  1. Averaged 16.8 points, 6.3 rebounds & 2.4 assists. No. 75 Juco prospect per @JucoRecruiting .
  2. So is the program actually better off today, after Hodge, than what McCasland left 3 years ago? i.e., championships, growth in attendance, roster, marketability (team profile)?
  3. Kid is very athletic and a phenomenal shot blocker. Posted something on him 2 years ago after a game against SOC; during the Xmas holiday tournament. Not much offense but a great finisher.
  4. I can’t begin to tell you how talented D/FW basketball is compared to other regions around the country. Again, I see at least 3 kids going in the 2-Round NBA draft lottery in 3 months. 1) Trey Johnson (Lake Highlands/UT) 2) JT Toppins (Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy/New Mexico/Texas Tech) 3) Liem Stevenson (Richardson/UConn) https://www.reportingtexas.com/how-dallas-became-a-hotbed-of-high-school-basketball-recruiting/
  5. Don’t know if his 6-8 freshman son can play but he averaged about 5.5 pts and 3 boards. According to the coach, he did t have any superstars last year. I think Ross Hodge recommended him.
  6. Why not just play the game at a closer venue to keep the game local. SMU's Moody Coliseum is available.
  7. Courtesy of Google.com That's the official window when players can enter the portal. Once they're in, they can take visits, talk to coaches, and commit even after the window closes. The 2024-25 season was the last season for players using the extra year of eligibility given to them by NCAA due to COVID. How Many Players Enter the Portal? The number has grown every year. In 2023, over 1,800 Division I men's basketball players entered the transfer portal, and last year it was over 2,000, an average of nearly 5.5 per program. That number is expected to decrease somewhat in 2025, mostly due to fewer fifth-year and sixth-year transfers on the market. The 2024-25 season was the last season for players using the extra year of eligibility given to them by NCAA due to COVID. There will still be a few super-veterans out there who compounded the COVID year with redshirt seasons, but overall, the number of transfers should be down slightly. How Many Roster Spots Does Each Team Have? Beginning in the 2025-26 academic year, scholarship limits will be eliminated for Division I sports, including basketball. Instead, teams will be governed by a roster limit of 15 players. Schools will have the flexibility to offer scholarships to all 15 players on the roster if they choose, effectively making basketball an equivalency sport where partial or full scholarships can be distributed among the players up to the roster cap. There are different rules for players on teams with coaching changes. Players in a program where a coach has been fired or left will be given 30 days to enter the transfer portal. Who would I like the Mean Green to target? · Justin McBride 6-8, 230 Nevada (Plano HS) **** · Doryan Onwuchekwa 6-10, 240 Georgia Tech (Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy) **** · Ebrahim Kaba 6-9, 200 St Bonaventure (Visited UNT in 2023) · Lane Taylor, 5-11 PG Central Arkansas (backed out of UNT NLI) The flood gate opens tomorrow for kids whose season is already over.
  8. The 3-point shot for colleges went in to effect the 1986-1987 season. Now substitute all 3 pointers for 2 pointers and rank him to all guys before 86-87. I'm a "hell no" to an already watered down NT Hall of Fame.
  9. Would be a soph. portal transfer. Right now, we have 0 point guards for 25-26. I really liked the kid but many times ego gets in the way of making the right decision. Probably would have bumped Floyd from the starting spot or at least taken some minutes. Might have been a defensive liability but his play making ability would compensate. Reminds me of a poor man's Mark Price. (who they listed as 5-11 or 6-0) I think Mason and Cotton would have averaged 17 ppg. as freshmen as well at Central Arkansas.
  10. I know that Parker brought some of his kids with him from Marshall High (or transfer from Marshall): Willis Hudson, Lorenzo Washington, Stacey Anderson. The star was Trency Clough but his went another route prior to signing day. Benny Valentine was the QB that I think we signed via transfer.
