  1. Top Ranked Recruit: Jullius Bush, Tyler John Tyler HS (Brother of Antoine Bush) http://www.tylerpaper.com/article/20090916...RTS05/909160303 http://tamu.scout.com/3/WebsiderRecruitingBoard2011.html
  2. http://bgdnwkublog.wordpress.com/ Memphis has now received commitments from 3 other top guards as well. Not into ratings but one is listed as a 5-Star; to help UNT's chances.
  3. "Official"
  4. The best player (Nationally Ranked) on the best HS team in Texas (Houston Yates). Memphis wants this kid bad!!! Good Luck Johnny!
  5. Jude Akpunku #47 Cedar Hill HS 6-2, 220 DE Junior Wm Cole also played basketball until his sr year. Played hoops with some potential CH transfers
  6. OMG! William Cole is the highest ranked recruit at NT since Milton Collins in 1978! If he recovers from his injury, he would be the best Wildcat QB in America! Many felt that Cole was the clear class 5A POY instead of Riley Dodge. This is huge for this program!!
  7. http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/sports/m-bask...ers_will00.html Explosive and powerful kid that would move right into JJ's guard rotation. Lobbied for this kid throughout his senior year at Lewisville High. A Katrina move in. This list does not include most Texas kids who are looking for new homes.
  8. Maybe she can help recruit her McDonald's All-American sister (Destini) away from LSU. Heading to Baton Rouge in about 3 weeks! She was a great player at Waxahachie and will be a nice addition. The FW Dunbar girls would agree as well. She had a monster game in the state semi-finals to keep Dunbar from repeating as state champs in 05-06. Destini transfered to Kennedale.
  9. Not to knock Chris Davis, but I don't see him beating out any rotation player on the 75-76 team. He would have played significant minutes, but we would not be talking Hall of Fame inductions over Fred Mitchell, Melvin Davis, Kenneth William, Terry Bailey, Carl Jones and others. I feel Waymon Lister was a better player coming off the bench followed by Charles McMillan the next year. Jon Manning and Delonte Taylor later on The only argument against Weasel Johnson being in the Hall is that he only played 2 years after transferring from McLennan CC. He was the most significant addition to the prior year squad that went 6-20 (getting Gene Robbins fired) Blakely brought in a more up tempo offense to suit the talent he had along with newly hired SOC assistant coach James Gales, Billy Tubbs and Tommy Moffit. They put the ball in Weasel's hand and told him run this machine. He performed his role as well as anyone in the country and led this team to a school record 22-4. We need to recruit more Chris Davis types to UNT because many just go off to the bigger named offer that comes alone. Young people, come to UNT and you may have an excellent shot to set school records and possibly get Hall of Fame votes. It's so unfortunate, but coaches and family fill these kids heads about TV exposure, large crowds and draft posssibilities. There will be a huge list of possibilities for UNT during the signing period as many have surfaced back at at a juco from their prior big school. NT remains is in a dog race for Kenny Perry out of a private catholic school in Houston. Lastly, Walter Chatman deserves the UNT Hall before any Sun Belt Championship players. (Who’s on these committees by the way?) Gone back into retirement!
  10. Though a huge field, the shootout on campus is not fan friendly at all! I enjoyed games at Denton High & Ryan. Matt Doherty went out of his way to speak to me as I got out of my car. Not an SMU fan, but the guy is really nice.
  11. #4 Class of 2010 6-9 Perry Jones (formerly of Woodrow Wilson) has also enrolled at Duncanville High!
  12. It's been fun, but Cooley (Dallas SOC) has retired from further postings. cooleyntsu@aol.com

  14. Vincent McNeil Jr (Dallas Roosevelt) also. Not as good as Dennis but I'd like to have him for football and basketball.
