I like 4 of the 5 recruits. The other one is a wasted scholarship. In fact, the worst signee I think we have ever had. Sorry, just my opinion.

Kevin Henry-Jennings: South Oak Cliff QB
Cooley replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
According to 24/7, Farrar committed to UNT on April 5, 2021 (offered on March 31, 2021) Still at Skyline High SMU offered Jennings on December 8, 2021 Preston Stone signed on Dec. 16, 2020 and enrolled on Jan. 21, 2021. Dallas Morning News Rhett Lashlee didn’t have any previous knowledge of Henry-Jennings when he was hired as the next head coach at SMU. In fact, when he and some other SMU coaches went to the regional final against Lovejoy on Dec. 4, they were there to look at other players. After the first quarter, Henry-Jennings had caught his attention. What stood out to Lashlee the most wasn’t Henry-Jennings’ athleticism — though he has plenty of it — but the way he threw the ball. Like NFL receivers at Robinson’s camp saw before the season, Lashlee saw someone who could make every throw, and do it with accurate touch. Henry-Jennings completed 18 of 25 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for two touchdowns, leading South Oak Cliff to the state semifinals for the first time since 1970. “All those things, seeing it in person, we just walked away thinking it made sense,” Lashlee said. Lashlee hopped on a FaceTime four days later and offered Henry-Jennings a scholarship. He visited SMU that weekend, committed on a Sunday and then signed with the Mustangs on Wednesday. -

He was only recruited as a reserve; mainly to get in on the SOC/Dallas pipeline. (15 minutes away). Their guy was 4-Star QB Preston Stone of Parish Episcopal. Stone was injured and hasn't performed up to expectations. Jennings exceeded expectations. Not great but effective. -
New Commit....Cahmai Crosby, combo guard......Kilgore JC

Well, not a lot to go on other than the attached video on Crosby. Haven't found an entire game yet. This staff has done a great job with juco pickups over the years, so I can't question this one. Curious why the lack of quality offers though. The Thomas signing is ok considering he just started his senior season in high school. He looks a legit 6-7 with a very good body build. He could develop his game more but he is not the "great" recruit as advertised. I have subscribed to NFHS for a number of years now and recently saw his playoff game against Plano East last year. He's an above average HS center (presently) on a loaded Allen team. I'm sure we signed him to play the 4 as he does not have a perimeter game. Wish we had signed DJ Hall of Plano East who is better. Kid signed with Texas State as their highest recruit ever. Never saw any UNT offers. -

My bad. I think I goggled the date and got a previous year. Still somewhat puzzled about a verbal commitment during the live early signing period. Maybe he has been committed for sometime but we just learned of it. On another note, a year late for the Dallas Wings to get the #1 pick (Caitlin Clark). I'm happy about Page Bueckers though. -

Why did he not sign, or did he? The early signing period just ended Friday. -
The Eagles didn't fly

His brother is not all that

Looks good on tape -
Congrats to all! I wasn't able to view or listen to the game but read that Minnesota had 3 guys out. Were they starters, reserves or both?

Memphis's Tyreek Smith Hits Portal Hours Before Opener
Cooley replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I agree with your agreement but again, we just signed 3 guys with 1 year of eligibility left. Times have changed. Some school(s) will jump on him feeling that he hasn't been convicted of any rapes, 34 felony counts or incited any riots; where folks were killed. Fans won't care about his character if he can help a school win. -
Didn't say they committed a bunch of turnovers but they looked very shaky to me with the ball. Just the first game so we'll see against better opponents.

The thing that stood out to me is the lack of a good point guard. When pressured, all these guys were shaky. Where was the freshman center Baron Smith?

Memphis's Tyreek Smith Hits Portal Hours Before Opener

I'd take him from a talent standpoint in a heart beat. He's from Baton Rouge but attended Trinity Christian Academy (Cedar Hill) where he lead them to their private school's state championship. I really wanted him at UNT but he signed with Texas A&M. We are starting to bring in a number of 1 year players as well, so why not. Great rebounder and shot blocker at 6-9. Don't really think there would be mutual interest though. -

They are a Charter school. Like a few others, they are allowed students from all over. What’s hard for the UIL is to determine if they are actively recruiting kids. In today’s times, parents desire to place their kids at schools that give Jimmy the best place to succeed. This is a slippery slope because suburban schools get more kids than anyone; facilities, exposure, academics etc. The HS coach generally is the person that checks a box that a kid is transferring for athletic reasons. If so, the district committee has to approve it. When a program wins, scrutiny follows. When they dont win, no one gives a damn. Southlake Carroll had 4 starting girls to transfer. Their coach believe they were recruited. DeSoto lost all their top prospects to Faith Family. A new Charter school in Ft Worth has assembled an all star lineup. At the least, Charters should be ineligible for UIL titles and/or play at the highest level.

No need for anyone to get bent out of shape on this one. Spruiells was always going to be a 3rd or 4th team DB option. Whatever happened didn't help. Makes sense for him to return back to FCS. Northern Arizona was his best offer of only a few coming out of HS. (Can't be more than 5-6, 160)
-
Was not aware of his transfer as well. Kid changes schools every year. (Greenhill, Plano Prestonwood, Oak Hill Academy and now Argyle). If true, he would team well with 6-9 Kash Polk to form a nice front line. The UIL is scheduled to discuss Oak Cliff Faith Family this Friday. More than likely, they will force them to move up to 6A (from 5A)or not play other UIL schools. If eligible, they should be the favorites in 5A for the state championship.

Yeah, but the star system wasn’t always around. Additionally, an era of passing the ball around vs the running game. Can’t compare QB’s equally. Top ranked Riley Dodge Spencer Stack Ken Washington Jr. What does underdog story mean? Ambassador/Leadership? How about Ken Washington Jr. as the #1 QB in Texas. At only 5-10 being told we don’t won’t a black quarterback by every SW Conference school and that you are too short. Riley Dodge was also told that he was too small. I liked Fine. Great passer but wasn’t good under pressure and couldn’t run to extend possessions.
