  1. I think SMU was redshirting the best QB on the team last year. (Darrell Colbert of Houston Lamar) Saw him in HS against Allen at Cowboy Stadium. Wish we had him.
  2. Does this board not have administrators anymore?
  3. Brice will avg. at least 10 PPG, 8 RBS and 2 BLKs per game as a freshman. Yes, the competition will be stronger but he will not have 2 guys doubling him the entire game. (albeit 6-1) Additionally, we have not had a point guard (since Weasel Johnson) that can break down defenses and get into the lane like J'Mychal Reese. Brice will make his living from dish passes, alley oops and follow-up dunks. His left handed hook, to his right, is money down low. Robinson's game was completely different; as he never played down low. Brice's game has evolved where he does not take outside shots like he did before his senior year. It'll be fun to revisit this in a year
  4. I think we have to sign another big man. (A 6-9, ready to play, Juco would be great) I love what I see in Brice but he will be a pup. I do see him as an impact player fairly quickly. I don't think Combs will get much better unless he can find 20 pounds. We badly need a small forward to replace Jordan. That would have been Greg Wesley's slot. We are so guard heavy that I don't see a need there. There appears to be an offer out there to the Mansfield Lake Ridge point guard. (Woolridge) I saw him last night and am not interested. Don't we have 3 scholarships available? I don't know if all the guys on the roster are on ships, right? Kinda hoping White-Pittman gets homesick.
  5. I thought the tribute to George Dunham was 1st class. Amazing to hear from all the NT connections in the sports media around DFW and the state. As for as the game is concerned, I thought everyone played well (other than Voss tonight) . I think the team is playing as well as they can play. Benford seems to know this team much better than his previous teams. I also agreed with his substitutions and frequency. What a difference a year can make! They are much better playing man to man the entire game. Really excited about what next year can look like with the 3 guard lineup of Harris, Anifiok and Reese on the floor together. Go Mean Green!

  7. I think I remember that GrandGreen! I expected a record crowd and got there early (As I usually do anyway) I also wanted to see my high school rival, Ira Terrell (Dallas Roosevelt) They beat us out our senior year and went on to win the state championship. I think he still holds the state championship record with 47 points in a championship game. http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/college-sports/smu-mustangs/20120517-basketball-star-terrell-to-be-enshrined-with-five-others-tonight-in-smu-athletic-hall-of-fame.ece
  8. Not sure if he ever received a Mean Green offer. It was a long wait, but Denton Guyer's shooting guard, Sean Choate has decided to join the Naval Academy and play basketball, over offers from Division II and NAIA programs. https://texashoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1740148
  9. Yep, I am in for Thursday night. Was desperate for some hoop action tonight that I took in the UTA/Lafayette game. Had never been to College Park. Also, promised the kid from Lincoln that I would make a game. Go Mean Green!
  10. The window to fire Tony Benford (before his contract expires) is all but closed. I actually like what I have seen this year. Yeah, a couple of bad losses but a few good wins as well. For the most part, very competitive basketball in all games. A normal year for most programs. I really didn't expect much from this team without a good point guard and center. (Yes, he is responsible for the roster) Both, however, will be addressed next year. If Benford can find 2 more good pieces, I think he will finally turn the corner. If he does or does not, I will not gleefully post after each loss.
  11. Facing another Dallas area kid that migrated to Florida. Kris Gulley (formerly of Dallas Skyline/Madison)
  12. Yes against the Mustangs in 1976 (If I remember correctly) Great atmosphere with mostly NTSU fans. Actually had folks standing all around the arena trying to see. Edit: Didn't see the exact date that CMJ posted. Was the 76-77 season
  13. That winning record of Dan McCarney is really packing folks into that palace across the freeway. I don't have a major problem with the Superpit other than those tight seats. It would also be nice to move the media out of those prime seats. (maybe into a dedicated suite area) A ticket booth is certainly at the top of the list.
  14. Point guard played with Julius Randle @ Plano Prestonwood.
  15. He held his own the only time I saw him in AAU play. (last year) He's bigger and better now. Of course he will not dominate right away in CUSA but he is ready for prime time. Don't know if you read the article but his goal is to be the best big man recruit in the history of the program. I can't disagree with that at this stage.
  16. The 7-1, 268 is someone's projection as he is not there yet. I think we need a muscular 6-8/6-9 JUCO PF/C for next year. We also need a SF that can score and play defense. Too bad Greg Wesley didn't work out because he could have helped at that position. PG J'Mychal Reese Ja'Michael Brown SG Maurice Anifiok DeAndre Harris SF Juco Recruit PF Jeremy Combs/Juco Recruit Center Ricky Brice/Juco Recruit I don't know if Carrington Ward can play or not. I also thought Mohammed Ahmed was a better player than what he has shown.
  17. February 16, 2015 More to come from Brice Blue Zertuche What a difference a year makes, especially for 7-foot-1, 268 pound post, Rickey Brice. The University North Texas signee is turning into the player that most scouts and evaluators had been waiting to see. https://texashoops.rivals.com/
  18. If we signed a fraction of top kids whose parents (or other family members) attended UNT/NTSU, we'd be a perennial top 20 program.
  19. Unrelated but I was thinking of some of the largest football players from back in the day. Any oldtimers remember Ernie "Big Cat" Ladd? This guy was huge by 1960 standards. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/the-squared-circle/The-Big-Cat-Ernie-Ladd-stood-tall-in-every-facet-of-his-life.html
  20. Lots of great academic schools outside of TAPPS (Division 1) Plano West has been ranked # 1 since last year and recruit with the best. If you want to know of other burbs that recruit , let me know. Hell, he'd be better off at neighboring Arlington Martin.
  21. 100% +
  22. Maybe our recruiting was aided by the sign we had up "Sack N Save and McDonalds coming down" Talk about finally getting Razor Ranch moving again can help as well; with a new state of the art theater.
  23. Quiet night tonight against FW Christian (@ Arlington Pantego) 26 Pts 14 Rbs 5 blks Its really hard watching this level of ball. Despite towering over his opponents, their guards still have a difficult time getting him the ball. You would expect a kid this size to dominate the game. He does not disappoint! The backboard rattles after each dunk. Really excited to see this kid develop over the next 4 years.
  24. Looks like running back by committee. Wish we could have found a 25 carry a game type RB. (That's also a threat to take it to the house on any carry) Jemison dances too much in the backfield and Wilson doesn't look like he can take the pounding. Maybe he will show up 10 pounds heavier in the fall.
