I'd rather wait to see how the season plays out. A few quality wins and some that shouldn't count based on the competition. I've always felt that it shouldn't take more than 2 years to turn a basketball program around. It also helps with a transfer portal in place where you can bring your 2 best players with you.

AAC agrees foul should have been called
Cooley replied to cousin oliver's topic in Mean Green Basketball
This was a clear pushing foul by Allen. No one likes the instant replay system but it should be made available on a limited basis; if the technology is in place. Because bad calls occur throughout a game, the coach should have at least one challenge. Happy about the win but not with controversy. It's just a matter of time before we get screwed.- 36 replies

Never missed a home basketball game as a student (1975-1978). Don't ever recall a game with less than 2,000 students in attendance. Largest, of course, was 10,500 total attendance (Jan. 21, 1977) against the Ira Terrell lead SMU Mustangs. (103-99 NTSU victory. Someone need to correct this misprint.

Breaking: North Texas land Liberty Transfer QB Reese Mooney
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Damn, does ACU still have that QB spot available? -
Pardon my ignorance but I don't understand the back and forth on this topic.

What is Mean Green Nation’s opinion on Coach O?

For a role that only pays $60K annually, I can't think of a better value.- 22 replies

Nick Saban retiring
Cooley replied to GoGreenBeans's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
The median wage for all NFL players is around $860,000, which is considerably lower, and First-year rookies earn a minimum of $435,000. While top quarterbacks can make over $25 to $30 million per year, the average salary for all quarterbacks is $5,766,000, with a median income of $1,100,000.Sep 5, 2023. My point is that NIL was created as a result of coaches and universities making millions while players were limited to room & board. Additionally, despite contracts, coaches were allowed to move around (with or without buyouts) They are not required to sit out either. I don't agree nor like today's NIL; wish it never happened. Don't think the NCAA saw this tsunami and failed to have guidelines or rules in place. -

Two Signees Nominated for McDonald's All-American Game
Cooley replied to MCMLXXX's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Nice to have this on a kid's profile. I've seen as many as 500-800 McDonalds nominees annually over the years. Dallas Carter, Dallas Madison and Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy all have 3 nominees for 2024. Nominations are from the kids head coach, principal or AD. Interesting that Taylor's father is his coach. UNT has had several nominees (Boys and Girls) in the past. The City of Houston is making a killing hosting big games; as this game will also be in Houston. -
Will probably end up at SMU (just a guess) but a top 2023 area talent from Frisco Memorial. Speculation is that his sister was the female involved in the alleged assault. Steffe was away from the team due to personal reasons prior to entering the portal. Hadn't seen any game action and was headed toward a redshirt year. Would love his outside shooting in the Super Pit but don't see any avenues. https://x.com/gunsupnation/status/1743107420228825170?s=20

Read he received $200,000 - $300,000 at Liberty. Looking for at least $500,000. UNT did offer him out of HS. Dallas Morning News' Offensive Player of the Year. Best looking QB I saw in HS a few years ago. Brother Kylan Salter is a Fr. LB at TCU who played with Zhaiylen Scott (UNT recruit)

A stop gap QB, if we can't find a stud this year, is Grayson James of FIU. Honestly, I've never been a James fan but he lead Plano's John Paul II HS to the state championship round his junior year. Transferred to Duncanville for his senior year. He has been in the portal for sometime. I'm sure he would like to be back in the metroplex. Good size at 6-3, 235 with decent speed.

And his scrambling/running ability allows guys to get open. Kansas was a dog program before he got there. He certainly took them to new heights Should have never left but we had an overpaid rookie head coach that wanted to get back to Oklahoma as soon as he could. By the way, We’re still looking for a quarterback after that fiasco.

He didn’t lose the starting role. They rotated possessions 50/50

I think we should and will take more flyers on kids in today's portal environment. A percentage of a class consists of grad transfers and/or undergrad transfers; who may be out the following year. Here today and gone tomorrow. We have signed over 40 kids and are not through. This is another reason, in my opinion, to not invest too heavily in high school kids. (who would normally need a redshirt) Maybe this year was an outlier with over 20 that entered the portal. An historical review of past classes has always yielded kids (high school and juco) that never panned out. Why not bring in a 4-star periodically with question marks?

I saw his name in the portal about a week ago. Was thinking that UNT made too much sense. Outstanding production at Lancaster High a few years ago. If he is the same as in HS, he's my #1 back. (I think Chris Gilbert was his coach)

First Quarter Complete - What's your Grade?
Cooley replied to HoosMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
24-25 could get ugly. I only show 2 scholarships for next year and they are already committed. Don't see any help to upgrade this team. -
SOC Class of 2023. One of 6 of their DB's to receive a scholarship. 5 went FBS and Spruiells went FCS to Northern Arizona. Entered the portal about a week ago. UNT would be his largest offer so good chance he lands here. https://x.com/DavidSpruiells3/status/1736576526282297574?s=20 https://www.hudl.com/profile/13012835/David-Spruiells https://nauathletics.com/sports/football/roster/david-spruiells/6698

This kid has been slept on for the past 2 years. We really need to flip him from Sam Houston St. Another Mason Fine prospect playing for arguable the best high school team in Texas history; against the best competition. If he isn't a G5 starter he is a legit backup. His height is the only reason he is not P5. https://www.hudl.com/profile/13645564/Darius-Bailey https://www.hudl.com/video/3/13645564/63a2a704bee085142870c53c
