  2. 2nd loss to Kimball that SOC just gave away in the last 30 seconds. Jordan Williams hits a 10 ft jumper with about 10 seconds remaining.
  3. Lakeview vs Kimball headline 7 Warmup games this Saturday @ Ellis Davis Fieldhouse. Lakeview Centennial Toderick Gotcher (Texas Tech) Chris Jones (UNT) Kimball Jalen Jones (SMU) Jordan Williams (UNT) Jarion Henry (tbd) Austin Franklin (New Mexico) The State's #1 2A, 3A, 4A & 5A teams will all be participating. I may be off but I think the unofficial matchups are: Dallas Kimball vs Lakeview Centennial 8:00 PM Dallas Lincoln vs Lubbock Estacado 6:30 PM DeSoto vs 5:00 PM Dallas Woodrow Wilson vs Melissa 11:00 AM Richardson Berkner vs Kennedale 3:30 PM Dallas South Oak Cliff vs Argyle 12:30 PM Dallas Madison vs Burkburnett 2:00 PM http://tabchoops.org/finalB.html
  4. I prefer to stay focused on the Big Picture and that's building the program. If anything is overrated, it's having a bunch of seniors on a ball club. Is it possible that we overachieved in years past or guys peaked? Becoming the target and/or not slipping up on anyone. Maybe hitting a wall due to a lack of depth while playing heavy minutes. I really don't care how many games this team wins in any given year or whether or not we win the conference. (Been there, done that) My concern is if the program is getting better. Unlike football, the Sunbelt champs will always get a 14, 15 or 16th seed. This will ensure we play a top 20 team (out of over 300) The odds, at this time, are not great of beating a top 20 team. In football, the Sunbelt champ will play a 3rd or 4th place team from another mid-major conference or slightly above. The chances of a bowl victory are much better in football for the Sunbelt champs (playing a top 60 team) For us to continue to get better each year, we need better players. TT maybe the only guy on this team that would start for a Top 30 - 40 team. So why should we expect them to beat one of these teams in the NCAA tournament? On paper, does it look like we are bringing in better talent? I say yes. We are a perimeter team without a threat down low. This must be addressed! Geore Odufawa has played out of position, out of necessity, the whole season. One of our better players is a 5-9 shooting guard playing point guard. As Dan MacCarney would say, "Are You Kidding Me"? Should we look for a 5-9 guard to carry us each game? In my opinion, we have a few more guys that should not even be playing in the Sunbelt. We are a .500 team because we can easily lose to any team just like we can beat any team. Is help on the way? I think so. Within the past 2-3 years, JJ has done a much better job in getting the attention of top recruits. Most have not signed but we appear to be in the game. The program has taken longer than I would have liked but I see an upgrade in who we go after. Conversely, we've signed a few that I did not understand. I know there are all types of fans in each program. I personally like to see recruits play (football and basketball) while they are still in high school. I also try to attend as many of our games as possible. Additionally, our opponents. As such, I don't have to rely on what others have to say, what I read or what some recruiting service said. I can not be disapointed in this team or believe they are overrated or underrated. This team has not quit. I have never felt that we needed to tear up JJ contract for a better one or worried that he may leave. Overall, I like the direction of the program; whether we win 24, 22, 20 or 18. Don't understand why the expectations are so much higher for the basketball team than football. When we recruit a team of highly sought players and/or obtain a top 20 ranking, my expectations for the team will increase.
  5. For the past 10 years or so, the DISD (host) & the Dallas Morning News (sponsor) put on these types of warm-up games; prior to the playoffs. They generally involve the district champs of the Top ranked 5A schools playing the top ranked 4A schools. The 5 or 6 games features a DISD school playing the top non-DISD school in the area. These teams will not see each other in the playoffs. There's so much pressure to participate that what may make sense takes a back seat to the ridicule they may incur. I can't remember a top area non-DISD school not participating. You guys may remember the warm-up games a few years ago in front of 17,000 at Reunion Arena. (Chris Bosh, Deron Williams and others) About 3-4 years ago, Brandon Jennings' Oak Hill Academy came down and Kevin Durant's Hyattville, MD team the year before. The games have moved to Ellis Davis Fieldhouse and are worth the time and money. In my opinion, Lakeview actually needs to finally play someone before the playoffs. We should know for sure in the next few days what the matchups will look like. (pending district outcomes) I would propose matchups like the following: Lakeview Centennial or FM Marcus vs. Dallas Lincoln or Dallas Kimball (#1 and #2 in the state's 5A division vs. #1 and #2 in the state's 4A division) FM Marcus or Lakeview vs. Dallas Kimball or Dallas Lincoln Argyle vs. Dallas Woodrow Wilson (3A vs. 4A) Burkburnett vs. Dallas Madison (4A vs. 3A)
  6. For whatever its worth, tonight was senior night for most DISD teams. During halftime of Kimball's game against Pinkston, the person introducing the players and their parents mentioned that Jarion was considering Georgetown, Marquette, Oregon and USC. (same schools listed on Rivals) Though Jarion grew up in the LA area, many older hoop fans may remember his dad, Skeeter Henry. Skeeter was a good player at South Grand Prairie but a better player @ OU for BIlly Tubbs. I'd put the Henry talk/speculation to bed!
  7. Congratulations to Dallas Lincoln's LB Nash. Lot of work to do at Stillwater but the kid was a promising prospect in middle school. Jordan Williams has not dissapointed either.

