  1. Lighten up Downtown! Posting what I read on another board (that some 6-4 kid chose PV over UNT) is not false information. PV and other SWAC schools were actually better than our 02-03 squad. Frankly, I was being nice by comparing this Mitchell kid to Jerome Rogers. (On paper) Jerome's numbers were much better coming out of high school and the D1 level if JJ would keep him on the floor. Jerome is a shooting guard playing the point. (combo) It sounds like Mitchell is also. Both are in the 5-10 - 6-0 range. Jerome can also explode with points in bunches. Rogers is also the quickest guard we have and would also average 2-3 steals a game. Moreover, Jerome played against some of the top competition in the state (Dallas Lincoln, Dallas SOC, Dallas Kimball & Ft Worth Dunbar to name a few) State Fair Mo Community College didn't really play a final four type schedule; going up against the likes of Moberly, Three Rivers, SW Mo. St (West Plains) and Mineral Area. Like I said previously, I hope I am wrong about this kid, however, I can only base my opinion on what we have done prior to now on the recruiting front (Ty Thomas, Lee Green, Ron Harris and Scott Roniger) Degrate actually committed to Trilli out of high school. Does the signing of Mitchell upgrade our talent? At the least put us on par with other Sun Belt schools? I invite you to any southern Dallas area Rec Center to find other Mitchell types who are as quick as TJ Ford (Thurgood Marshall, Beckley/Saner, MLK Center or Singing Hills) We have to do a better job recruiting. Mind you, we passed on Spud Webb. (not the current regime) SMU passed on Larry Johnson. TCU passed on Kenneth Lyons, UT passed on Keith Langford. Professionally, the Mavs passed on Karl Malone. Hell, Portland passed on Michael Jordon There's an abundance of proven talent in the area for us not to have to reach for kids.
  2. Granted I have not seen this kid play but how can we be impressed with him on paper. His bio is very similar to Jerome Rodgers. I believe Jerome will be a Jr as well. At least he has been in the system 2 years. Why do we need a scoring 6-0 combo guard? At this height, I prefer a true point guard with T J Ford quickness. I don't see how we have upgraded the point position. I noticed on another board that we lost out to Prairie View on another kid. (also considered SWTS & Sam Houston) Where's Vic Trilli when we need him during this time of the season? Oh well, I hope like hell I'm wrong.
  3. Thanks Oldtimer! Good stuff! You and Buford keep me lurking on this side.
  4. Roster looks good on paper! Does anyone know how recruiting is going? What positions? How many scholarships? Transfers/Walk Ons? Other than Masters, anyone with eligibility that won' be back? Go Texas Longhorns!
  5. Dandrick plays the 2 guard position. With a great need at PG, I can't see us going after a juco at the same position as Hopkins. Isn't the Watson kid a 2 as well?
  6. Island Eagle, have you seen this Watson kid play? Have you had a chance to see the 2002-2003 version of the Mean Green? Just curious to know if you think this kid is better than Ty Thomas and Ron Harris. Hate to see another 6-5 type that may not beat out what we have. Does anyone know what this other early signee at MCC is doing? (out of Lancaster High) Thanks!
  7. This team is void of a big time player. We have some talent, however, most of these guys are role players. On a very good team, none of these guys would start. Yet alone, get significant playing time. Unfortunately for the team, Chris Davis is having a terrible senior campaign. He is a turnover or bad shot ready to happen. I agree with other posters, JJ is not getting the job done on the recruiting front. I know about the Injuries; they are a part of the game. When I looked up the other night and saw Boxell and Chiles at the guard positions, I couldn't imagine this was D1 basketball. Bring on the LSU kid! If the guy can play, I welcome him. If he can't, then we need to stay away from him. This team is playing like Darrell Dickey's first 2-3 years. (the crowds have been understandably disappointing) If this program doesn't improve soon, JJ may need to borrow a page from Trilli's book of how to free up scholarships. Can you tell I'm a little frustrated? Jerome Rodgers is your point guard Johnny! Let's look to other options and/or sit Chris Davis down when he is playing poorly. Go Tampa Bay!

  10. I hope most poster don't really believe that kids sign with UNT because this is their first and only love. Ask coach Fran if he and other coaches aren't constanting looking for better situations. To Erskin's credit, he took a risk by walking on at UT opposed to taking another sure scholarship at another D1 school.
  11. Metroplex Champs (2002-2003) Oops, SMU just got another rebound! Guys we need help bad under the boards. Outstanding game by Jerome Rodgers. This kid grew up tonight. Clearly, the best point guard on the floor. Good game by SMU's Q. Ross, the only legitimate pro prospect. (Dallas Kimball ) I won't name names, but I was truly dissapointed in 3 of our guys. Oops! UNT just commited another foul.

  14. All the NBA experts felt that he would have been the #1 pick in the 2002 draft if he had left school (yes, ahead of Yao Ming). Can't disagree about his parents, however, their situation is totally different than 99.9% of most families. I would imagine that it would be difficult for me to delay a 20-30 million dollar signing bonus when I had never had any money. They still offer GED programs don't they?
  15. Excellent updates Buford. Thanks! Any rumors on other possible signees?

  24. Gosh guys, I'm not a David Fisher fan. This kid will tease you with his athletic ability but lacks basic basketball fundamentals. For every good play he makes, he will commit a dumb mistake or turnover. He slashes to the bucket effectively but often does not finish the play or commit a charge. Fisher was a highly touted sophomore but has not shown much improvement. It's amazing how kids grow 2-3 inches over a summer. This kid is only 6-5 and maybe a tweener for the 3 position. Not much of an outside threat but may make a shot. SOC should again be a good team with good players. They however lack a great player. IMHO, Fisher is a low level D1 prospect. (SFA, UTA type). I hope he improves significantly over his Soph & Jr campaign, however guys, don't get your hopes up too high on this one.
  25. Does anyone know whatever happened to Denton Ryan's Matalya McBeth? Where is she now? Is is possible that we could get her back? Unless someone was killed, let's get her back!
