  1. I think our attendance and competitivness on the field go hand in hand. We were posting solid attendance numbers until we went on the road and tried to run the option out of the endzone against Troy. After that game our fans didn't really come out.
  2. You forgot about attendance. We have to have more people show up. 18,000 a game isn't going to help us improve our standing on the college football landscape. In fact, what attendance average would make other conferences take notice?
  3. I totally agree with your post. We have to do more. I am almost 100% sure the SEC has no interst in us other then scheduling some bodybag games, but they see the $60,000,000 in profit the Big 10 network earned last year, and can speculate about how much more it will earn from expanding into new markets after the shake-up. I think the SEC wants a network too. With that kind of money out there, if they don't, they should. If they can't have Texas, then the won't get A&M. The state makes those two a package deal. Would the SEC hold its nose and take UNT and Houston, in order to maximize profits in an SEC network? Shouldn't we at least bring it to their attention? Are there two better markets in the south, that would bring more T.V.s to an SEC network? We need to market our program better, and play to our strengths in this current environment, which is the additional revenue our media market would bring to the schools of the SEC, not what our university's performance brings.
  4. The focus of this topic is not what the Big 12 has, everyone knows what they have, the question is should the SEC move in? I think they should.
  5. UT and A&M dominate the Houston and Dallas markets, because there is no other BCS conference in Texas, and they have old successful programs. Also, will ESPN, ABC, FOX Sports, or CBS really care if these cities are in Big 12 turf? The SEC, ACC, and Big East all have a team in Florida. Why should the Big 12 have sole control of Texas? A&M and Texas are not even located in the local Houston or DFW T.V. viewing areas. Adding these 2 markets could really increase the SEC's T.V. money when they sign a new deal.
  6. From what I've been reading, the conference expansions seem to be driven by generating more money through T.V. deals, increasing the gap between the auto bid conferences and the mid-majors, and possibly creating a framework for a playoff. The Big 10 and PAC 10 are expected to act first. After that the Big East and Big 12 will want to replace their lost teams, but I can't see the ACC or SEC sitting back and letting them reload. I think a more likely sitiation will be the ACC trying pick the bones of what used to be the Big East. I don't think the SEC will want to expand into the north, so they would probably try to attract teams from a weaker Big 12, but I don't think they get any. If increasing the T.V. money through adding top markets to keep up with the Big 10, is the greatest issue driving the SEC expansion, then could they end up inviting Houston and North Texas? The conference could afford to take the hit in the competition area because it is the strongest, they would add the number 5 and 10 T.V. markets in the country, both are large state school, and they'd play more games in front of Texas recruits. I know it sounds crazy, but I think it could be a possibility. Any thoughts?
  7. That wasn't a TCU shirt. It was an ACU (Abilene Christian University) shirt. They are purple too.
  8. The Goodyear, We'll Sell You Some New Tires to Replace the Ones Stolen While You Watched this Crappy Matchup Bowl.
  9. The inequity of the T.V. revenue within the Big12 should have the conference worried about its ability to keep its current members, and attract new ones. Its ability to replace members, with quality schools, will be challenging because most quality universities will also be courted by other conferences, with better systems for sharing revenue. The question is will Texas be willing to concede a share of its very profitable T.V. revenue for the greater good of the conference? I don't think so.
  10. SMU has also shown they will throw out money to buy marquee players too, which is why I can't see the other Texas schools wanting them anywhere near the Big 12.
  11. TCU is not going to get a Big 12 invite. The Big 12 does'nt want or need a small private school, even if they are winning. TCU is alot like Houston, the Big 12 teams don't want to fight TCU for the top DFW recruits.
  12. If this is true, then I see it playing out this way. The MWC will add Boise State. The Big 12 will probably take Colorado State. I think the North division will have a large say in adding a team from their region. Sorry Houston, but the Big 12 South teams don't want to fight you for the top Houston recruits. The state of Colorado is already familiar with Big 12 games being on TV, and I don't think the Big 12 wants to invest money building up a new market, in this economy. I think the MWC will add UTEP because they are the best avalable option in their region. Yes, I think UTEP did leave the MWC to join C-USA, but when that happened, the two conferences were not all that different. Now the MWC is a more highly thought of conference, and I think UTEP would jump at the chance to play BYU, Boise, and NewMexico. New Mexico is alomst like adding another home game every other year. The question becomes, who would fill the open spot in the C-USA west? I think it would be between UNT and LA Tech. We have an emerging mid-major basketball power, and are building a new $78 million football palace. Most of our athletic facilities are new, and we have designs and a location, for building a new baseball stadium in the next few years. And we have DFW. What does LA Tech have? I like our chances, becuse I don't think SMU will have enough support to keep us out, should they want to. Between NT and LA Tech, I think Tulsa, Rice, and Houston would all support us.
  13. I'm not that picky. I'll take a national TV game any way I can get it. I'd trade numbers on our home attendance for a chance to shine on the big stage. After what I've seen from our team this Spring, I like our chances in the Army game alot more then I did a few months ago. Of course I may feel diferently after playing Clemson and Rice.
  14. Bennie Jones has been impressing me since last spring. I hope he sees the field this years. I was disapointed Attaberry didn't kick any field goals today. He can really boom 'em.
  15. I think so. Canales is using more of the field then we have in the past. I'm impressed with what I've seen so far, but I've only seen it against our defense. I think we'll prpbably see 5 or 6 TDs in the Spring Game tomorrow; a few on the ground, and a few through the air. I'm not knocking our D. With all the new guys and injuries, they need time to gell. I think this years defense is more athletic then last season's D.
  16. Thanks for trying. I'll keep digging around.
  17. A while back someone posted the layout of the course, but now I can't find the it. Also, a copy of the old scorecard was posted. I can't find that one either. Would someone with better knowledge of these topics be kind enough to repost this information for me? I would be grateful for any help you can provide. Thank you.
  18. I agree Thompson looked very good, especially when he should be a redshirt freshman. Great size, fairly strong arm, good speed for his size, and better decision making then I was expecting. Anyone know who that giant left tackle was? He was wearing 71.
  19. The scrimage was nice. I can't tell much about the team yet, but I did like seeing double tight end formations, and motion. Benny Jones looked even better then last Spring. He did a great job of making the catch with defenders on him, and also creating seperation. Byrd played some RB. He must have graduated early. He already looks like a college back. Some starters didn't see much action. I only saw Dunbar on one play, and he lined up in the slot on it. Riley didn't play at all. We did have recruits at the scrimage. I met one from Cedar Hill, and one from Navaro JC. I'm sure some others guys may have caught things that I missed. It was fun.
  20. You guys played your hearts out today, and left it all on the court. I couldn't be more proud of a North Texas team. Thank you for a great season. Joe
  21. I can't wait for spring ball to start. Reading about other programs practices is fine, but I want to see our team, and how they look after a full year with our strength coach. And I want to see what impact Canales and his playbook will have on our offense.
  22. I stopped by the site today on my way back home from the driving range. It's starting to look like a bowl now. Anyone who is coming in for the Spring Game, will be very happy when they see the worksite.
  23. I think the Lycium would be a good size and easier for students who stay on campus during Spring Break. The Pourhouse patio won't look like a good idea if it rains.
  24. I'll play. You'll be amazed by my 4.1 speed... ...in the 20.
  25. It's really great to see the North Texas men get the big splash on the ESPN home page. I hope we are the Cinderella team of the tourny. Those teams upset the top seeds and go deep.