  15. Since Avery has become good buds with JJ, hopefully he can help direct William Weathers (PG @ Lewisville) to UNT. Weathers is a Katrina evacuee

  17. January 13, 2008 R.V. Baugus Some basketball teams are still waiting to start district play, but with more than two months worth of games having already been played (save for those smaller classification teams whose schools had extended football playoff runs and thus got a late start on the hardwood), now is a good time for a mid-season report card on the boy's side about what has happened and what might still yet take place as the race to Austin and the state tournament now begins in earnest. Who Will Stop Duncanville? At 23-1, Coach Phil McNeely and his defending Class 5A state champion Duncanville Panthers are on course to return to Austin. The Panthers had a severe test on Friday night at home before topping District 8-5A rival DeSoto by three points in overtime. These south Dallas County foes will meet again at DeSoto before the playoffs, and if the show put on remotely resembles the one already played out, don't be surprised if Chris Dyer's Eagles prevail in another nail-biter. The one loss for Duncanville, by the way, came at the hands of national power Oak Hill Academy. Is This Football Or Basketball? Dallas Highland Park and Austin Lake Travis took home football state championships this past year in Class 4A, and the schools are now lighting it up on the court. The Scots from Highland Park stand at 19-4 and hold down the No. 6 ranking in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches/Tex Preps Basketball magazine state rankings, while the less heralded Cavaliers entered the rankings for the first time last week at No. 16 and are a gaudy 21-3 on the season. What Do Amarillo Palo Duro And Thorndale Have In Common? Other than both of these schools being basketball juggernauts in Class 4A and Class 1A-I respectively, Palo Duro and Thorndale are the state's final two unbeaten outfits. The Dons of Palo Duro are the No. 2 team in the state at 19-0, while Jeff Lieberman's defending state champions from Thorndale are 20-0 and No. 6 despite losing a wealth of seniors off of last year's squad. Under The Radar? Dallas South Oak Cliff is never a team that could be called an under-the-radar unit, especially since the Golden Bears have won three consecutive state crowns in Class 4A. But this year's team is 10-8 and comes off a District 14-4A loss to rival Dallas Kimball, a program that started slow this year but has picked up steam. SOC still has too much talent to stay down and will likely battle Kimball and Dallas Pinkston for the playoff slots.
  18. Had a chance to catch UNT signee Ben Knox tonight in Arlington. (Against Ft Worth Christian) First of all, their games are not at Arlington Prep Academy but at Workman Middle School; about 5 miles away. Anyway, I was able to make it over there in time for player introductions. Ben is legitimately 6-10 with a slim frame. I was initially impressed when I saw him walking and chewing gum at the same time. Ben had a nice 1st quarter with 8 points and 3 rebounds. His coach took him out with 1:20 remaining in the first and didn’t return until the 2nd half. Ben only had 1 foul. Ft Worth Christian’s tallest man appeared to be about 6-2, maybe 6-3. Ben finished the night (unofficially) with 12 points, 8 rebounds, 9 blocks and 1 steal. Now before anyone get too excited about the 9 blocks, I felt that the much smaller FW players didn’t respect Ben enough by continueing to drive right into his outstretched arms. Ben was later benched with 3:00 remaining in the 3rd after fumbling away an ally up pass from PG Nick Russell out of bounds. He did return in the 4th to pad his numbers. In Summary As we expected, Ben is a project! He has some skills but is too weak to compete at the D1 level; anytime soon. Often times tonight he couldn’t establish himself down low because the smaller Ft Worth players would push him out from under the basket. He will easily be our 13th man at the end of the bench. (Despite the huge hole we will have in the middle next year. I didn’t see enough skills for him to be anything but a 5. It would be in everyone’s best interest for him to red-shirt if at all possible. Whether or not Ben is able to contribute will depend on his ability to work extremely hard, gain weight (30 pounds) and strength. Otherwise, this will be a wasted scholarship. Guys, I wish I could sugar coat my opinion but I can’t. Honestly, I don’t think the kid would start for half of the high schools I have seen so far this year. (Albeit 5A & 4A publics). I saw Justin Howerton twice in HS. I didn’t feel that he would contribute until at least his junior year. Howerton was more developed. JJ must be targeting Nick Russell. (Who should be playing at Duncanville instead of against the Ft Worth Christians of the world) Hopefully I will be wrong. Besides, Michael Jordan was once cut from his HS team.
  19. Absolutely not!!! Doesn't even start. He's only a junior though
  20. I agree!
