  1. Unless a walk on was granted a scholarship, I’m thinking 4 more after the addition of the 3.
  2. Definitely an up tempo guy. The question is what type of offense will Hodge employ? He doesn’t appear to be to interested in passing the ball around. Less than 2 apg could be problematic for a 6-0 point guard. I actually liked what little I saw of Christian Moore; the infrequent time he played. Like what I see and 3 years of eligibility. Don’t see his game translated over in a slow down offense.
  3. Doesn’t make much sense when your new head coach is convinced that we are only a G5 program; with no aspirations to elevate the basketball program. Why would he encourage his borderline P5 player to move on and out? No the job is not finished and yes, Tylor could have helped the program more. Does he ever go after legit P5 players in the portal? Or, does he have the mindset that we are just North Texas. Does this have something to do with Reese, Woolridge, Abou, Hamlet, Mo Gipson, and others, moving on? We did just beat Purdue, Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. Let Perry make the decision to move on on his own. Sell him on the opportunity to help do greater things. In every interview where I’ve heard Ross speak he characterizes us as a G5 school. Would we have been better off with a national search to secure a P5 coach/assistant coach coming in to build a P5 type program? I get the lack of NIL money and maybe this was 99% the issue. Im just venting. This was probably the best fit for Perry in his last year of college basketball. He was becoming a legend off the court in Denton and we encouraged him to walk. I’m sure McCasland could have signed him if he felt he could help Texas Tech. Missed opportunity.
  4. Correct. Sorry for the confusion
  5. The Head Coach/former Associate Head Coach (Ross Hodge) has been on the job for the past 5-6 years. The Director of Scouting has been in the role for 2 years. The new women's coach was hired about the same time and has staff in place and 3 signed recruits. Albeit bringing everyone but the cheerleaders with him.
  6. SOC does not have an indoor practice facility. (nor any other school in DISD) That practice was not at SOC and was not their team. Probably some sort of camp. I am hopeful that they will include IPFs in a bond package; to compete with suburban schools. Heard a discussion about 2 years ago that DISD would desire 4 IPFs throughout the city to support over 20 schools. A 2025 kid that is up to 30 offers, including the high majors. His recruitment is based more on hype than actual production (imho)
  7. That’s good but I don’t think that’s a “big time” commit. Not bashing the signing
  8. Hopefully her best basketball is ahead of her and she will contribute. Don’t see this as a big time commit. Welcome to the family.
  9. Didn’t Roberts leave as well?
  10. Lance Dunbar
  11. Congratulations
  12. Felt like it was 40 degrees in that stadium today. Who starts at QB depends on the offensive line play. Rodgers is my guy due to much better mobility. Both should see plenty action so the discussion about a starter is moot. I went in the IPF for the first time. That field is huge. Many of the recruits/visitors sure looked awfully small. Looked more like basketball recruits.
  13. Not clock related but I’d like to see the runner get up and run if they were not touched.
  14. Was not aware that Kyron Chambers had entered the transfer portal. UNT should throw some assets at him also. I thought he was the heart of the SOC defense at corner in 2021.
  15. I often wonder why national media still refer to us as North Texas State some 35 years after the name change. Was it a mistake to change it to UNT from an athletics standpoint? North Texas State has seemed to get more mileage than UNT.
  16. Does the university own those new apartments across from NY Subway that now stretches to I-35? If not, what was the purpose of the eminent domain threats. What are the plans for the old Sac n save building that is used for something by the University. The new apartments look nice but that building is an eyesore and not a grand entry to the school. Sorry, I got off topic for a second. Just curious on my drives to and back from Winstar.
  17. HS Coach (Danny Henderson) is at Richland. Sat with his dad at a game in Lewisville. Guy kept ripping Marcus Smart on his missed free throws.
  18. With a large sample size, this list provides enough evidence why no one should ever consider rankings again in their lifetime.
  19. Take it easy on Gunnells. It was just a practice scrimmage.
  20. Chris Davis is the head coach at Red Oak. I believe he may have been coach of the year. Well connected to the AAU scene and daughter is a member of the MeanGreen.
  21. It really doesn’t bother me one way or another that he is moving on. However, if I were pop Perry, I would remind him of how this staff took a chance on when he had limited offers. He’s certainly a consideration for UNT Hall of Fame after only 2 years. (So is Jeremy Combs) It’s been mentioned here by SUMG that he’s as beloved athlete to come through here. I wouldn’t be too short sighted by a larger 1 year NIL payday. He’s stated numerous times that he wants to be a HS coach. Look at all the goodwill that he has established in the North Texas community. I don’t see serious professional basketball opportunities after his eligibility is up. Why not finish at UNT? Serve as a GA on Hodges’ staff for a year or 2. He would then have tremendous support from the DFW community in the corporate world. UNT has been the perfect fit for his talents. Concerned that he will not be a cornerstone at an SEC or Big 12 school, despite a larger NIL. Don’t doubt his drive and determination to beat the odds as a short non athletic shooting guard.
  22. Great question! Actually, I don’t have a name and support Hodge 100% now that he is the coach. What I preferred was to open the process up to all qualified applicants around the country. If after completing your due diligence and Ross Hodge came out on top, then he’s your guy. By hiring a guy due to convenience, we may have missed on someone better than what we had. I just hate good ole boy hires in all walks of life. The profile of the school was at its all time highest. I think we just owed it to all involved to be able to say that after an extensive search, Ross Hodge topped the list. Whereas, he will forever be the coach that internally deserved the promotion.
  23. Mason Fine has a better chance of playing in the NFL than Perry playing in the NBA. Why the smoke screen? Enjoy your last year in Lubbock. Thanks for the memories. Guys there are a ton of guys in the portal looking for more money and/or the right situation. I thought one of the benefits of hiring Ross Hodge was the possibility of him retaining this roster. With Ousmane and now Perry hitting the portal after his announced hire, he’s going to have to really earn his pay. Also, too bad the staff looked short term in recruiting last year with the signing of a few 1 year rental guys. LSU women won a national championship in Kim Mulkey’s second year with 9 portal girls. It can happen. In hind sight, would it have been better to bring in a coach that could have brought in 2-3 of their own players as part of a package deal? I’m sure it’s a resounding no. In Hodge we trust.
  24. Why him? So you end the season on National TV, highest profile for the school ever and nowhere in the AD’s statement did I read that there will be a national search for a replacement. Seems like we are just settling. What makes anyone feel that he will be successful? If other schools felt that he is the next hotshot coach, why did they not offer. Quite frankly, I don’t won’t to see the exact same offense we saw the majority of the year. (Which lead to the lowest points allowed) We had a scrappy bunch of kids that played hard and bought in. McCasland turned out amazing results you can’t argue. He said that he was going to win and he did. The vast majority of fans, however, stayed home. I imagine in part, because of the style of ball. Don’t rip me, find out why. So, we don’t feel, at this point in time, that there’s not better other prospects? Recruiting has been a mixed bag. Solid hits and too many misses. Again, they accomplished their goal so it’s hard to argue. I just think that we have finally reached a point where we can ascend the heights of an FAU and others. (Not status quo) I guess I don’t know enough about this pending hire. SMU hired Tim Jankovich when Larry Brown stepped down. Jank was responsible for most of the recruits they brought in. SMU faltered. Tony Benford was a hot shoot assistant, known for recruiting. He’s still a top notch assistant. Please help educate me on why this will be a great hire to take us much higher? I’ll happily get on board. Just not excited right now. Thanks for asking.
