  1. Well, if LSU wins all of its games (with this class) and UNT wins out, we may see them in the Final Four. Never too early to scout the opponent. Besides, this is more interesting than the color of TCU's uniform(s).
  2. I normally don't catch many girls games but saw Calvert and Cibolo Steele against Cedar Hill; during a Christmas tournament in 2012. Went to see our highly touted recruit, Candice Adams, who was listed as a national 100 recruit. Calvert was very good but never saw a shot that she didn't like. Jalie would have been at UT then and not with Cynthia Cooper. She originally committed to Baylor and was a top statewide recruit. Maybe Jalie and UT were also recruiting her.
  3. Karen Aston/Jalie seems to like girls with girth that can play. http://www.lsusports.net/ViewArticle.dbml?SPSID=27833&SPID=2167&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=5200&ATCLID=209619861&Q_SEASON=2014
  4. While waiting on Vito to break a story: LSU's Basketball's class is really impressive! Had they not had 2 kids declare for the draft, they might have been something special next year. Ben Simmons is one of the better looking players I have seen in a long long time. Will be the best player in college basketball next year and clearly the #1 pick in the NBA the following year. We now get to see if Johnny Jones can coach. Pressure is now on LSU coach Johnny Jones to coach up a monster class of Ben Simmons, Antonio Blakeney & Brandon Sampson. — Adam Zagoria (@AdamZagoria) April 20, 2015

  6. Maybe. Sounds like she has the itch to get back in the college game. I would think its hard to walk away from something you've done for 26 years. We can only have her to tell us no. Speaking of the women, how many scholarships does Jalie have to work with? (Unable to get on the site) How many did Peterson sign and does Jalie plan on honoring all of them? What is the biggest need on the roster? Unfortunatly, I never could understand what Peterson was doing with the roster and haven't kept up.

  8. Former Texas A&M forward Antwan Space to complete eligibility at UMass http://t.co/SkEfx27Ce1 — CollegeBasketbllTalk (@CBTonNBC) April 19, 2015 Oh well, so much for wanting to be closer to a daughter (in the metroplex) and to get more playing time. (for his final year after a May graduation at Texas A&M)
  9. KRAM, Weasel is clearly my favorite basketball player of all-time! We were friends but not close friends. What I remember most about him is after his career was over. Having just completed a future Hall of Fame career, he'd often come over to the Men's gym and play with a team I coached and played on. As the coach, I would instruct our guys and Weasel what to do. Not once did he project an attitude of arrogance or superiority and helped me during practice. I agree, very genuine. Unfortunately, I totally forgot about the Hall of Fame ceremony earlier but was able to make the Spring Game on time. Actually shared the photo with Ken Williams on facebook.
  10. Bill Blakeley would certainly agree with you about defense. The goal was to outscore the opponent and possibly break the scoreboard (100+). This style is what helped attract top players to North Texas and fans in the stands. It also helped land high school head coach Jimmy Gales and his run and gun style from Dallas' SOC. Gales' teams were also known for its triple digit points in Dallas. Though defense was not a focus, Blakeley did, however, feel that is was crucial to have good rebounders and shot blockers to help start fast breaks. Also, quickness on the floor to employ a relentless full court press. It was even more impressive when you consider that there was no shot clock or 3-pt shots. Also, dunking was not allowed in 75-76. (technical foul). As a personal protest, he oftened praised his kids for actually dunking in games. Blakeley felt that the game was meant to be entertaining; which attracted record Super Pit crowds (despite an enrollment of only 17k) During his first 3 years of 20+ seasons, the team only suffered 2 losses at home. The 75-76 squad still holds the school record for the highest % of wins in a season. (22-4 record - Didn't play as many games) As has been pointed out previously, many of the 75-76 players were already in place (from the Gene Robbins regime). Blakeley's arrival, along with the addition of Weasel Johnson, was the impetus for the success of the program. Weasel's impact was certainly Hall of Fame worthy.
  11. I know this want happen but she could keep her day job: "I have spent 26 years being involved in and now following the women’s basketball program at North Texas. I am writing in hopes of accumulating support, not that she needs it, for newly named head coach, Jalie Mitchell, one of UNT’s finest and someone who can re-establish alumni support and lead the program in a positive and productive direction. Mitchell needs your support and understanding of the task involved. For the past seven years since my contract was not renewed, I have followed the program and thought a great deal about why it continues to struggle. I understand better today, than ever, that it was certainly time for a change and remain hopeful that the program can regain the respect it once had." 12. Author of 350 assists and the newest member of the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame, Walter "Weasel" Johnson. pic.twitter.com/bvOZjn3sFG — MeanGreenBasketball (@MeanGreenMBB) April 18, 2015 Congrats "Weasel" Walter "Weasel" Johnson (men's basketball) - Johnson was the dynamic point guard for the most prolific-scoring and entertaining teams in school history. He set the school record for assists in a single season in 1976-77 with 208, averaging 7.7 per game. In his first season with NT in 1975-76, he dished out 142 assists as the Mean Green scored 96 points per game and won a then school-record 22 games. In 1976-77, NT won 21 games and averaged 87.5 points a game. Johnson quarterbacked the Mean Green to wins over Baylor, Arizona State, SMU, Kansas State, TCU, Tulsa and Creighton. North Texas scored over 100 points 16 times in his two seasons as point guard. He scored 13.5 points a game his first year and 14.4 points a game his senior season. He was the first player in school history to play 1,000 minutes in a season, and has the second highest minutes per game average in history at 37.0 in 1976-77. 1975-1976 Team Terry Bailey, 6-8 Jr. F-C Crandall, TX (HCJC-TVCC) - 1st Team All-Conference, JUCO AA Fred Mitchell, 6-7 Sr. SF Amarillo, TX (Palo Duro HS) - 1st Team All-State (Class 4A POY} Melvin Davis, 6-8 So PF Greenville, TX (Greenville HS) - 1st Team All-State Kenneth Williams, 6-7 So C Dallas, TX (SOC HS) 1st Team Class 4-A All-St (Natl rbs Leader) "Weasel Johnson , 6-0 Jr PG Houston Milby HS (All Conference @ McLennan JC) Carl Jones, 6-3 Jr SG Wichita, TX (Wichita Fall HS) - 1st Team All State Waymond Lister, 6-3 Fr. 13. This doesn't make much sense (if true). You would think that a first time HC would reach out to someone with a lot more experience. I know we all want Jalie to be successful but you have to question this potential hire. Foreman isn't much older than the kids she will be coaching. Would Tina Slinker consider coming back as an assistant to help Jalie like Rob Evans to Tony Benford?
