At a time when our fan base is fragmented and angry, the athletic department passes on a chance to hit a homerun and energize the fan base. This public version of the report reveals nothing we don't already know. I would prefer no public report to this report.
-
Program, Yes. Team, I don't think so.
-
I agree. I'm ok with the angry fans. At least they care. If the most someone can give is wearing an old UNT shirt around Dallas and listening to the games on their radio, I'm cool with that. At least we are their team. I think we can disagree and still be on the same side, because we all want what is best for North Texas.

I knew many of the casual fans would pack it up, but never thought so many die hards would consider staying home. I hope those thinking about calling it a season make it out for the ULL game. What would it take to change your minds?

Logic tells me we have lost too many parts of our team to have a successful season. As much as I hope this team pulls out a win in Boca, I just can't see it happening. Everyone that pays attention to the attendance of FBS football programs is rightfully expecting our attendance to take a nose dive after our run of bad luck, and the season that will probably result in part from it. I hope we will continue to show up in respectable numbers for the games. Along with the new stadium, our support for this program, even in such lean years, has been our greatest gain in the last five years. I don't want the program to lose that support. I hope RV will send a message to the fan base that will calm the mood a little, and unite us. I don't know what that might be. I'll let you guys speculate on that. Before the Army game many of us stated that our team needed a spark. We didn't get one. Now the entire Mean Green Nation needs a spark. I hope we get one. If we don't, I'm sure some within our fan base will be "going to the mattresses". Also, I think we should name our 4th string QB "Mayhem". If current trends and recent history continues, he will be getting a start this season.

Thanks. Now I know about where we need to be spending. Don't think we have those kind of funds, but maybe we can get Leavitt.
-
Any idea what his current contract pays? I've heard everyone has a price.
-
You deserve a -1. What do you think the fan base has been doing for the past 3+ years. Show me another team that has played this bad and still managed to increase attendance. It's a job. If he can't do it, he can't stay. 7 wins. No excuses.

I don't know who the next coach could be. But when a new head coach is hired, he needs to be a big time name who has won at every level. A guy that will get recruits excited to play for North Texas despite the facts that we play in a bad conference and have not won much in recent history. Only a big time name can do that. No FBS coordinators. No FCS coaches. No marginal FBS coaches. We have to steal a highly regarded head coach away from another program. Like SMU stole Jones. Any ideas? Temple maybe?

I didn't say we shouldn't miss a beat. I said we shouldn't use this as an excuse. When I was little, dad taught me three things that I have never forgotten. 1. Life's not fair. 2. If you fail, don't blame others. 3. You only get what you earn. Win 7. No excuses.
-
No. Other teams are expected to deal with these issues. We can not make excuses.
-
I feel terrible for Derek, Nick, and Chris. Lets hope we don't lose any other players today. I'm beginning to think this team is cursed.
-
Lets focus on the game our team is still playing. This topic can be debated later.
-
I agree. This team needs a spark. If it doesn't find one, then this game against Army will only further the debate regarding how far below expectations this team might fall. I watched the Mean Green Insider and saw the interview with Thompson. Part of me kind of wished he would have gone "Broadway Joe" and guaranteed a victory at Army. This team needs someone to step up, believe in them, and issue a challenge.
-
I totally agree.

I agree with most of what you are posting, but a 6 win season needs to be closely examined. All 6 wins seasons are not equal. If one of those 6 wins is over Kansas State, and another is over Army, then ok, I'd say maybe we bring him back. But if we end the year with 6 wins and they are all over bad teams like those ranked lower then 110 in the FBS, then we need to find a new coach. I hope Dodge can get us 7 wins. I'm pulling for him.

North Texas 48 Army 44 NT intends to jump on Army early and force them to have to pass the ball. The Mean Green offense does its job, but special teams continue to produce too many turnovers, penalties, and bad field position. The defense plays well but is put into too many bad situations, and gets tired in the second half. The score could easily go the other way.

I'm tired of excuses. Win, or get people in here that will. I'm positive that's how I feel.
-
After years of losing, it is taking a toll. When my friends get up during the game we have to ask them if they are coming back.
-
Terrible special teams. Too many turnovers. Too many dropped balls. I thought the defense was fairly good considering special teams and the offense kept putting them in horrible situations. Close doesn't matter. The truth is, if we can't beat Rice, we can't win 7 games. I don't care who people want to blame. It's year 4, take your pick.

In an effort to distract people from talking about how the FAU "home away from home" game has been a failure, it appears Schnelly quit trying to win the game today. Down by two scores on fourth and goal with 3 minutes left in the game, FAU calls a timeout, kicks a field goal, and then doesn't try an on sides kick. Way to fight FAU!

North Texas 42 Lice 13 The Canales' offense is going to control the ball and the clock. I watched the Clemson game again, and after watching every scrimage, the Spring Game, and some practices, I don't know if Canales opened up the whole playbook at Clemson. I don't think this game will be close. Dunbar get ready for your ESPN helmet sticker.

Dunbar has a great game, and Tune played about as well as anyone could ask. Take away the 2 picks in the endzone, and his performance was almost flawless. I want to recognize a few players I think haven't received enough credit for their performance's yesterday. Robertson's pick was big. If he doesn't make that pick, Clemson gets another score. Robertson also made alot of tackles too. He was one of our better tacklers on defense. Gill did a great job in pass protection. Clemson was not able to get much pressure on Tune from the left side. Jackson had a big game and made some long gains out of short passes. Atterberry did a great job punting. No blocks and he pinned Clemson inside the 10 a few times. Carey had some nice catches, including the TD. I'm sure I'm missing some players. Anybody you guys want to add?
