UNT QB Derek Thompson is named Plantiff in new NCAA lawsuit?
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's strange because none of us saw this coming. It's strange because I don't remember Thompson holding any other FBS offers other than North Texas. It's strange because he is the only player named in the suit. I need more information on what he wants, and why he is doing this. If you don't think this is strange, than I find that strange too.- 72 replies

UNT QB Derek Thompson is named Plantiff in new NCAA lawsuit?
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm trying to restrain myself regarding this matter, because I just don't have a good grasp of the issue. But, it certainly isn't something any of us expected to to read. I don't know why DT did this, or what he hopes to gain. I hope he addresses the issue, but I'm certain his lawyers won't let him. I don't know why he chose to sue in Minnisota. Although it doesn't look good, I realy need to have some of these question answered before I allow myself to get too mad. I have to remember, North Texas is not being sued... so far.- 72 replies

If you read down to the end of the chat, Gosselin states he will be at UNT this week to write a story for his campus tour series. Have to keep an eye out for that article.

Thanks. Yeah, I've got Directv. I guess the wife and I will be down at the East Side for this one.

Does anyone know if Rudy's will have the game? We're undefeated in games I've watched at Rudy's. I'd really like to keep the streak intact.

Coach Chico comments on all of the UNT 2014 Practices
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I see similar talent and ability to what Peterson had coming out of high school, (burst, vision, receiving ability, strength, power, and speed). I'm sure Wintrich will put 20 pounds of good mucle on him, which is the main reason I hope they red shirt him. I think he has the frame to carry another 15 or 20 pounds without losing much speed, if any. He might even get faster. I have no idea how programs like Texas and Oklahoma missed him, but I'm glad they did. -

I watched his highlights, but I also watched him in the high school coaches all-star game, down in San Antonio. The kid has skills. Even though they played him as a slot receiver all night, he managed to end the game with more catches and yards than the game MVP. Again, even though I have a very high opinion of Wilson, I still say red shirt him. We have a strong stable of backs this season. Let Wilson grow and develop. Then he can shock everyone in 2015, while they are still trying to figure out how to stop Evans. -
It was a good catch. The QB threw it late, and a little behind him. If he threw it sooner, Brelan might have been able to do something with it.

I think Wilson could be a good RB for UNT this season. He seems to have the burst, natural ability, and vision every team looks for in a back. But, we do have a strong stable of backs this season. I'd red shirt him too. I think Evans and Wilson could be the best backfields in C-USA in 2015. -

I was thinking the same thing.... Rice lost a tough one, Middle lost 34-7. -
For me, Rice is already a rivalry game. My brother has season tickets for Rice and I have mine. This season, my family will be down there rooting for the Mean Green, right in the middle of the Rice season ticket holders. Our teams should have a strong rivalry. The two largest cities in Texas should be rivals. The 10 game series with SMU should create a true rivalry. School and conference smack is on the line. It will be interesting to see if DFW recruiting for the AAC and C-USA is influenced by the winner of that annual game. Since UTSA came to Apogee and kick our cans last season, I guess they will be a rival too. I'm still angry about that loss. I love the line-up in C-USA West. Any of our match-ups have the potential to become a rivalry.

Coach Mac will be interviewed tonight on Fox 4 at 9. Nice to see media interest in North Texas football pick up as we get closer to kickoff in Austin.

DMNews: UNT will find out if it's a real program
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I agree with your post, but I'd add "regularly selling out games" to the list. I believe, under McCarney, North Texas has the program and schedule to go bowling again this season, and this is will be our down year. If our impressive young players (Williams, Wilson, Smiley, Evans, Scott, Ellis,...) develop like I believe they will, I see no reason why this program won't be an annual contender for the C-USA title, and a fixture in the national rankings. I'm very optimistic about our future. Also, tonight on FOX4 at 9, coach Mac will be interviewed.- 35 replies

Scrimmage This Saturday, what time and is it open?
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreen01's topic in Mean Green Football
I prefer missing these fall scrimmages, if this philosophy is part of the formual that allows UNT to post winning seasons, and go to bowl games. I remember watching the fall scrimmages under Dodge, when we never won anything. That wasn't as fun. -

Wilson looked great in the Coaches High School All-Star game. Even though they played him as a slot receiver, he was able to catch more passes and for more yards, than the game MVP. -
Are there any plans to schedule future "Home and Home" series against P5 programs, like maybe Washington State, Cal, or Arkansas? Will North Texas have 6 home games next season? Thank you.

Any info on new Mean Green helmets/uniforms?
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreen55's topic in Mean Green Football
To the best of my knowledge, we will not be getting new uniforms this season. I believe the players will be selecting from our current uniforms. I do believe our helmets will be changing. I'm fairly confident our helmets will be green, with white SOWs on the sides. I don't know if the helmets will be green like last seasons or a mat finish green. -
UNT will be on TV a ton this year, sked and thoughts
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I have to agree. Middle didn't project a good image in that game. No one will ever win fans by cheap shotting service academy players in the Armed Forces Bowl, and then jumping around like they're proud of it. It really reflected poorly on our conference. MT is better then that.- 18 replies

I knew when we signed on to play this game it would end up on the Horn Network. I hate that channel. I hope Rudy's is broadcasting the game, because I don't get that channel, and can't make it to Austin for the game.
