Breaking: North Texas lands Louisiana Safety Transfer
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I guess the staff was not optimistic about SOC’s Safety Taylor Starling. Was committed to Colorado but needed a new home with the coaching change. Committed to Texas State as their highest rated recruit in history. Didn’t sign after UNT, UTSA and other’s offered. The fastest kid at SOC with a 10.47 time. -
Breaking: North Texas lands Louisiana Safety Transfer

My desire for the coaches is to recruit kids that are large enough for their position and/or fast enough for their position; in a better conference. Can we see an uptick from the Kids we have signed in past classes? We’re moving up a notch in a conference and should expect the caliber of players to compete and win at that level. Otherwise, we are kidding ourselves continuing to move lateral or backwards. I like the stated goal of staying local but not if the kids don’t check the boxes. I have a friend from NTSU in the Houston area. He drives up for at least one game annually. He continues to comment about how small and slow our guys are. I couldn’t agree more. Hopefully we don’t continue to fire coaches only to hire replacements that go after the same kids; with minimal offers or offers from inferior schools.- 61 replies

Just guessing but I would think Keith Smith is a target. He decommitted before this staff came together. Dylan Brown-Turner didn't have a great senior year; after the ACL his junior year.

Gilbert and Owens Effect in Recruiting
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I think the benefit will be with those kids desiring to transfer back to the area; after they realize the grass was not greener. They generally reach out to a trusted adviser including their HS school coach. The relationships/credibility the coach has with Coach O and Gilbert hopefully will be the difference. These guys just need to hit on 2-3 big names and I think the perception will change that UNT is a viable options other than SMU, TCU or UTSA -
Maybe not fair to the current QB’s and other guys still here but I desire a complete overhaul; as we have an FCS/DII roster. No honeymoon for the coaches and AD.

Everything starts and ends with recruiting. A number of games to go before we will know how well this 2022-2023 class is. At this time, I don’t see enough horses. Please play Christian Moore. This offense is brutal

His stock is down as JT hasn’t had a winning season in 4-5 years.

Keep this man away from the portal. 1st team All-Conference. Nice to have a legit big man; still improving. Would like to see more Christian Moore. Maybe the steal of the class -

Coach Morris on with David Smoak at 4 today.
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Seems like it may take 3 years just to get us back to where we are today. Wish Morris would lie to us by stating we are looking at national championships as the goal. Instead, he continues to limit us to a G5 program. UH, UCF and Cincinnati just graduated and moved up. It can happen. Why not UNT? Come on coach, inspire long suffering fans.- 22 replies

Breaking: Iowa States Matt Caponi New Mean Green DC

Any Iowa State DB’s in the portal? Would like to have had a Texas connection and/or DC experience at a known university. Anyone know if we’re looking at 3 or 4 man front? -

Some Positive Thoughts as NSD Approaches
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Come on ntexeagle. Was initially going to let this one slide. There were no star systems 50 years ago. There were no social media, twitter, facebook, HUDL. Rivals, 24/7 and other fan sites like today. Fans had to generally wait the next day. after signing day, to learn who their school signed. The Athletic Department provided an 800 number for fans to get a recording of who were signed on signing day. No question Milton was highly regarded as our best prospect ever to sign with North Texas. He was near the top of the Texas 100 lists with offers from most SWC schools. Don't think he would have been a 5 though. Maybe 4 based on similarities to Earl Campbell. Unfortunately the competition played at Blooming Grove, Tx was not the same at many other places. No disrespect, but couldn't let that one go right before Christmas. -
I don’t understand the infatuation with Emmett Jones. Followed the SOC program throughout his tenure. Was hired initially to TTech as someone to recruit SWDallas County (SOC, Duncanville, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, Carter and others) was able to bring SOC’s top defensive player to Tech and flipped him to KU when Jones was hired @ Kansas. Don’t see OC as an option. An outside the box name as a possible position coach is SOC’s current DC, Kyle Ward. Should be a hot commodity within the next few years. I am aware of opportunities that he has turned down. He has repeatedly stated that he is not chasing jobs. He is primarily the reason for SOC’s defensive success. Their offense has been brutal due to key injuries so they have had to rely on the defense. Has been an asst at A&M and maybe 2 others. A product of Kimball HS with strong relationships with Dallas area coaches.

I just want someone from the administration to clearly articulate the short and longe range expectation(s)/vision for all revenue generating sports/coaches. Though I have become increasingly disappointed with Jalie’s performance, I think it would be difficult to fire her, and others, when we have absolutely no defined standards of success and frequently reward mediocrity. As I have mentioned on here before, she is on pace to equal and/or exceed the performance of a recently inducted Hall of Fame Coach. We have a plethora of other examples of average to bad players and coaches in our Hall of Fame. This ritual continues annual without modification. Sanction some committee to address this madness. The Hall selection process appears to involve favoritism and politics; devoid of true honor. How did we allow the “Hit 6” as a measuring stick of success? We play 12 games. Or, extend coaches who take us to a bowl, when about 50 exist. Why do we allow media to dictate to us success; based on misleading stats? I know I’m rambling but frustrated with yet another coach/ AD hire when we don’t know what we want. I’m not a targeted donor but I know I would hesitate with yet another capital campaign request without clear performance objective. Mostly to buy some one out. Maybe I’m just the only one in the dark about “the plan”.

Morris Vision on What North Texas Can Be
Cooley replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Hopefully he has or will reach back out to Keith Smith. Not saying he will be 1st Team All Conference but he is a better player now than he was when first committed; a few months ago. His stock, I’m sure, is higher now in the eyes of other recruiters.
