MGB: UNT preliminary TV schedule out
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I hate playing on Fox College Sports. I don't have that channel. Having said that, I guess it's hard to complain about the schedule when we are coming off a 4 win season. I should just be glad we got 5 between Fox and CBS Sports. I'm sure the Tennessee game will be on the SEC Network, and the Iowa game will be on the Big 10 Network. ESPN might pick up the SMU game. I guess the ASN will pick up 2 or 3 of the remaining games. -
Everyone at the Spring Game knows Williams had a solid outing. Maybe the best of all the QBs, considering he had to face the first team D. I don't know why the staff and him couldn't make this work. I won't pretend to know what is going on within the football program, but I don't like this at all. We need a QB. Mac will never say why Williams is gone. I wish Dajon would post his side of this story.

GMG.com Official Ideas to Sell out the Wing
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
1. Football Fun Zone- Let fans keep the footballs they catch after extra points and field goals. Have the players and coaches walk over after the game and sign them. It would be a very cool and unique tradition. I doubt any other program has ever done it. 2. The Mean Green Nation "Wing-Zone"- $5 ticket discount for each person that wears a Mean Green themed costume. Kids would love this. Green Darth Vader helmets are very cool. I think both could be done. -
UNT 2015 Spring game in review
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I've been watching the Mean Green for over a decade, and that was the worst Spring Game I have ever seen. The score and the lack of crowd excitement should be troubling the athletic department. Our RBs, TEs, and WRs all look good. I don't believe our QB situation is any better then it was last season. The only good passes McNulty threw were against blown coverage or no coverage. In the end, he couldn't get it done against the 2's or 4's. Dijon split time with Greer in the first half and barely played in the second half, but still accounted for 2 of the 3TDs the White team scored. Was he perfect? No. Was he better then McNulty? Yes. And, Dijon did it against the starters. After yet another Spring Game.... I wish I could have seen Williams with the first team. I just don't understand what's going on with our staff. -
This is not only stupid but also offensive. Sombreros have no history in Texas, despite their promotion in San Antonio for tourists. They are a tradition of Mexico. Something like the "Chisholm Trail Trophy" would be much better, and call the series the "Range War". I'd much prefer a rivalry trophy with Rice and/or SMU. When we joined C-USA our hopes were to develop strong rivalries with Rice, Tulsa, Tulane, and UTEP. We believed we could dominate UTSA for at least the first few seasons. Now we want to label it a rivalry. To me that is quite a stretch. Shouldn't we actually beat them before we label the series a rivalry?

If North Texas Wins Less Then 5 Games Should...
Side Show Joe replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't believe the original question is the right approach to our problem. We have no clue just how tough our schedule is yet. Every season there are surprises. Some teams are worse than they were expected to be, some are better. I just don't think you can say X number of wins is the line in the sand. I understand, very few fans are happy about where the program is right now. I know I'm not happy. But, can't we at least see some Spring ball before we ball before we get the pitchforks out. At this point, my one demand for next season is beating UTSA. I am sick and tired of losing to them. If North Texas falls to 0-3 against UTSA, changes will certainly need to be made. Many changes. -
UH BOR chair has nuts... really stupid though.
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
You need to go back and read my original post... "Houston is a fine university but not a might(y) force he (Fertitta) makes them out to be. You may not like this, but Houston is very similar to North Texas. Both are very large public universities in the two largest cities in Texas, and have similar public university rankings." I never claimed one institution was more impressive the average person. Having stated that... I am very proud of my degree from North Texas, and would make the exact same choice again. And, I'd put my skills up against any recent graduate from any university in the country. -

Here you go. http://www.bizjournals.com/bizjournals/news/2015/02/12/2015-rankings-of-u-s-public-colleges.html?page=all #136 Houston #146 North Texas The rankings look similar to me. -

I'm from Houston, Fertitta certainly has cash, but his words are not really true. Houston is a fine university but not a might force he makes them out to be. You may not like this, but Houston is very similar to North Texas. Both are very large public universities in the two largest cities in Texas, and have similar public university rankings. The only way Fertitta could get Houston in the Big12, is if he opened his checkbook and bought them a spot. -
From little old Dickinson High... Donnie Little- University of Texas QB from 1978-80 Roteni Anderson- Oklahoma Runningback (on Sports Illustrated November 1987 cover) And... Andre Ware- Houston's Heisman Trophy Quarterback There are other that played college and some pro, but these are the most famous.

Mac post 2014 Season State of the Union
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
My problems with Mac's Address: - I don't like having a down season. No one does. But, every program has them. I can't be too mad about that. I'm upset because we we are now 0-2 against UTSA. Mac can call his staff great if he wants to, but the truth is they have yet to beat the Runners. To me, that is completly unacceptible. I noticed he didn't address the fact that we lost to every C-USA Texas team this season either. - I don't like him naming McNulty as the starter heading into next season. Yes, McNulty started down the stretch this season, but it isn't like we won with him running the show. Saying McNulty is our best option, doesn't mean he is a good option, and that says a lot about where we are right now. Coach always seems ready to talk about how hard it is to recruit players to North Texas. He is always ready to admit how small and slow the team was when he took over (Even though our best players (Thompson, Chancellor, Byrd, Trice, and Orr) on our 9-4 bowl team were a Dodge recruits). He has pointed out that a new stadium and new conference hasn't magically fixed his recruiting issues. I'm not a recruiting guru, but I know losing to every Texas program in the conference, and than insesting that what you are doing is working, won't help in recruting either. It is going to be a long off-season.- 60 replies

Add no one. I have no problem with unbalanced divisions. The MAC did it for years. