I hate ESPN 3. I won't miss our games on that Piece-O-Crap excuse for game coverage. I still can't figure out how to expand the damn window to a full screen!

Playcalling is why we suck today
Side Show Joe replied to UNTstormchaser's topic in Mean Green Football
It's kind of sad when we can't trust our passing game and have to keep running the ball with only 5 minutes left in the game, and down by 3 scores. -
I'm SOOOOOOOO Tired of Derek Thompson's Terrible Passing
Side Show Joe replied to chrisfisher's topic in Mean Green Football
We were down 31-0 at one point today. WKU, ULM, and ASU are all better then MTSU. I think most reasonable fans would agree a bowl game is probably out of our reach now. Even with Chancellor (broken collar bone) and Delgado out, TD is not the answer for this program. Too many bad passes. I see no reason why we shouldn't look at some other QBs. At 3-5, it is time to develop players for the future. We just lost to a team that lost to McNeese State. -
I think we have the better defense, and I think we will win the turnover battle. UNT 32 MTSU 23
-
I know we should be focusing on MTSU, but I ran across this video on youtube and had to post. Sorry if someone aready has.

Right now, Arkansas State, FIU, USA, and MTSU are all looking beatable, but we have to get past ULL first. I'm hoping to see a great game from UNT on Tuesday.
-
I give up on predicting these scores. I'll just say we will have a better chance of winning if we can successfully throw the ball down field and not allow the ULL defense to crowd the line.

Attendance on national TV on the 15th..,
Side Show Joe replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
I was able to talk a few people from work into coming out for the game on Tuesday. These people are not hard core Mean Green fans like us. They are casual fans that want to get behind UNT and be at Apogee for the ESPN broadcast. I hope coach Mac can go out and speak to the students and get them fired up to come out for this game. If he can do that, we might see around 20,000 for this game. If he doesn't, or can't, our attendance could be much lower. -
What the hell are they doing out there? At the Houston game they seemed shaky... Yeah, I think that is the best way to put it. I wonder if they understand when they are supposed to fire up the crowd? Every away game I've been to they cheer and yell when our offense is on the field and then when our defense is trying to get a stop they are facing the field watching the game. A few times last night when our offense was facing 3rd down, the stadium announcer called for noise, and our cheerleaders turned to the Mean Green section and tried to get our crowd to make noise. I know in the grand scheme of things it wasn't going to make much of a difference, but really?!!! Look. I know the cheerleaders are volunteer and I'm thankful to them for the time they take to support our university, but there is a philosophy behind motivating and energizing the crowd. At its core that philosophy needs to center on knowing when to try and fire up our fans. Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me?

We all hoped we would win this game, but deep down we know our team still has some issues. Houston is now a much better team than the one that lost to Texas State. Houston was bigger, faster, and stronger last night. We lost to a better team. It sucks, but I don't see any shame in that. I'm not happy about it, but I can live with it. Now, the Troy game still gives me the red a$$. If there is something to be frustrated about, it is the fact that last nights performance would have been good enough to beat Troy and keep our dreams of a bowl alive. The Troy loss (that never should have happened) will probably haunt this team all season. North Texas will always be my team, just like North Texas will always be my university. We will turn the corner. It just seems like it is going to take longer then many of us were hoping for. I'll be there for the ULL game, along with the other Mean Green fans.

We did not solve the problem today. We went deep, but did not connect on enough of those passes to force FAU to drop their DBs. We are too inconsistent in the passing game.
-
Obi had 2.5 sacks. That's a big positive. Great job Obi!
-
Don't get me wrong, I'm very glad we won the game, but... As long as we are limited to short passes, every team will stack the line to stop us from running. We have to get better at throwing down the field, or we will be in for a long season. We held on to beat FAU tonight. We went 0 for 3 in the redzone...IN ONE SERIES?!?!?! We came into this game looking for answers to problems in the redzone, and the kicking game. It seems the kicking game problems have been fixed, but I'm even more concerned about the offense now. Having a redzone problem against Troy is one thing, but having the problem against FAU is something much worse.
-
The running game was bad because FAU didn't respect our passing game. They played the safties up most of the time and shut down the running game. I'm not sure why we didn't throw more on 1st down. The FAU LBs and DBs were crushing our RBs at the line of scrimmage way too much. Thompson should have been able to carve them up all night. Our bigger plays seem to come from play actions and deeper passes.
-
In the spirit of "the glass in half full" theme... 6. Didn't allow a kick return for a Touchdown
-
Our offensive output tonight was impressive
Side Show Joe replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't believe our current offense can win many games this season. Our redzone issues are a nightmare. We just struggled to beat FAU. Unless they turn out to be a title contender this season, I say we are in trouble. Why wasn't a JC QB brought in after last season? Our Defense is good, but it's not reasonable to expect them to hold every Belt team to 14 points. Great job Defense and Special Teams! Glad to see Olen back on track and Chancellor returning punts when he can. -
We are probably at least a season away from getting this thing fixed. That game last night was probably the game we needed to get to 6-6 and a bowl game. None of the fans that are angry think it is "football Armageddon". You are taking the anger out of context. Our program isn't getting dropped or moving down to FCS, fans are just mad becuase they know this team probably won't contend for the Belt title or a bowl birth when it holds a team to 14 points at home and can't win the game. I'm sticking with coach Mac's original phylosophy on losing. This loss to Troy was inexcusable.
-
I agree. It was the worst coaching I've seen since Dodge iced our kicker. McCarney's post game interview only made things worse, because it sounded like the old Dodge comments. This loss was not a team effort. The Defense held Troy to 14 points, and UNT beat Troy in almost every statistical catagory. We lost this game beause Thompson was inconstistant at QB, couldn't do squat in the red zone, and our kicking game didn't show up for the game. McCarney, Riddle, and Canales all share in the blame for this one. I saw RV walking the sideline at the end of the game and he looked pissed. The fans showed up and were loud. This team let the fans down, and some won't be back. That really pisses me off. This program was right where we've been wanting to be, and f***ed it up. Now, unless we destroy both FAU and Houston, our ULL game on ESPN2 will look like a MAC game on T.V., with empty stands. It's just embarrassing.
-
Thompson played terrible. He didn't look like a FBS QB tonight. I no longer have faith in him as our starting QB. Something needs to be done. I don't know what, but something. Without consistant play at the QB position, this season will be over.
-
Tonight was embarrassing. It looked like Dodge-ball out there. Thompson played like crap. The kickers played like crap. Coach MaCarney, the guy who said the loss to LSU was "inexcusable", did not impress me in his post game interview. Seemed to be making excuses to me. We didn't score any points in five trips to the red zone. 6 wins is not going to happen. We lost to a team we should have beat. Many casual fans that showed up tonight won't be coming back to see our '76 Bucs impersonation. Dreams of a large crowd for the ESPN2 game just went up in smoke. All is not well in the Mean Green Nation.
-
I think you both make a good point. The Mean Green need to be the draw for our program to ever reach the big time club, but the Mean Green can't become the draw until they reach the point where they are beating big time football programs. North Texas must become a top 25 team before they are the draw for casual fans. From what I've seen of other programs, this seems to be the formula.

Sorry Troy, We're About to Be Mean
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
I have a feeling we will have a very large crowd on hand to see something very special from our Mean Green. I've had more people contact me about coming to the game and tailgating with my group. -
Good morning mean green nation!
Side Show Joe replied to oldguystudent's topic in Mean Green Football
I went out to the back yard this morning. I drank my coffee and looked over at the stadium and windmills. It's a beautiful morning in the Mean Green Nation.
