  1. http://www.georgiastatesports.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=12700&ATCLID=1275433 Had a Shanice Stephen's type of career at Washington State. Would have to blow RV away in the the interview. Local guy, UNT graduate. I attended HS with his spouse (if they are still together) Just another name!
  2. Guy looks very mobile to me. Like moving from one school to another every year. Seen this movie too many times at NT. Prefer local transfer candidates.
  3. I had mentioned here about 2-3 weeks ago that a big time local kid from the SEC was looking to transfer back to the area. Well, I had my conferences wrong, but former DeSoto Eagle and current Florida State forward Antone Space will soon be an Aggie. Space had floated that UNT was a possibilty with Chris, Jordan and others. Space was injured most of the year (first season at FSU) but for some strange reason never found game action with the Seminoles. In my opinion, Space has more NBA potential than Tony Mitchell and would have been a major force for us. Anyway, good luck to him in College Station.
  4. Excellent post!
  5. Maybe this was discussed here before but I was not aware of this promotion. Helps explain UTSU's record breaking crowd. A cute way to at least fill the Wing. http://alumni.utsa.edu/page.aspx?pid=489
  6. I'd personally like for us to conduct a national search for our next coach (whenever that may be) No one here had ever heard of Johnny Jones, Karen Aston (despite coaching here before) or Dan McCarney. The administration is committed to athletics more today than at any other time that I have followed the program. Though I don't have a problem with Shawn Forrest or others on staff, we owe it to ourselves to get this right. I am also not concerned about what may or may not return next year. Basketball is the easiest team sport to turn around in a short period of time. Contrary to the “train wreck” conditions Brett Vito described in his blog today (regarding the state of UNT basketball) before JJ. I respectfully disagree. We’ve had our share of bad hires just like any other school. When operating on a shoe string budget, those things happen. Baylor Men’s basketball was a train wreck before Scott Drew took over. In just a short period of time, they are a national power. Did anyone know that Baylor women played basketball before Kim Mulkey got there? Though I'm still pissed at Aston, she quickly turned the perception around for the women. All I’m saying is that we should not settle. I sincerely hope that JJ returns. I will, however, continue to advocate that he do more with this team/program. Don’t care about how bad Trilli, and others, were before him. That’s the nature his profession. For the 1st time I can remember, we are seriously being considered to move up the conference landscape. We can't be too short sighted with our desire to retain a staff person to help compete in the Sunbelt. I’m sick of the Sunbelt! I want to go knock off UNLV, New Mexico & Tulsa. If JJ is fortunate enough to return to his alma mater, God bless him! There is absolutely no reason for us to rush to hire a replacement; with no scholarships to give (this spring). There will be significant interest immediately with additional firing to come. I appreciate the much needed stability that JJ has brought to the men’s program. I repeat, I wish he stays. He has been a great ambassador for the program and made UNT relevant in DFW. JJ has been here about 11 years and I would like to see him advance the program further. If he has the opportunity to advance his career away from UNT, I wish him well; I just don’t feel that we would necessarily revert back to the perceived train wreck condition.
  7. RV would have the mother of long lines when this job opened up!
  8. Kincaide is 6-2, runs a 4-5 and has alot more offers than what's shows on that list. Should be on Dave Campbell's Blue Chip list this summer.
  9. After an anticipated quiet spring signing period, (April 11th - May 16th) JJ and staff will be extremely busy for the November 14th - November 21st) early signing period (2013 class). With 5-6 scholarships available, a look at some of the area's potential targets: Ben Emelogu, 6-4, South Grand Prarie (Asst coach - Former UNT player, Brandon Gilbert) Leyton Hammonds, 6-6, Richland (Head Coach - Richard Bacon, former Dallas Lincolon & TCU Asst coach) Kendal Harris, 6-3, Richardson Berkner Devante Kincaide, 6-2, Dallas Skyline (will be a major football recruit - QB) Nathan Hawkins, 6-4, Rowlett (coached by UNT great Stan Blackman) - "A Cooley Sleeper" Austin Luke, Rowlett 6-4, (coached by Stan Blackman) Matt Jones, 6-4, DeSoto (Duke commit) Greg Wesley, 6-7, Arlington Sequin (Jordan Williams clone) Keith Frazier, 6-5, Dallas Kimball (National recruit) Shirmane Thomas, 6-2, Dallas Lincoln Braylon Rayson, West Mesquite Anthony Walker, 6-6, West Mesquite Daeshone Hall, 6-7, Lancaster (Calif. transfer) J.D. 10. Why this woman couldn't have waited it out at Charlotte for her career opportunity is beyond me. Hopefully she'll make enough money to move her family closer. Good riddance! Signed Screwed and used again
  11. Playing in the shadow of TCU Football and moving to the BIg XII
  12. Anyone who is not going to bail on us after 1 year! I had been monitoring the progress of the co-head coach tandem of husband and wife Michael and Kenya Landers of Trinity Valley Community College. Unfortnately, they just resigned, within the week, to become assistants on the Ole Miss squad. TVCC just completed a 36-0 National Juco Championship to claim their 6th overall. Both are native Texans who recruit the country for the best talent. Kenya is a Duncanville, Texas native and played with Jalie Mitchell in high school. She went on to have a steller career at UT after initially signing with TCU. Hell, maybe it's not too late. the resignation is effective April 6th. Maybe they can bring some of that freshman talent they had at TVCC. http://www.cbs19.tv/story/17291381/kenya-and-michael-landers-leaving-trinity-valley-for-ole-miss http://www2.tvcc.edu/Lady-Cards-Basketball/article.aspx?articleid=528&zoneid=222&deptid=187 http://www2.tvcc.edu/Lady-Cards-Basketball/article.aspx?articleid=527&zoneid=222&deptid=187
  13. Remember the name from watching the broadcast of Little Joe Hamilton and NT games from the Snake Pit on Channel 21 (or 27) in Dallas. RIP!
  14. I'm with NT03. Why this kid hasn't already been offered is crazy! You offer for no other reason than to create goodwill with the Denton community. What's the fasination with Derek Thompson or any other returning starter? With 5 wins, this was still a bad D1 football team. Most of these guys are reserves on most D1 teams. Get Scotty Young in here and let the best guys on the field right away. Here's hoping the coaching staff will show this guy some serious love at the spring game!

  19. What was that huge thing hanging over half court?
  20. Not Bob Knight! It's been a while since I have been in the rec center but does not look like that either. Half the team was in the video.

They have played in the NIT before!
  22. NT03, I still think shooting guard is a weakness. I'm not a Walton fan and would rather give the local freshman the nod. Overlander is not an athelete and will struggle against quicker guards. He will, however, fill a key role for this team. He has grown on me throughout the season and I think will be a more consistent shooter. I maintain that JJ signed him too early before seeing if he could have upgraded the team more. I also penciled him in ahead of Alzee because I don't like a point guard tandem of Chris Jones and Alzee Williams together. We need to open things up for Mitchell, Odoh & Patton. Hearing a Dallas area kid (impact player) maybe be looking to come home due to a lack of playing time and being home sick. This kid would be a major impact player for us.. Has not officially asked for or been granted his release. Looks like Kimball is up at halftime in Austin, If they win, I'm off to see Overlander (Argyle), Kimball & FM Marcus Saturday bring home the gold! This post has been promoted to an article

  24. Tony Mitchell A - Have watched Tony since the summer of his sophomore year in HS (before going away to Atlanta and Miami) I never felt that Tony was comfortable this year; trying too hard to please. Don’t ever remember him being in foul trouble at Pinkston. Don’t see where his shot has improved from High School or his ball handling. I maybe the only person who feels that Tony should remain in college for 4 year. Tony played as expected. I’m looking forward to a breakout year next year; along John Odoh. Kendrick Hogan D - Huge disappointment for a medical redshirt senior. Was not recruited as a prime time player but reserve post player. (Albeit undersized) Alonzo Edwards D - Poor transfer signing, no PT at Nebraska and unimpressive numbers in Junior College. Too slow and not athletic. Roger Franklin C - Undersized at 6-4 for post play and not enough skills on the perimeter, very likeable teammate to Tony Mitchell and others. Niko - C (Didn't expect much, no surprises for a 6-10 marginal Juco player. Had some moment) Alzee Williams - B + (Would like for Alzee to return to the bench next year to provide strength off the bench. Most consistent player on the team and a very reliable free throw shooter. Brandon Walton - D Was not impressed with this signing from day 1 as a Juco transfer. Was not as consistent as I would like for my shooting guard. Didn't open up the middle and was a poor free throw shooter for the 2 guard. Chris Jones - F (failed the team) Jordan Williams F (failed the team) Trey Norris - C Did not expect much out of the 5-8 point guard but did not hurt the team when called on. Tyler Hall B - (pleasant surprise for a walk-on; Not a Jeremy Lin story but effective. Jacob Holman C - Not a Holman fan, limited basketball skills and have not shown improvement over his freshman year, forces too many shots. Forrest Robinson - D Probably the most consistent shooter on the team when healthy, but he was not; which affected his mobility) If all goes well in 2012 – 2013: C - John Odoh, 6-9, Jr PF - Tony Mitchell, 6-8, Soph SF – Justin Patton, 6-7, Sr SG – Clarke Overlander, 6-4 Fr PG - Chris Jones, 6-2 Soph Reserves: C- Niko PF – Forrest Robinson SF – Roger Franklin SF – Jordan Williams PG – Alzee Williams Brandon Walton Jacob Holeman Trey Norris Brandon Pye Sitting out SEC transfer?
