  1. Kinda helps explain why we haven't signed a center this spring!
  2. There are 2 available transfers that I would love to have, however, they would have to sit out 2011-2012. Keep in mind those guys that just graduated; with another year of eligibility to play at a different university. (Dez Willingham from SMU to UNT and Mangrum from UNT to SMU. Don't have any names other than possibly Ian Markoff of Wisconsin. Decided to transfer back to Texas last year but elected to just quit the team and remain as a student. I have no evidence to support such a scenario involving him. Just pointing out another option; for 11-12. Best of luck to Ben Knox http://www.uwbadgers.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/markolf_ian00.html
  3. Looks like his HS teammate won out over his OSU teammate. Damn!
  4. NT03 gave us the good news (in my opinon) 2 days ago. Still alot of talent out there that I'm excited about. Something tells me that one of them have agreed to a contract in principle.
  5. Don't shoot the messenger! http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/213724/Three_Kentucky_Signees_Turn_Down_USA_Basketball_Invite
  6. I saw that this guy and higher rated guard Stargell Love were granted their released last week. I've watched more Baylor games than any other program, not called Mean Green, over the past 3 years. I've never seen this guy on the court. Didn't even think it was worth anyone's time to mention it here.
  7. Staying put! Said he committed to the school, not the coach http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/high-schools/headlines/20110512-arlington-grace-prep_s-jamal-branch-flower-mound_s-jordan-green-reaffirm-commitments-to-texas-am-basketball.ece
  8. Wonder if 6-4 SG recruit Jordan Green would ask to be released from A&M. Committed very early to A&M but had second thoughts when Jordan Williams committed to the Mean Green. According to Green, he was seriously going to follow Williams to UNT but dad said no. Kinda quiet around here so we have to have some fun speculating.

  11. Hopefully our final scholarshIp will go to Jarred Shaw. An available Big Man at our greatest need. Was considering UNT prior to his senior year. Thanks in advance Roger! http://blog.newsok.c...ase-no-stunner/ Click here to view the article

  13. 1. Jarred Shaw, 6-11 C OSU, Dallas Carter Still at OSU but has not indicated that he will return. OSU signed another 6-11 Juco from Chattanooga St. last week. Did not get much PT this past year and may not next year. Skilled big man that is too thin going up against the Big 12 Bigs. Would be a very good Sunbelt post. (Hopefully, Roger Franklin is recruiting) 2. Shawn Glover, 6-6 SF. Utah, Cedar Hill HS As talented as Jordan Williams. Committed too early to Utah. 2nd team All-Sunbelt type player 3. Thomas Gipson, 6-7 240 (Signed with KState) Cedar Hill HS (former teammate with Glover) KState will oversign with the addition of two transfers this week. Gipson, in my opinion, will be looking to transfer over the next 2 years. Oversigned with KState. Would be a 6-7 Keith Wooden at UNT. Too short for the Big 12 as a true center 4. KC Ross-Miller, 5-11 Dallas God's Academy From a talent standpoint, would immediately move into the starting pg position. Poor advice from Dad/Coach. 5. Hold on to the scholarship
  14. Some of us old timers will argue that a man named John Savage should be on that list. John was from Detroit, Texas and played at North Texas from 1960-61 through 1963-64. In those days Freshmen were not eligible for varsity competition so he only got three years to compile his statistics. At that time the old Missouri Valley Conference was as good as any in the country. Cincinatti won two national championships and lost a third one in overtime during that period. John was a great player on some bad teams. One year he was selected as All Missouri Valley from a team that won only two games all season. John was selected as All - MVC for all three of the years that he played. It is hard to compare eras but he would have been outstanding in any era. I was sure glad that I got to see him play. 15. As a true freshman, Franklin played behind James Anderson, who was drafted #20 in the first round of the NBA draft. In fact, I was hoping that he was going to be around for the Mavericks. Marshall Moses, (All Big 12 this year) backed Anderson up. (I think) Anyway, Moses was their best player this year with All Big 12 Defender Jean-Paul Olukemi, further limiting minutes All OSU fans are eagerly waiting on the arrival next year of Dallas' 6-7 McDonald's All-American LeBryan Nash; to step right into that spot. He is Rivals #4 recruit with 5 Stars. (Which I don't don't pay attention to) These fans, in opinion, will be very disappointed in Nash. At any rate, Roger didn't want to possibly waste his junior year and felt that Travis Ford would feel forced to play Nash. Now, to hopefully temper Mean Greens fan's enthusiasm, Franklin will not be a star. He is, as you mentioned, a tweaner. He will, however, bring the necessary hustle and intensity that this team has lacked. He'll be more than a role player but should not be mentioned in the same breath as T. Mitch. I think the Sunbelt is more suited for his talents than the Big 12. Like many kids, he just over signed at OSU. Good player but a small forward (only) at 6-4. I've enjoyed watching Roger since both he and Shawn Williams starred at Duncanville freshmen. They reloaded and help DHS capture state in their Soph season. In my mock lineup, I have Franklin starting ahead of Jordan Williams at the 3. Roger, I feel is more D1 ready than Williams. As for as the last ship, I agree with everyone that we must find a big. I have now had an opportunity to watch 3 of Midland's playoff games. I haven't seen anything from Dwight Miller to get excited about. I would not be opposed to JJ signing the best player available, regardless of position. The 2012 class maybe where we land the big men we desire. (To replace Alonzo Edwards, K. Hogan and possibly Knox due to graduation) http://www.prepticke...ille-basketball http://www.prepticke...-Roger-Franklin http://www.prepticket.com/articles/detail/National/SouthWest/OK/college/Oklahoma-St-Cowboys/Duncanville's-Dynamic-Duo:-Roger-Franklin-and-Shawn-Williams http://www.prepticke...e-at-Cedar-Hill Click here to view the article

  18. Don't see any comparison to Tramiel. More in the mold of Shorter; with a better outside shot. Very powerful down low despite his 6-4 height. A better comparison might be a smaller David Miller, (who played some center at 6-5) Rich Young & Shorter. Would be a fan favorite with his intensity and hustle. Relentless on defense. If the choices are between Miller and Payne, give me Roger Franklin!
  19. Anyone concerned with her turnover? (no pun intended) She's going to need at least 3 recruiting classes, right? Coaching career 1994-1996 Baylor 1996-1998 NT 1998-2006 UT 2006-2007 Baylor 2007-2011 Charlotte 2011-present North Texas Slinker was with us for over 20 years

  23. Tasty, for us to get to that next level, we have to find those talented big men. Like football linemen, I realize they are the first off the board. The common denominator of Sweet Sixteen teams and most in the 64 tournament field was their size. It’s amazing to me to see so many talented bigs on Texas Juco rosters. Bring in some foreign kids. SMU can get them, Dallas Woodrow Wilson HS brings in 2 each year. They are dotted on rosters across the country. A talented 6-10 kid from Kennedale (Cates) signed early with SFA. A talented 6-10, 270 Andre Jackson, from Dallas Pinkston signed with S. Florida early. (Originally a So Miss commits who played at a TX Juco.) Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the job that the coaching staff has done over the past 4-5 years. Our kids graduate and are good citizens. Like most here, we’ve now experienced 3 trips to the dance. We now would like to see our alma mater advance further. JJ has gotten the attention of some the best recruits in Texas; (DFW) let’s seize the moment! We have always had good players year in and out. We just haven’t been able to have about 5-7 at the same time. (Since the mid 70’s) With the looks UNT is getting from top high school kids and transfers, competing in and/or winning the Sunbelt doesn’t excite me as much. (Been there, done that) The post guys we have will continue to give a great effort on Thursday and Saturday nights. Are any of them an enforcer down low? This is our biggest need to move closer to a Butler/Gonzaga. Talented recruits coming in want to play with other talented players. Not a popular decision, but JJ needs to free up necessary ships to elevate the program. Top program do. Moreover, it may be necessary if JJ aspires to ultimately land a 7 figure gig somewhere. Otherwise, he will continue to rack up 20 wins seasons, in front of 3,000, who are disappointed to not hear from the NIT, but continue to focus on a new year with hopes of landing talented big men.
  24. Never thought that SMU would be an option for him. I'm sure he would like to get out from under the shadow of Shawn Williams. TCU will not win anytime soon and having to endure those long flights to the East will not be fun. A large crowd for UTA is 1,200. This is a no brainer. I like Roger, but hope JJ address the post position first. Kids are backing out of commitments all over the place. Ray Penn (OSU) Kyan Anderson (Providence) Nolan Dennis (Baylor) and more to come....
