  1. What a great last 3 months in Mean Green athletic history. (Football & Basketball)
  2. If Jerry Jones really wanted this stadium in Dallas it would be going up in Dallas. The Cowboys came to Dallas with an ultimatum up front. Jones was talking to every town that would listen. I grew up not far from the Cotton Bowl and went to most home games free with an adult. I would have loved for them to have done the deal in Fair Park. Jones insisted on the 350 million from Dallas with no questioned asked of him. He cut off negotiations before the city counsel could even be briefed on the issue. Jones should have known that Laura Miller was anti-sports financed stadiums (with tax payer money) by her stance on the AAC. The counsel would have easily voted to take this to the voters. Arlington didn't have to concern itself with the sales tax cap that Dallas had on because of DART. Additionally, Dallas could afford the strap the hotel and rental car industry with another tax. These thing could have been worked out but not prior to the drop dead date of that Jones imposed. It's ironic now that Jones is asking the City of Dallas to be the lead dog in helping recruit the Super Bowl to North Texas. Roger Staubach is his hand picked negotiator for the Cowboys with the city of Dallas. Dallas is insisting on hosting the official Super Bowl parties and being reimbursed for its share of expenses. Thank you Mayor Cluck of Arlington for helping fund the stadium in your town. Most of your area residents will never step foot in the stadium but will help the folks in Dallas play host to the out of towners as they stay in finer hotels and spend big money in Big D. Now if you can now help Jerry put a winning product on the field!
  3. While I would have liked for the new stadium to have been built in Downtown Dallas, it is not a great loss for the city of Dallas, nor the Cotton Bowl game. North Texans must look beyond what's good for individual cities but what's best for the region. Folks outside of the metroplex will still travel to Dallas and stay in the hotels and eat within the Dallas city limits. They will come for the Super Bowl, Final Four and other big time attractions but stay, dine and party in Big D. Yes, Arlington benefits somewhat but they will pick up the entire tab (while Dallas reaps benefits as well) Another thing, Jerry Jones didn't care where this stadium was built. He was looking for the city that would bend over first. If he was serious about negotiations with Dallas, he would not have approached Laura Miller and Margaret Kelleher first. Dallas is a city counsel run government. Laura Miller has only 1 of 15 votes. Jerry Jones and consultant Rob Allyn knew this. Jerry Jones flirted with the city of Dallas just long enough to entice Arlington to step up to the plate. The stadium will still be in the metroplex. Everyone wins! Lastly, Downtown Dallas, though historically dead at night, has major plans in the works. Thousands of residents are moving down there as older building are being renovated into housing. There is growth south of I30 into the Cedars Area. Dart has plans to add more lines. Though a recent break down took place for a minor league park, Dallas has plans to add a stadium there. With the Victory project, it will rejuvenate the near by West End area. One shouldn't just judge the core of Downtown Dallas but the areas around it. Uptown continues to grow in leaps and bounds along with Victory Park. Expansion is starting to spread across I-35 into the Design District. Work on the bridges extending Woodall Rogers Freeway to I-30 will begin this summer. The Trinity River project will be a great addition to the area which again will attract most tourist to the area while they drive over to Arlington on game day. The city, though delayed, will add a 1,000 + hotel to the Dallas Convention Center. It may not open earlier enough for major conventions before 2012 but it is on the way. Ask any major developer around the country where the hotest area is? Downtown will open a House of Blues sometime this summer bringing major entertainment to the Downtown core. Plans are also underway to put a top over Woodall Rogers Frwy to connect Uptown to Downtown Dallas. Crains are dotting the entire area with future development in and around the area. These are great times for Downtown Dallas. These thinks are happening despite Laura Miller
  4. Kevin had the best performance at last weekends Dallas Morning News Classic with 35. Undersized 2 guard at 6-0. Was Kevin Busby until this year when he picked up Donnell's last name. The second best performance was from Nolan Dennis, younger brother of UNT redshirt transfer Collin Dennis. Unfortunately, Nolan is a national recruit from Richland. Kid is 6-5 and can play the point or 2. Can flat out play! February 19, 2007 Blue Zertuche TexasHoops.com Recruiting Analyst Kevin Busby-Hayden seems to be improving by each passing game, but the 6'1" combo guard from Dallas Spruce hasn't received the type of respect from the recruiters that he deserves. This past weekend at the Dallas ISD Classic, Busby-Hayden gave the fans a game to remember against Dallas Carter in which he scored a career high, 35 points. If you haven't seen him play yet, there is still time as Spruce receives a free pass to the