  10. Over the past few years, UT extends and accepts verbals for their next class; 2-3 weeks after National Signing Day in February. All others, heretofore, appear to sit back and wait until they have the pick of the litter. Recruiting will soon be over for their 2012 class and they will move on the 2013 class. Did this practice finally backfire on them with the results of this past year? I can think of many kids that did not develop until their senior year and/or did not even start as a junior. Do you guys think that Gaines and McCarney will try to get more aggressive early on or just wait for the best leftovers? Lastly, what is the latest on the early signing period for HS football players? BTW, I'm not giving up on the 2011 class! Thanks

  13. Kimball Jalen Jones - 27 Jordan Williams - 24 Carter Phillip Miller - 36
  14. Many feel that Henry has to become eligible first. Henry would be great as I think JJ, and fans, need to continue to recruit and/or plan as though Mitchell will not be with the team. (No one is shocked or disappointed) If he is, GREAT! I beg JJ to not try to build a team around him. He would be icing. Another thought, once eligible, he will be here as long as he remains eligible. Great talent with NBA skills but has too much work on his game to even think NBA. Guys make bad decisions every year and are heartbroken with where they are selected, if at all. Mitchell would represent a nice NBA prospect for us but just another draft eligible player on one of the elite teams. Now, to contradict what I just stated, I would welcome Henry. He is, however, the exact same player (or his game) as Mitchell. Mitchell is just better. Hopefully, the true jewel of this class has not been identified yet. (A big mean ass Shawnson Johnson type down low) Additionally, a great outside shooter. (Ala, Phil Forte, junior at FM Marcus)
  15. Centennial in a laugher @ Naaman Forest HS! Actually, Naaman Forest went on a 17-0 run to start the 3rd quarter but could not get closer than 12 points of Centennial. Had an opportunity to see 6-10 junior center Prince Ebeh of Forest for the 2nd time. Being recruited by all the big guys in the 2012 class. I'm happy with our 6-10 Forrest. Quiet night for Chris Jones. Didn't look to score at all tonight but to possibly pad his area leading assist average of 7.1. Only had 3 with 2 minutes remaining (had to beat the traffic) Centennial was hitting all night but could not convert Chris' passes into assists. Unofficially, I had him with 8 points, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 fouls and 1 1/2 turnovers. Had the play of the game when he stole the ball, drove to his bucket (with a trailing defender; determined to block his layup) and posterized the kid with a monster dunk & one. In my view, solidified the starting point position next year. (pending eligibility) Outstanding night for Tech recruit Toddrick Gotcher. If Centennial does not go far in the playoffs it will be because of a very weak district schedule. Coach really believes in leaving his stars in the game despite most games being routs. Jones did have to leave the game early in the 3rd with a knee injury. Up by 22, coach put him back in the game with a noticeable limp. Was not nearly effective after that.
  16. Ricardson's Torrance Carr is tied with Trey Norris at 17.1 per game. Scored 26 Wednesday Night
  17. Hunt is #5 & Thomas #99 http://www.youtube.com/user/Katy72343?feature=mhum#p/u/15/l71kRFuAwTc http://www.youtube.com/user/Katy72343?feature=mhum#p/u/9/8BaOq49nvhw http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/DallasFW/high-school/cedar--hill--cedar--hill--texas--hs/Week-10:-Cedar-Hill-vs-Duncanville http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/DallasFW/high-school/duncanville--duncanville--texas--hs/Duncanville-wins-on-hail-mary
  18. Yea, that's Jalen Jones (21)
  19. Was at that game. Jordan is #23. Before knocking down that 3, he also went in for the coast to coast dunk. SOC should have won! Best game of the year for them. Archived short videos of Lakeview and Kimball: http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/DallasFW/high-school/garland--south--garland--texas--hs/Lakeview-Centennial-rolls-over-South-Garland http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/DallasFW/high-school/dallas--kimball--texas--hs/Kimball-and-Lincoln-play-in-a-classic-of-the-DISD-finals
  20. Most impressive video of them all. Sign him!
  21. Yes but getting better
  22. Not much difference in ability. Jones is just a bigger and quicker point guard. More suited for the college game. I'm afraid that Norris may struggle on defense against bigger college guards. They are, however, more like 1A & 1B. I see both playing quite a bit and possible together at times. Jones is a more physical point guard where as Norris relies more on finesse. Both are nicely built for their size. I'd start Jones but wouldn't hesitate to bring Norris in. Both are great floor leaders and passers.
  23. Very good game @ SGP tonight. Cedar Hill pulls it out at the end by 3. Trey Norris finished the night with 24 points (unofficial). Probably his best game of the season as he was on fire beyond the 3 point line. Excellent floor game as well. Norris left the game with a thumb injury at a critical time in the 4th. Cedar Hill's full court pressure finally got to the guards with Norris out. Norris was taped and came back in with about 2-3 minutes but after CH had erased a 7 point SGP lead. With Norris hitting from the outside and penetrating all evening, CH ended the game with 3 guys applying pressure on Norris trying to keep the ball out of his hands. 6-8 Jr Chris Washburn continues to impress down in the paint on the defensive end. Held KState's Thomas Gipson in check. Father Chris Sr was on hand coaching from the stands.
  24. Tech would clearly be his first choice. But then again, we don't know who the coach will be! The clock has to be ticking on Knight.
