  1. I don't understand the need to attack SMU with our signs. This is our bowl. This is our time. Why should we give them any time on the air? I think a better train of thought would be to steal some of SMU's thunder. They tried to promote their program as the team of Dallas. We should make signs claiming Dallas, Fort Worth, and Denton. I think several signs with this common message would be great. Dallas is Mean Green Country! (with an image of the Cotton Bowl draped with North Texas banners) Fort Worth is Mean Green Country! (with an image of the Stock Yard Longhorns lead by Scrappy) Denton is Mean Green Country! (with an image of our fans and players celebrating a Mean Green TD at Apogee) We have 36,000 students and many more alumni then SMU and TCU. We shouldn't concede any territory to either. For our uninvolved alums, the Dallas media, and the national audience, that should be our message. Just my opinion.
  2. Section 25, Row 37. I stopped by the stadium and picked up my tickets and parking pass yesterday. Those people were busy working the phones. Seemed like several fans were still ordering tickets.
  3. With our entrance into C-USA, and all the work J. J. did for North Texas basketball, our home attendance numbers should be rising. Benford has not worked out. Losing to SFA isn't what really upsets me. They are a good program, and can steal a win here and there. It's how they were able to slap us around on our home court. Our attendance was weak already. This game will only make it worse. Conference play hasn't even started, and many in our fan base are ready to throw in the towel. Considering where this program was when J. J. left, no one thought things could get this bad this fast. I'm not interested in blaming anyone, I just want the situation addressed. I hope the administration does something soon.
  4. The Jansport shirt is available at the Apogee Stadium Store for about $22.
  5. Congratulations to all the guy that made the list. Well deserved. My only issues with the list would be Lee and D. Smith. Lee was the hardest hitter all season, and intimidated receivers, tight ends, running backs, and QBs that crossed his path. I don't think we played a team this season with a harder hitter on it. That may not show up in the stats, but it was a tremendous advantage for our defense. Smith made the big/clutch catches while Chancellor was drawing double coverage. I thought Lee and D. Smith deserved at least second team honors. But, it is great to see so many Mean Green players represented on the All Conference Team.
  6. So let me get this straight... ESPN now produces and manages the HOD Bowl. They had the largest say in who our opponent would be, and now they don't like the matchup that they selected, and call it the worst bowl? And people on this board can't understand why some of us are upset. I know there is nothing we can do to change the situation, but I can at least say that I don't like the situation. So those of you that want to tell people like me to shut up, can save your time. Believe me, everyone that doesn't like this matchup has heard your angry demands for conformity loud and clear.
  7. For our players that read this board... I believe in you, and I believe you could have given a BIG 10 or ACC team more then they wanted. Sorry you won't get that chance. Congratulations on a great season. I can't wait to watch y'all fight the Rebels on New Years Day at the HOD. Go Mean Green!!!
  8. The video is fine, but I would have used some footage from "the Stand". When will it begin airing on T.V.? The Dallas Cowboys are playing Monday Night Football on ESPN right now.
  9. RV said "we are planning on keep coach Mac for a very long time". Talked about wanting 25 to 30K UNT fans at the HOD. Talked about how hosting high school playoff games give UNT a recruiting advantage. Great news. Makes me wonder how the contract extension is going.
  10. They will be reporting from Apogee after this commercial. They are going to interview RV. The announced we would play in the HOD and played the fight song. Nice.
  11. The Fan Sports Show just said they are going to report from Apogee for the high school playoffs and talk about North Texas to the HOD.
  12. Well said Cerebus. Regardless of our opinions about the opponent (and I don't believe anyone feels UNLV is beneath UNT, just not what we expected), we all want the Mean Green to enjoy playing a great game in front a large UNT crowd. We need the university to take the lead and execute a plan to involve more UNT alums and college football fans in the North Texas region. I look forward to seeing what they come up with.
  13. We on this board can't bring the numbers North Texas needs for the HOD. C-USA, the HOD, and UNT will have to open their wallets and flood DFW with exciting commercials promoting this game. They also need to run the commercials during bowl games featuring in Texas programs (Alamo Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Chick-fil-A Bowl). UNT has to sell the 100th anniversary angle, and invite every alum, fan, and person every associated with North Texas to come out to the HOD for the grand finally celebration. The game must become more then just a bowl game. Bring out the All-Century team. Bring in Hayden Fry. Have the team wear the 100th anniversary uniforms again. We have to create something special the DFW media can't ignore. It won't be cheap, but it's what needs to be done.
  14. Challenging the fan base? The fan base will be at the game. The people happy about playing UNLV will be at the HOD, and the people mad about playing UNLV will be at the HOD. They need to worry about the people associated with North Texas who are indifferent to playing UNLV. You can't challenge those people. A different approach will be needed.
  15. C-USA never should have signed over the rights to produce and manage the HOD. ESPN didn't say one damn word about North Texas or the HOD. They stuck us with a crappy matchup, and then ignore us in the conversation. Total garbage.
  16. Oregon State got C-USA's spot in the Hawaii Bowl- pays $650,000 per team Pitt will play Bowling Green in Detroit's Pizza Bowl- It's in Detroit and pays $550,000 per team Washington State plays Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl- It pays $400,000 per team The HOD pays $1,100,000 per team C-USA should have sent MTSU to the Hawaii Bowl and offered Oregon State the open spot in the HOD. If they said no, then they could stay home for bowl season. The MAC has teams in need of a bowl. It would be about the same as playing UNLV.
  17. I have friends that were looking forward to attending the HOD and watching North Texas play a P5 bowl team. I can't sell UNLV to them. Most of us have some friends like this. We will be there, but many casual fans and disconnected alums will not. UNLV will cost us in attendance and media interest. With TCU and SMU home for the bowl season, a $1.1 million payout, the #5 DWF media market, and the high quality recruits in the area, we should have been able to get one of the extra ACC or PAC 12 teams. I would think more of you would want to know why UNLV got the nod.
  18. NBC 5 mentioned on their 5:30 broadcast that we are playing in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. They even said we would probably be playing UNLV. No video. No photos. Just my observation, but they didn't seem enthusiastic about it.
  19. The opponent is relevant. Lets be honest. Everyone on this board will be at the game. Those of us that are mad about playing UNLV and those that are happy about it, but we have many more alumni in the area that are not as involved in supporting the Mean Green, and they would be more likely to show up on New Years Day if we were playing a BIG 10, ACC, or PAC 12 bowl team.
  20. So... C-USA gave the PAC 12 a spot in the Hawaii Bowl... to play Boise State, in exchange for a spot in the Armed Forces Bowl... allowing MTSU to play Navy, and the MWC sends UNLV to the HOD instead of the Armed Forces? Is that how this trade works? Is this how we got stuck with UNLV? That's a good trade for MTSU. Not so much for us.
  21. If people are unhappy about having to play UNLV instead of a BIG 10, ACC, or any other team, then that is their right. It amazes me how some on this board choose to attack or belittle the opinions of other North Texas fans just because they feel differently. People can bitch if they want to. Those of you that are glad we are playing the 4th best team in the MWC West, over one from the BIG 10, ACC, or any other conference, are welcomed to that opinion. I don't share it. -1 me all you like. Wit, sarcasm, and sugar coating won't change how some of us feel about having to look across the field on New Years Day and see UNLV.
  22. UNLV is 4th in the MWC West. If we are playing UNLV, then it is terrible news. I can't see how some of you can sugar coating this, like UNLV is the team you wanted from the beginning. If we get stuck with UNLV, MTSU will be playing a better opponent at the Armed Forces Bowl.
