March 13, 2017 - Grant McCasland Named Mean Green Basketball Coach Spring Signing Period Opens (April 11, 2017 to May 16, 2017) April 11, 2017 - McCasland Signs Arikawe And Smart On First Day Of Signing Period April 12, 2017 - McCasland Adds Gibson And Miller To Signing Class April 13, 2017 - McCasland Picks Up Mark Tikhonenko For 2017-18 Season April 20, 2017 - Grant McCasland Signs Jorden Duffy To Recruiting Class June 6, 2017 McCasland Lands Arkansas State Transfer Jahmiah Simmons for 2018-2019 We were basically done with recruiting by April 20, 2017 with almost 1 months remaining. Smart & Tikhonenko had already verballed to ArkSt. Miller and Duffy were being recruited. Simmons was already with ArkSt and looking for a ship to open at UNT. Gibson had also been offered early by Benford.

Well he is Assoc Head Coach. (For the ego)
-
4 of the 6-7 guys signed are not contributing at this time. (Arikawe, Miller, Tikhonenko and Simmons). 2 are Juco’s. McCasland had plenty of time to recruit guys that could help right away. He chose to bring in kids that he was recruiting for Ark St. and was finished with recruiting long before the well dried up. We have a 6-4 forward role player taking up a scholarship this year to play next year. Unless he runs someone off, we only have 1 more kid to possibly bring in to upgrade the front court talent.

I'm ok with Duffy but Andrew's point (I believe) is that he is a juco. Simmons was not expected to contribute as much as a thin true freshman that didn't play much in HS. My frustration was that we didn't go get a tested big man. Tope appears to be a bust as a juco big man.

Agree. Coaching can only take you so far. You need horses.
-
Agree 100% Andrew. That was the potential upset. Anyway, at least we can debate a potential winner. That's progress.
-
At some point we will stop talking about Benford and the past. Doesn't matter if you lose by 30 or 3. It's clear that we are more competitive but we are not getting production out of some of McCasland's recruits; to get even better. There's only one for next year.

Didn't understand why you put the ball in Lawson's hand. That was Smart's play to tie or to win. When will the Russian kid be available?

24-22 UTA (Halftime)

22-21 UNT 3:26 1st Qtr

Its a turnover when Lawson shots from the outside. Tied up 17-17

DRC late night hoops rewind: Oklahoma 82, UNT 72

I don’t follow spreads. Never have. According to spreads, we were going to beat UT Rio Grande. That’ why folks win a lot of money going away from it. -

We were competitive throughout the game but beating OU (this year) would not have been a “massive” upset. UTA beat this team in Norman by 15. Again, great effort by the Mean Green but this is the least talented OU squad they’ve had in a while. (The local kid, however, is special) Also, don’t agree with Vito’s “Star of the Game”. Ryan Woolridge is clearly the MVP of this team early in the season. He will lead the team in turnovers but I can’t imagine what this team would look like without him. -
They've played the following home games thus far: Eureka College, Bethune-Cookman, UTRGV & Grambling State. Other than Eureka Springs, the wins have been close or lost. I agree that they deserve better support.

6-0, 260 RB. Loved this kid while at Trinity HS. Looking to transfer from Indiana. Not sure if the coaching staff would be interested with limited scholarships but he would be ideal in short yardage (or goal line) at QB or RB. Former Trinity teammates are lobbying for a return to the metroplex. https://www.hudl.com/profile/2162740/tyler-natee

I have a wonderful wife that has been great for me from day one. but if there’s constant talk from her, and others, that she may leave me for another man then it’s time for her to go. I know I have a lot to offer someone else who could please me just as much. Will it be inconvenient for me for a while? Yes, but I’m not going to stress over it and move on. My finances are better today than they have ever been. I have also been great for her. I hope she finds happiness. I’m still an attractive guy that can, in time, win over another gal that can provide me with everything I look for.

SMU takes this team down 95-64 tonight. -
Lawson looks terrible. Still waiting on a Mike Miller sighting
-
You also need at least 2 quality backs (A & 1A). We need a replacement for Jeff Wilson next year that is better than what we have now or who may be sitting out. Quality depth across the board is what I desire.

I can understand a larger school offering this coach $$$ as their OC but this defense is still statistically one of the worse in the country. Hopefully FAU won’t hang 800 + yards on us this weekend.

DRC: Is UNT having the best season of G5 programs in Texas?
Cooley replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I just did. This is discussed all the time. Barber shops, talk shows, ball games, with my family and friends and often on GMG.com. The people who may accept this as truth may not have been around and/or uninformed. (In general and not specific to anyone) This is why asterisks are used.
