The Latest on Merger mtg -- Subject to change by the minute
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
You got a source on the inside? If what you say is true, then the alliance must be planning on expanding to at least 18. Who are the other schools we are up against, and how do we stack up? I just can't believe Texas State is one of them. -
SMU Board mentions UNT as possible CUSA replacement
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't mind the smug ramblings of smu fans. As long as they believe they are lightyears ahead of North Texas, we can quietly build our program. Jones has tried to leave the ponies each of the last two years, and that won't help them in the long term. By the time we start our series, these same smug smu fans will realize they have a fight on their hand, and be very humbled watching their Big East smu program getting slapped around by UNT. UNT is not a school for kids that didn't get into Texas or Tech. I got accepted to Texas. I had the opportunity to attend Rice. If I wanted, I could have gone to smu, and they would have given me a free ride too. I chose to pass on those schools, and attend North Texas. None of those schools could match the education I received at North Texas. I love North Texas, and I wear my Mean Green shirts and hats with pride. -
I don't like Benson. I hope Rawlins and other presidents will not approve him. If the Sun Belt wants a guy with experience running an FBS conference, why don't they try to lure a former BCS conference commissioner?

Temple and Florida Int. being eyed for CUSA/MWC Merger
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree. I like the Sun Belt, but C-USA would be better for us, and these rumors of Benson being the next commissioner really bother me. I hope North Texas won't have to be around if that comes to pass. -
C-USA tries to get back on track after recent defections

I feel better about our situation when I read stories like this. Good find Harry.- 1 reply

Hardeman was a beast. I wish he got more credit for being one of the greatest players in our school's history. He made some good movies too...

I really enjoyed the event last night. I thought the athletic department did a great job. As for the class, I'm glad to have each one of them. I'm sure Coach Mac and his staff found the best players they could lure to UNT. I don't know how many will actually see real playing time next season, but I have to trust Coach Mac can win with the players he brings in. Although Mac stated several times that we have a long way to go before our program is where we want it to be, he and his staff repeatedly said, they believe we will be at a bowl next season. I liked hearing that.

Early Sunday afternoon recruiting notes
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'm not going to knock these recruits, but I just can't get excited when we are scrambling to fill scholarships because our original recruits bailed on us for SMU. I'm not happy right now. I really hope we can land Evans. -
I like mine better.

Since you asked for an "Ideal" conference... North Texas Texas Oklahoma LSU Notre Dame USC Alabama Ohio State Michigan

Breaking news -- Chris Jones, Jordan Williams ineligible
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Terrible. Just terrible.... These two have really let down the team, and the fan base. Just when we should be getting ready to make a run, we have to develope another combination of players to win with. -
Back-to-Back SBC Honors For Tony Mitchell
Side Show Joe replied to DeepGreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If he wins it again next week, can we start calling him the Defending Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week? Congrats Tony! -
I'm in total agreement with you.

Although I know the article was written as a positive story for LA Tech, I didn't read it that way. If that was their proposal to C-USA, they should get left out again. Their budget is still terrible. They still have no market. We have invested more money into our facilities. We have more students enrolled at UNT, then there are LA Tech alumni in a 250 mile radius of their school. If we made a proposal to C-USA, we have to be in a better position then LA Tech. As long as we can keep McCarney or a coach of his ability, North Texas will continue to improve and become a team that can compete against the top teams in any non-AQ conference. If C-USA moves to expand, I honestly believe we will be ahead of LA Tech when it comes to getting an invite. But, to be totally honest, I'd feel much better if we heard something from our athletic department regarding where we stand in all of this.

Mansfield QB Je'rod Evans to vist UNT
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I really believe Evans will be with North Texas on Feb. 1st. I think he is a great fit for the Canales system. -
I hate the Patriots. The only reason I am pulling for them is so Waters can get a ring. Waters had a good game last night.

I didn't see this posted. The N.O. Bowl numbers were up, but the other Sun Belt bowls were down. My link

McCarney hires Skladany as new UNT DC
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
It would be nice if the post would have explained where Bowen went. I looked at the KU site and it says they are keeping their old DC. Rich Rod at Arizona is still in the market for a DC. Could Bowen be headed there? My biggest problem with all this is the lack of information about what went down, and the fact that our D will have to learn a new scheme for next season. I hope the guy will be agressive. I like the sacks and turnovers. -
Future FB Schedules of All NCAA FBS Schools Link
Side Show Joe replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Toledo has Miami on their home schedule. Not Miami-of Ohio, Miami-Florida. I don't understand why we have to schedule 3 OOC road games for almost every season. We have a great location to sell quality programs. UNT should be able to schedule Miami for an honest home and home, just like Toledo. -
I usually don't get into uniform talk
Side Show Joe replied to TheColonyEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I liked the helmets too, but I'd really like to keep some continuity in our uniforms. At this point the only change I might support would be grey facemasks and all black shoes. Now I'm showing my age. -
I am embarrassed by this score. I know this is a young team, but it is supposed to be a talented team too. This is a game we should have won. .500 at the FT line, and Mitchell fouling out, is getting old real quick.

Is it just me, or has RV been really quiet lately. I haven't seen his "Villareal's Views" on the athletic site in a while, either. Is he working on something big? Is he busy wrapping up a late Christmas Present for the Mean Green Nation?
-
SMU is ahead of UNT, but not by a lot. I think we have a good chance of hanging on to this kid, if we get into the new MWC/C-USA conference. Even if SMU steals this kid, I like our chances against them, when the series begins. McCarney is the real deal. I can really see UNT making some noise in another year or two.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.

I saw this on the C-USA board. The thing looks great. I'd love to have one at the Pit. Since everyone is addressing their Christmas wish list, I'd like to see an improvement in quality of the Mean Green Premium broadcasts. Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad to have the service, but it doesn't exactly look like netflix when I connect it to a large T.V. I'd be willing to pay more if it ment watching a higher quality picture.
