How are they going to have the Alabama uniform look with 3 colors (green, white, & black)? Bama only has red and white. They could leave black out of the new uniforms. But, if they did that, our black boarder around our field will look very out of place. They would have to remove the black strip off the helmets too. If they did that, I hope they replace it with a white strip and then make the face masks grey. If we're going to have "North Texas" on the helmets, can we get the SOW on the jersey sleeves?

July 16 - Need some recent grads or young fans
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll do it. I graduated this past December, and I'm a first time season ticket holder. Just let me know when and where. GMG! -
FIBA U19 World Championship Second Round Schedule Announced
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Thanks for the update. Do you know how many minutes he played in the 1st half? -
It's nice to see so many recruits interested in North Texas. 16 players out of 100, is good. I hope we land a few of these guys, especially the OL, DL, and QB prospects.

T Mitch leads USA in rebounds in win vs Canada
Side Show Joe replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Mitchell's playing time is increasing. He got 20 minutes in this game, and lead the team in rebounds again. The extra possessions he will get for North Texas will be big. I'd rather the NBA had their lockout next season, so we could keep this kid another season. -
I think Howard Schnellenberger is sitting on a hotter seat then these guys think. He did some really bad coaching at times last season.

I want to play them in Austin. I love that we scheduled them. I just find it disrespectful that they won't return the game. Our team deserves a chance to play them on our court too.

I think this program has reached a point where we have earned some respect around the southwest. I don't really think we need the measuring stick road games, and I don't think we need an OOC schedule loaded with home games against the SWAC and Southland. Jones has proven his teams can go toe to toe with most of the better teams and win at the Super Pit. Every season we should be playing those schools (OK St., T.Tech, LSU, Houston, TCU, SMU, UTEP, Baylor, New Mexico, Tulsa, Tulane, and Southern Miss)(home and home series), maybe 2 SWAC or Southland (home only), and then maybe one big boy (home and home series). If Texas, or any other regional power won't do it, that's fine. Maybe we will play them in the NCAA Tournament. I think this is the kind of scheduling that will advance our program to a higher level, and improve attendance.

Maybe they will suggest we put the SOW on the helmets.

This is a copy of TCU's OOC basketball schedule from last season. They had Bradley, SMU, Houston and USC all play in Fort Worth, and they had away games against Tech, Nebraska, Tulsa and Rice. I would expect TCU will be going on the road for return games against SMU, Houston, and USC, if they want them to. I'm sure Tech, Tulsa, and Rice will all give them a return game. I don't expect UNT to bring USC to the Super Pit, but we have a better basketball program then TCU. We should be able to schedule similar teams at home and on the road. They play some SWAC teams but not too many, and the Nebraska game might be a money game, but Nebraska is not Texas. They would not be a easy game, but they are more beatable then Texas. 2010-2011 SCHEDULE Date Opponent / Event Location Time / Result 11/02/10 vs. Rogers State (Exhibition) Fort Worth, Texas W, 70-53 11/12/10 vs. Jackson State Fort Worth, Texas W, 86-62 11/16/10 vs. SMU TV Fort Worth, Texas W, 84-64 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament 11/20/10 vs. Rider Springfield, Mass. I understand the need for money, but if we played teams like Tech at home more often, instead of teams from the SWAC and Southland, we'd have better attendance, and might not need to play these money games. The Tech game last year was great. Name opponent, big crowd, lots of energy, and a win; this is what the public wants. A bunch of home games against a bunch of SWAC teams, only produces a bunch of home wins with low attendance, lower RPI, and a money road game that usually ends in a loss. I'd rather play an equal amount of home and road games, against teams that will play in Denton, that the public will show up to see, and result in better RPI numbers. Lets keep scheduling Tech, OK State, LSU, and add some C-USA schools, like SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, Houston, UTEP, Southern Miss, and UAB. I know fans like you and me, will go see UNT play, but unfortunately, I feel the general public needs more incentive to show up.

Lawton Eisenhower QB Adrian McDonald
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I've been up in Lawton since last week to celebrate the 4th, and visit the in-laws. I've been wearing a lot of North Texas shirts around town. We need all the exposure we can get. -
Texas plays like 13 non-conference games and only 2 are on the road (North Carolina & UCLA). Are we getting anything out of this deal, other then a bump in RPI and a really tough road game? Is there a return visit? If not, I'd rather we keep scheduling teams like Tech, Oklahoma State, and LSU, who will actually play at the Super Pit.

Rickety WAC doesn't sway Tech recruits
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll give Dykes credit, he is try to doing damage control for his program and indirectly, Benson. But, he is crazy if he truly thinks LA Tech has a bright future in the new WAC. It takes time to build up a conference with FCS programs. If anyone knows that it is the Sun Belt. If LA Tech does leave the WAC, Dykes will look like a idiot for having said all of this stuff. -
Welcome to the board. Hope you make it to the game. And pushing for our inclusion into C-USA won't hurt my opinion of you either.

This is a very good point. +1

Carey must have used bad judgement in order to get kicked off the team, but I wouldn't call the young man a quitter. I will always be grateful for the wonderful plays he made for North Texas, and I wish him the best with his life. I hope he learns from this moment and becomes a better young man for it. I'm sure McCarney feels the same way.

Good news. I just looked at the 2011-2012 North Texas roster, and it shows Outlaw on it. They list him as a senior. This makes me feel a little better.

Chancellor was a game changer on special teams. We will need him to be a game changer at WR this season too.

Feedback for Upcoming Texas Monthly Article
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
1). What throw-back jersey do you wear? I'm not as old as some in the Mean Green Nation, so I wear a Patrick Cobbs jersey, but I'd like to get a Mean Joe Greene, Abner Haynes, Cedrick Hardman, and Brian Waters jersey too. 2). Where do you tailgate and where do you eat? On the "Rolling Green" of old "Eagle Point", as close to the stadium as possible. I like Mitzler's B-B-Q and the Pourhouse. Those guys are great supporters of North Texas athletics. 3). What's the best UNT Tradition? The North Texas Battle Flag, and holding up an Eagle Claw and yelling... Go Mean Green! 4). What odd or unique things do the fans do at North Texas? Celebrate on Fry Street. That area is pretty unique. 5). What bar do you drink at when the Mean Green win? Win or lose, a lot of fans go out to Lucky Lou's or Rip Rock's out on Fry Street. 6). What classic game do fans refer to? The 21-14 win on the road against Tennessee back in 1975 is legendary with the Mean Green Nation. I wasn't there for it. The 2002 New Orleans Bowl, where North Texas beat Cincinnati 24-19, has to be the classic game I refer to most. Go Mean Green!!! -
That's great news. Why does this kind of stuff always air when I'm out of town?
-
Hey neighbor, That's a good question. I guess we'll see where Carey ends up. However the situation turns out for he, I hope he is able to finish his degree and live a good life.
-
I agree. With the exception of Barry Sanders, a running back is only as good as his O-line. We do have solid assistant coaches at every position now. That makes me feel better about our situation.

Not to kick you when you're down, but Carey was going to wear #4 this season.
