UNT Commit #8: LB Royce LeFrance, Helen Cox
Cooley replied to NT03's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Looks like a big, fast, hard hitting, 15-yard penalty, cheap shot SEC type of a guy. I guess we could use a few of those. -
Still a novice with the other functions. Rarely pay attention. Let me take a look.

Mean Green Coach Recruits New Talent Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1976 Hayden Fry, athletic director and head football coach, announced Wednesday that 12 high school football players have signed national letters of intent with North Texas. With the first announcement of recruits for the Mean Green, Fry pointed out that a similar number of signings would be completed by the weekend. David Adkisson, a highly sought player from Lake Dallas, is expected to sign with the Eagles later today. Half of Wednesday’s signees come from Dallas Carter High School in Dallas, a team that advanced to the state 4A quarterfinals in 1975. “Our success the first day assures us of an outstanding group of freshman football players for next fall,” Fry said. “It has been one of the most competitive years ever because of the large number of top players and I think we will have done quite well,” he added. Two of the first day signees are quarterbacks, Dallas Carter’s Marty Morrison and Houston Washington’s Byron Bryant. Bryant, son of Washington’s coach James Bryant, was the top punter in Houston with a 43.7 average. The first day recruits for North Texas (linemen include linebackers, backs include receivers) – BACKS: Byron Bryant, 6-3, 195, Houston Washington Bruce Chambers, 5-10, 165, Dallas Carter Larry Dixon, 6-0, 185 Dallas South Oak Cliff Malcolm Jones, 5-8, 165, Dallas Carter Marty Morrison, 6-2, 200 Dallas Carter Danny Whitaker, 6-0, 185 Decatur LINEMAN Clarence Chase, 6-5, 260 Waco Richfield Robert Foster, 6-4, 255 Allen David Hagerman, 6-4, 215, Dallas Carter Melvin Lark, 6-2 215, Dallas Carter Mark McNealy, 6-3, 235, Dallas WT White Tony Palmer, 6-4, 250, Dallas Carter Fry Adds Six to Letters of Intent Roster Thursday, Feb. 5, 1976 North Texas added six high school football players to its national letter of intent roster Thursday. The list includes David Adkisson of Lake Dallas, a 6-7, 220 pound athlete who has a choice between football and basketball or both. Adkisson’s brother, Kevin, is a freshman running back at North Texas. His father, Jack Adkisson, is more widely known as pro wrestler Fritz VonErich. Other line candidates are Greg Davidson, 6-2 230, of Stafford Dulles; and Brian O’Keefe, 6-4, 240 of Houston Bellaire. Backs signing with the Mean Green are Gary Dirks, 6-2, 215, Paris North Lamar; Jimmy Lockhart, 6-0, 190, Dallas WT White; and Walter Sims, 6-1, 200, Waco Richfield. Coach Hayden Fry announced 12 signings Wednesday, the first day for the national honor. According to Fry, this has been one of the Eagle’s most productive years in recruiting. “Now that we are competing with the “big boys’ for talent, things have gotten much tighter, but we have done very well,” Fry said

The rule now is 1 year after High School. A proposal being kicked around is 2 years after HS. Tony will be around but this is his 2nd year out of Pinkston. A kid does not have to attend college (Brandon Jennings)

Never seen a 5-7 safety!

That Top 30 ranking was a joke when it came out! Not to knock you but fans of these message boards need to stop believing all this bs that these recruiting services put out. We had commitments from about 5 guys early in the process. That ranking was more about that than anything else.

UTA is always a trap game for North Texas. This team gets up for us more than any other game. (Akin to us playing SMU) The guys came out rattled and never adjusted to playing on stage. What we saw was an overhyped recruiting class playing someone on their level or better. Outstanding game by the Mavericks tonight! I am, however, not too concerned at this point. We didn't address the center position during the recruiting period and the team is void of an offensive go to guy. We aren't great shooters and don't have anyone to create their own shot. Defense is bad and coaching is worse. The strength of the team is in our point guard play. JJ finally figured out that they need to play together. Chris Jones & Trey Norris will be fine. The lack of weapons from other guys causes them to try to do too much; leading to TO's. Overall, we are just a large collection of reserves; playing too soon at the D1 level. This was the bad game, during the course of a season that you throw out. We will probably have a great game which we should also throw out. The presence of a Tony Mitchell will make a huge difference. But for now, let’s just hope for improvement from the guys each game. No one seems comfortable with their role and/or playing together.

Video from last year at Lincoln Trail College. (#33) Currently playing with more confidence and ability at Hill. Not reflective in this video but this guy will be huge for us over the next 2 years.
-
Rivers is much better (as is Kybonga) but I too would take Abrons over Nash. Abrons is a powerful guy down low but does not have the overall skills as many above him.
-
#6 LeBryan Nash will be the biggest disappointment in the group! Talented ? YES! Head case? YES. Tony Mitchell > Nash

Thanks Sparkmank!

Agree Silver that new coaches shouldn’t keep kicking the can down the road every year of their guaranteed contract period The first year is almost in the books. Like many of you, I’m already focusing on 2012! Where are the horses in the early commits? What redshirts project to be difference makers in 2012? Our program should always attract legit D1 transfers each year. (2 is not enough at this point) We need to reprimand our top guys, rather than automatically kick them off the team for non legal transgressions. With little depth, we can’t afford to have guys quit the program during the season for non football related reasons. Building a winning program starts at the QB position. Despite stating that he didn’t want a statute at QB; this staff failed to bring in the dual threat difference maker we needed. Instead, our QB’s continue to get knocked out of games by the 2nd play of games. 2012 Expectations? • .500 record and/or very competitive in all games (home and away) • Extend less favors to friends and acquaintances in recruiting We have the market, facilities and record pay to do much better, albeit Mac’s first year here. Silver, myself and others have suffered far too long. Is it asking too much to expect immediate results from our coaching staff? 1978 Graduate

Let's compromise and recruit more Jason Kidds, Blake Griffin and Austin Rivers. Maybe get Barack Obama to coach these kids. -
