ball again; while implementing their system. Moreover, recruiting better players to compete with the Troy's of the world. Maybe in the old Sunbelt, it may have been possible to convert a run oriented offense into a passing offense (with success) in 1 year. Boy, doesn't our 4 straight conference titles look tainted now? -
The better team won. Miami committed just as many turnovers and the refs didn't help. Great crowd and atmosphere for a HS game. Excellent turnout by the fans of Northwestern.

OK boys and girls, let's try this again. (This time the RB position) I'm trying to list the names of former (and current) players of NT. Keep in mind, the position listed is what they were recruiting to NT to play. Kids will always be moved around. Some guys never made it to the practice field. I obviously can't remember (or research) all the names and/or the exact year in which they signed; so your input is vital. Why this exercise? Just for the hell of it! Please jump in with your additions, comments and corrections. Let's hope distant relatives of Roderick Flemings never attempt genealogy efforts on the whereabouts of Rod or his side of the tree. Word is that Roderick has change his mind again! After departing the University of North Texas, (after OSU) Rod enrolled at TVCC (Trinity Valley Community College) to take care of some academic concerns. It was believed that he would re-enroll in a 4 year university after the spring semester. Rod later decided to take his talents to McClennon Community College in Waco, where he would play this fall. Prior to school starting (or soon thereafter) Rod has now moved on to Weatherford JC. I had always held out hope that Rod would find his way back to UNT. At this posting, I just hope that Rod will forget about basketball and work on maturing as a person. If I am wrong on this latest move, I stand to be corrected! Go Mean Green