  14. I was impressed with the number of punts we got in today. (Especially the one on the opponents 41 yard line - in a spring game) We were in mid season form.
  15. Tony Benford is the current head coach at UNT at a time when college transfers are rising significantly every year, (as pointed out in the article(s). It only stand to reason that there will be more under his watch than JJ's or coaches before him. This is based on fact, rather than whether a person likes him or not. It is also why today's coaches are calling it an epidemic. "Research by the NCAA shows that the number of transfers from two-year/junior college schools into Division I has remained steady over the last 10 years or so, hovering between roughly 15 percent and 17 percent of all Division I players. The real movement, though, is within Division I. According to STATS, the number of transfers from one Division I school to another jumped from 259 to 325 from 2012-13 to 2013-14 alone. That number could go much higher once this year's transfers are tallied." The number has averaged 600 for the past 2 season and could exceed that in 2015. http://www2.kusports.com/news/2014/dec/27/alarming-trend-number-college-basketball-transfers/ http://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/2014/04/25/college-basketball-transfers-proliferate-various-reasons/8150561/ http://www.shakinthesouthland.com/2015/3/27/8292187/the-rash-of-college-basketball-transfers http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2014/04/18/transfer-numbers-way-up-in-d-college-basketball-as-players-seek-instantaneous/ http://sports.cbslocal.com/2015/03/25/college-basketballs-transfer-problem/
  16. So, since the provided links (above) doesn't appear to support your claim that UNT is "Transient U", (moreso than any other program) you had to try to find something else to bash the coach. I generally try to keep all my game programs so that I can keep up with the rosters year to year. It might help you as well. Don't think I will find a roster with all 4 year players though.
  17. UNT90, you should know that there is an epidemic of transfers (with all programs) all around the the country. (1,200 in the last 2 years). I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you want to only blame UNT (Who remains below the average per year) 2015 VC Transfer List is now up to 460+ names: http://t.co/KYYdzknyIs — Verbal Commits (@VerbalCommits) April 15, 2015 http://www2.kusports.com/news/2014/dec/27/alarming-trend-number-college-basketball-transfers/ http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/31/southern-illinois-loses-five-to-transfer-coach-rips-the-decisions/
  18. Which is why I think one of the guards in gone. I also don't see the need to have TJ back. (He has been replaced) So, I would imagine a 6-9 C/PF (with 1 ship) or Center & PF (with 2)
  19. I don't look at it that way Andrew. We didn't have any centers on the team. Brice fills one of two needs there. Deckie does not replace TJ (who played out of position at the point). We should be better there with J-Mychal Reese & JaMichael Brown. Deckie, in my opinion, doesn't replace anyone but provides additional depth at the 2 (w/ DeAndre Harris, Carrington Ward and Anefiok.) We're in bad shape if we're hoping to play a 6-2 or 6-3 guard at SF. From what little I have seen on video, I like the potential signing of Holston. He appears to be as good of a shooter as the often inconsistent Jordan from outside. I love how he looks to penetrate to the hole every opportunity. (Something Jordan should have been coached to do more of).
  20. Someone at the guard position can't be coming back.
  21. TexasHoops.com Rank #31 (Class of 2013) RAY is a big bodied paint player with very good feet and mobility for a player his size. He can really sit down on the block and call for the ball, catches the ball in close to the rim and finishes well. He can take up space defensively, can push his man off the block and can challenge shots and clog the lane on drives to the hole. He has good hands, moves quickly to the ball and rebounds and works hard. He will have to work to stay in shape and polish off his skills but his has some good tools to work with. 6'9" http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1288195/ray-barreno
  22. If Jalie had been in place last year maybe we would have had a shot at his sister. http://www.baylorbears.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/070714aaa.html
  23. I've seen this kid twice (In Carrollton & Duncanville with the Latinos Select AAU team). At the time, I thought he was one of the more impressive big men I saw. Don't know why he has not flourished but I would not be disappointed with the signing. He's not a stiff and was very effective down low. Reminded me of Tyler Davis of Plano West (A&M signee). Obviously not the impact guy I was/am hoping for down low but a badly needed big body. I think I mentioned him on here in the past. That Latinos Select team, btw, was very good!