second round of the playoffs in Region 2-4A. Busby-Hayden is averaging 14 points and 4 assist per game. "We played good, and played great D. We shut them down at the end," said Busby-Hayden after their 77-68 victory over the Cowboys. "We need to work harder to make it to state. That is our goal." Before the game, Busby-Hayden had a few words for his head coach, Lyndon Love. "He told me that it has been four years since we've tried to get into this showcase, and he's going to give our team something special." Love says that Busby-Hayden can turn the switch on during any game, but does a great job of getting everyone involved. "He can score like this every night, but he is so unselfish. The coaching staff, we sometimes get on him for passing the ball too much and passing up shots. He is an All-State performer and is as good as anyone around here." Even with the victory, Love sees the area that needs improvement if the Timberwolves are to advance in the playoffs. "We need to do a better job of rebounding and not turn the ball over. It's a one game season and we are going to get back into the gym and how ever it comes out, we will have to see." As the games get bigger, Busby-Hayden takes his game to another level. He hopes that offers and more attention will come along with it. "North Texas, American University, and Colin County are looking at me, but I have no offers." Busby-Hayden really likes what North Texas has to offer with its location and conference. But there is another reason why he would love to play there. "My father went to school there and played." Busby-Hayden states that he is a qualifier. Dallas Spruce will play the winner of Waxahachie and Waco University. Texas Hoops Analysis:KEVIN is a combo guard that runs the point very well, he is heady with the ball, makes good decisions, moves without the ball, has a good understanding of the game, will get the ball to the open man, runs the run, is a good defender, has a soft outside stroke, will penetrate and pull-up for a mid-range jumper.
  5. Change in Plans for Fulce January 25, 2007 Don't blame Joseph Fulce if he is feeling a little strange right now. After all, it seems that the slashing 6-foot-7, 180-pound swingman originally from Plano thought he has known forever where he'd be playing his college ball, even if it meant going for an extra year of prep school. But change can happen sometimes, and that's what Fulce is facing - and it's something the young man now at Massanuetten Military Academy in Virginia is ready to take on. "Right now, I'm re-opening my recruitment," Fulce said. "I'm looking at everything again and everything is going pretty good, so I want to look at my options. Ever since I moved out to the East Coast I've gotten a different perspective of the game and there's a lot of things that are hard to explain. But I just felt that I needed to look at my options again." Fulce - who was one of the first members from the state's Class of 2006 to make a commitment when he made a pledge to Texas A&M at the end of his junior season at Plano - added that opening up his recruitment has nothing to do with his relationship with the Aggies program. "I have nothing against A&M, and I've talked to Coach G (Billy Gillespie) and let him know that," Fulce said. "It's all good - I just felt that I needed to re-open things." The news of Fulce's availability is less than a week old and already schools have been in contact. "So far, I've heard from Illinois, Texas Tech, Maryland, George Mason, UNC-Wilmington, and Cincinnati," Fulce said. "Illinois for sure has offered and there are other schools I want to talk to and make it all legit. I'll probably know more within the next two-three weeks. It's only been a few days and a lot of schools are calling, so there are a lot of things for me to find out about." For Fulce, it's an interesting period since it's been a awhile since he was getting chased by schools. "It's been a long time," Fulce said. "This time, I'm going to look at a place that still fits my style of play - a quick tempo, a really quick team that likes to run. And defensively, somewhere that's good as well. I'm looking at a lot of stuff - and this time I'll have a better perspective." Fulce isn't opposed to going away from home for college, but wouldn't mind staying in the Lone Star State either. "I wouldn't mind being close to home, as there are a lot of good schools there," Fulce said. "But I wouldn't mind going away from home either." The beginning of the spring signing period is a couple of months away, so Fulce doesn't want to waste any time with his brand new recruiting situation. "I'll probably take a visit pretty soon - probably in the next three weeks," Fulce said. "I'm not sure with who yet, but I've only got about 60 days before I have to decide at the end of March and the beginning of April. So I've got a lot of work to do - and I still have to deal with school, the military stuff, and all that. I'm hoping to do what I can." Texas Hoops Analysis: JOSEPH is a fluid athlete who glides to the hole and finishes with very good body control in the lane. He has a nice stroke from 16 feet and can hit the 3 point shot. He runs the floor well, is active without the ball, has good hands, is a nice rebounder and has a long and lean basketball build.
  6. G. Vizza (10 inch headlines) is the starting quarterback in September by default! He is Todd Dodge's #1 hand picked recruit; that played the identical system at Alamo Heights. Throw out any prior experience of Meager & Phillips (under Darrell Dickey) Woody Wilson would be the ideal fit but his accuracy is suspect. (he's clearly #2) Meager looks like a very good extra point and field goal holder candidate while Phillips would be an awesome clip board holder. No one knows anything about Tune. Last note: Riley Dodge will sign on with Dad. Let's not even start a dog and pony show with his recruitment! Riley Dodge IS NOT a BCS quarterback and it would be the ultimate slap in the face of North Texas and Todd Dodge for him to select SMU or TCU types over UNT. How in the hell can Todd Dodge sell North Texas to other high school kids (and parents) when young Riley feels that our program is beneath similar D1 programs. Todd Dodge has already got this done!

  15. I love the color and the mascot.
  16. Trey Baysinger is the younger brother of Al Baysinger. Al never played at NT. He was on the verge of signing/committing to NT but then signed with OU. Actually played well for OU and was a 2-3 year starter at offensive tackle. This kid is not fat at all. Very bow legged. (sp) Hatch was their best lineman and top recruit at center. Also plays center on the basketball team. Loggins is only about 280 and played mostly at defensive tackle. Would be a nice pickup. Not sure of possible grade issues with any of them. The other Carter kids aren't players. The kid from Berkner committed to SMU and the Trinity kid I believe committed to an out of state school.
  17. Anthony "Spud" Webb of Wilmer-Hutchins was a 12 year NBA player. The highlight of Spud's career was the 1986 All-Star Weekend Slam Dunk contest in his hometown Dallas, where he was crowned the the dunk champion. Spud attended Midland J.C. and later moved on to North Carolina State University. He was drafted in the fourth round by Detroit and later was moved to Atlanta, where he started his career. (Spud verbally committed to North Texas' coach Bill Blakeley, who was later fired) New coach Tommy Newman informed Spud that his style would not be a fit in Newman's slower paced structured offense.
  18. Count me in with the growing number of alums who thinks that it will be time for a change (at season's end) if this team doesn't advance to the conference championship. I disagree with most who feel that JJ has been an outstanding recruiter. If you leave our D1 transfers from other programs out of the mix, his recruiting has been bad. Anyway, there is still adequate talent to not get blown out by any of these current Sunbelt schools. We are missing a golden opportunity becuase there are no dominate belt teams as in the past. What's sad is that I have always pointed to the 07-08 season as THE potential breakout year. (where we would finally have a nice number of transfers together; coupled with another 2-3 ships to play with. With what I have seen thus far, I'm not sure anymore. 22. I guess I was the only Dennis Parker fan! I had no problem with the hiring and the job he did. He had just won the Class 5A State Championship. I thought he did a very good recruiting job. If my memory is correct, he brought in Luis Silva from Judson. He feel in love with this QB from Plano that nearly beat his Marshall team and recruited him to NT. (Mitch Maher (sp) He also brought his top (highly recruited) players with him. DL Willis Hudson, Stanley Jackson & others. His best prospect (Quincy Clouch) was one of the states top recruits but didn't have the grades to come to NT. Unlike Darrell Dickey, the guy pulled out all the stops to stay competitive. The administration, like had been the case with other coaches, never game the guy a chance (because of his HS background) If he had been given 9 years, like a recent coach (without prior HC experience) he would have been very successful. Parker was HS coach of the year and very influential within the TX HS ranks. His popularity was ever bit that of Todd Dodge. I don't consider Dennis Parker a mistake! I remember calling the athletic department on National Signing Day. Parker answered the phone and when asked if he had signed a local kid that had commited to NT, Parker ran down the entire signing class for me. Was a very christian man which is what attracted Maher to NT.
  23. I felt Bruce Chambers was a horrible coach at Dallas Carter. He had been the defensive coordinator to previous coach Freddie James. Carter, without question, had the best and most talent in the country at the time. Bruce was at the right place at the right time. Mack Brown, new to UT, knew that he had to get into Dallas Carter, thus the hiring of Bruce. I've known Bruce since our days at North Texas State, where he was best friends with fellow NT great, Malcolm Jones. I've recently worked closely with a cousin of his the last 2-3 years. Though I've been a huge Dallas Carter fan, I've never considered Bruce head coaching material. He's a home boy and all, but I'd pass. By the way, his salary at UT is about $130,000. Moreover, the DISD administrators and fellow coaches (that were around during his day) have moved on. He does, however, know the area.
