You're not wrong. But, do your kids enjoy the game days, and would spending Saturday's with them doing something else be a better use of time? I don't think there are many other events that provide better opportunities for making lasting memories with your children, while also encouraging them to embrace education. And, every now and then North Texas does have a great moment, like "the Stand" or "the Drive" or the 2013 HOD Bowl. I think we would all agree that we want many more of those types of memories. I drive my family two and a half hours to be at our home games, then two and a half hours back home. So, I get what you mean. But, I hope you keep up the good fight.

I agree with most of your post, but please don't give up. Please don't quit. We need our angry fans just as much as our happy fans. When you get the chance, pressure our administration for better results. If fans walk away like they have done throughout our recent history, the status quo will never change. Ignore those that refuse to acknowledge what you are seeing, but be fair and write the truth. You are not alone on here.

Depth Chart for UNT vs Southern Miss
Side Show Joe replied to MGNation92's topic in Mean Green Football
I've been watching college ball for a while. I remember watching the annual Texas/Texas A&M Thanksgiving games, back when Earl Campbell was punishing defenses. I remember listening to SWC games on the radio before they started playing the Raycom games on fox sports southwest (at the time HSE: Home Sports Entertainment). And I agree, Nebraska had a great option offense back in the Osborn days. -
UNT vs Southern Miss on Fox Sports SW?

I grew up in Houston. I don't watch the Rangers or Mavs. And, I don't know anyone from Houston that follows hockey. These days I just stick to watching my Mean Green. -
UNT vs Southern Miss on Fox Sports SW?

Thanks. I'll be at the game Saturday, but there will be road games I'll be watching on TV. I'll see if I can add the extra package. -

I really don't think the problem is Torrey. I think he just isn't getting many holes to run through and being hit at the line of scrimmage too often. -

Given Adaway's angry running style, I'm willing to bet he is one of those RB's that gets stronger as the game goes on. I'd like to give him a chance to see if that happens. -
UNT vs Southern Miss on Fox Sports SW?

Does Dish carry Fox Sports Southwest? If so, what channel is it? Thanks. -
The stats don't tell the whole story. One game was against an outmatched FCS defense that was completely tied in the second half. And, against SMU, Adaway, bullied his way to 104 yards rushing on 20 carries, because he doesn't need blocking to get yards. Go back and watch the SMU tape, and see how many run plays made it into the reel. Torrey ran for his life and found the end zone after no one opened a hole for him, and two QB runs to the outside. That is about it. The rest was all through the air. Our line has been bad at run blocking.

Adaway should be starting. -
For years LA Tech, USM, and UAB have been able to recruit higher caliber talent on their lines. Just look into the position rankings of most of their lineman and compare them to ours. On the good side, Littrell has gotten much better at attracting more talented linemen over the last two years. But, it will take time for those players to contribute. Our pass blocking has improved over last season, but we still need to get a lot better at run blocking.

Seth has some quality young talent, and I believe he can develop them into a team that can contend for the C-USA title in another year or two. The problem is that they will still get embarrassed by SMU and the better G5 programs. C-USA is a very bad conference. We have to aspire to more than just being able to win our conference championship. This is year 5 of the Littrell era. I wish more people around this board would be willing to raise the bar a little.

We should be playing a series with BC. We are the two oldest college programs with Eagles as their mascots. BC adopted the Golden Eagle in 1920 and we adopted the (Bald?) Eagle in 1922.

Maybe. Tough game right now. HBU 14 LA Tech 17

I guess some people have just conditioned themselves to ignore facts. In fairness, Littrell has improved his recruitment of linemen over the last two classes (All but one of the OL and DL recruits from the 20 & 21 classes outrank the linemen recruited in the 18 & 19 classes). Unfortunately, he didn't effectively use the transfer portal to fill holes until these younger linemen are ready to produce. All we can do is shine a light on the truth and roll with the punches.

Neither of these teams looked very good, but both seemed to be better on the lines than we are. And, games are won and lost at the line of scrimmage. Littrell should have done a better job of building our offensive and defensive lines. I think both of these teams beat us when we play them on the road.

ESPN: North Texas made decision to cancel Houston game
Side Show Joe replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
While I question our coaching and the talent level of both lines, I do not question the hearts of our players. I believe every one of those young men want nothing more than to take the field and play. I feel bad that they will not have that opportunity this weekend against Houston. I hope those that are ill recover quickly, and those that are at risk, do not get ill. -
We all know this team won't go undefeated in conference play, regardless of how many games we actually get to play. The point of my post, which you either missed or chose to misrepresent, is that C-USA is terrible, especially C-USA West. So, by all accounts we should win some of those games. But, even so, it will not mean our program has progressed, although some on here will use those wins to justify our current direction in year 5 of the Littrell era. I believe anyone that drinks that green Kool-Aid is setting themselves up for more disappointment.

I haven't done any research, but just off the top of my head... Skip Holtz would be much better than Littrell. Holtz has led LA Tech to 6 straight bowl wins, including two against P5 programs (Miami & Illinois) and a 51-10 win over SMU in the Frisco Bowl (SMU beat North Texas by a score of 54-32 that season). I know Skip just signed a new deal with LA Tech, but even his new deal is worth a million dollars less than what we are wasting on LIttrell. Also, Holtz owns Littrell. Over the course of his time at UNT, Littrell has complied a 1-3 record against Skip's LA Tech teams. And to top it off, Holtz has dome all this with one of the worst budgets in the FBS. I wonder what Skip could do with our resources. If I have time I will look in to finding other qualified candidates. Here is a link to the story on the new Holtz contract.... https://www.thenewsstar.com/story/sports/college/louisiana-tech/2020/09/03/louisiana-tech-skip-holtz-agree-new-five-year-contract/5679374002/

I have no interest in rep points. This issue is about the direction of our program. I just want to read a logical fact based explanation for why some people are still willing to defend this level of failure. Sadly, no one has answered the call.
-
People can down vote the facts all they want, but it doesn't change the truth... A Littrell team has not beaten a bowl eligible team in over 2 years.

I agree with your assessment of how we lost the game, But not your assessment of Littrell. I no longer have faith in Littrell's ability to fix our problems. Not based on my personal opinions, but the actual facts. We have known for years that both our offense and defensive lines were weak, yet he has not actually address those positions yet. Sure we have better young talent, but it isn't ready yet. I can't give him a pass on recruiting either. Just because we have had a history of bad recruiting dosn't mean we shouldn't expect him to fix that problem. Other programs have recruiting challenges too. SMU will always have the "Death Penalty" hanging around their neck, but yet they still manage to talk parents into letting them care for their children. Also, Dykes stepped into the SMU job and built their talented roster a year after Littrell got to UNT. So Littrell had a head start of one year. Since November 25th of 2017, a Littrell team has beaten exactly one FBS program that went on to finish their season with a winning record (Southern Miss finished the 2018 season with a 6-5 record, and UNT beat them on October 13, 2018). Yes, in our great 9-4 2018 season, Littrell only managed to beat 1 FBS team that finished the season with a winning record. Wow. We basically beat a bunch of bums that season. No wonder Utah State stomped a 52-13 mud hole in us at the New Mexico Bowl. I wish it were different, but the numbers just don't lie. Littrell's seat should be blazing already. It is time for North Texas to find a new coach. Is money an issue? Probably, but that is a challenge we have to accept if we want to have chance at stopping SMU from pounding us for the remainder of this series.
