Coach O was Deion's right hand man while on his staff at Prime Prep Academy. Love seeing folks enjoy what they are doing and enjoying life.

Are they redshirting Keith Smith? I think he could provide more pressure than what I saw Saturday

These overall Benford comparisons continue to be a pathetic excuse for an overall pathetic football lprogram. We continue to lose good players to the transfer portal only to flip them for non D1 players. Doesn’t help that a good old boy network is involved in some of these hiring decisions. Let Tony Benford enjoy his life; 5+ years since he left. He certainly didn’t hire himself. While other coaches are flipping their rosters overnight to improve the product, we keep bitching about Tony Benford. For the past 5-10 years we rave annually about the quality of the football recruits/classes (All based on a flawed star system) Just because they may pick up another P5 or G5 offer doesn’t mean they can play.

Article also mentioned Chris McDermott as a UNT target. If so, he would be a major AAC caliber talent. Very impressive State Championship tournament last year; where his Houston Washington team fell short to Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy in 4A.

GMG report: North Texas adds Kilgore Forward Terrance Dixon
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I’m ok with this signing; considering he is still developing. Looks to have 3 years of eligibility and has already developed physically since high school/Prep. Very athletic with skills. Great potential without the pressure to produce immediately. Ahead of Morgan off the bench. Legit 6-8 We obviously had a number of kids to tell us no. Appears to be a good low risk high reward pickup. His best basketball is clearly ahead of him.- 12 replies

My Prediction For Starting QB. (It Has Changed)
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like another year of poor quarterbacking. It always end up as musical chairs throughout a season when there wasn't a clear cut #1 so deep in the summer.- 89 replies

TCU transfer Rondel Walker commits to North Texas
Cooley replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I wasn't speaking about any particular player but to the number of competent guards on the roster in general. It could become problematic when starters are out played by reserves in certain games. Who do you insert into the starting lineup the next game? Yes, good problem to have for the coach but again, kids feel that they should start and/or play more minutes. Just wanted to see an even distribution of scholarships for all positions/roles. -
TCU transfer Rondel Walker commits to North Texas
Cooley replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
The only concern I have is how do you find quality minutes for all the guards? There doesn't appear to be an appreciable difference in ability. Many seem to be interchangeable. No throw in the walk on and Christian Moore. Transfers don't sign on to sit on the bench. To keep everybody happy we'll certainly have to increase the pace from 64.5 ppg. Will be interesting for sure. Now if we can just add a Nickola Jokic with the last spot, I'll shut the hell up. -

Don’t understand the Deion Sanders hate. Hell, I suggested we hire him before he went to Jackson State. Of course it’s about Deion Sanders. He will not run away from those thoughts. He is as genuine as they come. Who cares as long as he produces? Every other coach in America uses NIL to their advantage; if they can. Watch his interviews and he consistently advocates against money to kids that has not done anything.

The 2023/24 UNT Basketball Transfer/Recruiting Tracker
Cooley replied to Green Otaku's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"Good scorer in high school" and good shooter in a D1 college program are 2 different things. Yes, I often see improvement in shooting but mainly in the NBA; over the course of a player's professional career. NBA basketball is their full time job where they receive a substantial bag to perfect their craft with the best coaches and training there is to offer. Many play in the league well over 10 years. Phil Forte's HS and college teammate, Marcus Smart, is a good example. Shooting was Smart's weakness when he came into the league. The question I posed was how long should it take a 4-5 year college player when they have already been in the program 2 years? I saw Stone play 3 full games in high schools on NFHS. He did not appear to be a lights out shooter that we want him to be. Their top player, Bijan Cortes, was a 4-Star kid that signed with OU. (just entered the portal). Stone was more of a facilitator at a forward position garnering many layups in the process (and occasional outside shots). A college coach today can't afford to wait on a kid to find and/or improve his shot with competition as fierce as it is. Wonder why the transfer portal is so ridiculously high every year? These kids were that dude or a co-dude in high school. Lack of confidence and/or skills at the next level should have a certain shelf life. This team is coming off an NCAA tournament win, NIT championship and moving to an overall better basketball conference. The question remain, how long should a college program wait on a kid? -

How much longer will it take to find his shot? You can either shoot or you can't. From what I've seen, he can't shoot. STATS 2022-23 2021-22 GP MIN FG% 3P% FT% REB AST BLK STL PF TO PTS 38 15.5 39.4 24.6 72.7 2.2 0.8 0.0 0.3 1.2 0.5 2.5 13 4.8 20.0 9.1 33.3 1.5 0.3 0.0 0.1 0.4 0.0 0.6 -
My sister’s grandson signed with the Minnesota Vikings; their top free agent target. Had over 30 college offers before UNT offered late. Exciting times for Aune and many other families going through the process.

Played with Aaron Scott in HS. Mom was a big time UNT commit at 6-5. Aunt also played at UNT (Andrea & Nicole) Grandfather was Lucious Jackson that starred in the NBA with Wilt Chamberlain. Jackson just passed last October. -
I think a great interview would be with Coach O and/or Chris Gilbert for football recruiting. Maybe the podcast(s) can include specific questions received from the fans; in advance. Often times, I tune in for the duration of a podcast only to be disappointed that certain questions/topics were never discussed. The most informative I remember was with Darryl Terrell. Guy talked specifics throughout the podcast. As others have already mentioned, all podcast are welcomed.

I can understand the City of Arlington desiring more national attention but the naming of the team “Arlington Renegades” seems to limit regional interest, exposure and coverage. It just seems more acceptable to name the team Dallas, Fort Worth, DFW or even North Texas. Otherwise, why does anyone in Irving, Plano or Frisco care? Anyway, congratulations to the franchise.