  11. As they say in the business, "We got a Steal"! Young lady looks like a potential WNBA pick. Hope all goes well for her at UNT first. I think her HS is in a lower classification because her game is more advanced than her competition (most games). Just finished watching a game against Benton, LA on Feb. 20, 2025. (NFHS Network) Looked to have scored about 30. Hope it doesn't hurt her average too much. #2 Ranked 2025 recruit in the state. https://allstatesugarbowl.org/news/2025/2/5/spencer-AOM.aspx https://www.lgrbasketball.com/2025-rankings Go Mean Green
  12. Yes, expanded the number of champions for each classification
  13. Thomas' #2 ranked Allen Eagles season came to an end last night by falling to underdog Duncanville; in the last 42 seconds. Duncanville returns to the big school State Championship this Saturday in San Antonio. The matchup was one for the ages in front of a sold out Coppell HS. Full disclosure, I had only been moderately impressed with Thomas most of the year. Kid stepped it up a notch late in the season and throughout the playoffs. Still don't consider him an impact type guy but can see him getting some meaningful minutes. (thought the same thing about freshmen Cotton & Mason) Congratulations to Denton Guyer for advancing to state for the first time in school history. The UIL expanded the playoffs this year by adding a 2nd state championship bracket, in each classification. (Similar to football) Go Mean Green
  14. Nick Saban, head coach of North Texas Wasn't aware of any of the candidates, but was told that Nick Saban was our #1 guy to become the next Head Coach after the firing of Corky Nelson. Saban came to Denton for his final interview but the money wasn't quite right. We instead settled on Dennis Parker. Can anyone confirm? From a very reliable source
  15. My #1 signal QB who gets absolutely no love here. Played during the era of the running game; while taking all snaps under center. Pre-Air Raid. Lead the team to the last national ranking in D1. Number 19 in your program but #1 in your heart. https://meangreensports.com/honors/north-texas-athletics-hall-of-fame/ken-washington/91 https://meangreensports.com/news/2018/8/30/football-unt-great-washington-sees-himself-in-fine
  16. I've had a chance to watch full games of the 3 bigs. (NFHS) Stanley looked the best. One other played a horrible game.
  17. Maybe Laynee Stanley? https://www.hudl.com/video/3/18679206/660ca83cdf35b386e7ade8f3
  18. Wrong Tac. I think they are related but the Adhel Tac you are talking about is a 6-5 redshirt freshman at South Carolina. Missed 1 or 2 years of HS because of injuries. I believe UNT's Tac is the sister of Acheil Tac from a few years ago (under Jalie Mitchell) Both attended Sachse HS in Garland. Confusing. Personal Has one brother and five sisters who all played or currently play college basketball ... Oldest sister, Acheil, played at UNT from 2012-16 ... Agang Tac played under Jason Burton at Texas A&M-Commerce from 2017-21 before transferring to Texas Women's University ... Younger sister, Adhel, is a redshirt freshman at South Carolina.
  19. Was at SOC the entire season in 2024. Don't see him being heavily recruited
  20. Can't do that and won't. Why would you match McCasland and not bring in more asses? Grant McCasland, the head men's basketball coach at Texas Tech University, is scheduled to make $3.9 million in the 2024-2025 season. This is an increase from the original $2.95 million figure. McCasland's salary increases by $100,000 each year.
  21. He was rewarded with the job; without a search. Great job thus far but less than 2 years on the job is still risky. If he's hired away, we just have to find someone else willing to be paid $700k. We don't have the money to get crazy. I believe in heavy incentive-laden contracts to supplement the base. Different sport but Deion Sanders sells the house out and has brought much national attention to the program. His impact has paid for an increase/extension Our basketball attendance hasn't increased enough to support a meaningful increase. (yet)
  22. I'd bump his base a bit but let's see how the season plays out. Also, some coaches are incented on attendance as well. Not sure we can sustain success bringing in mostly seniors each year and not developing underclassmen.
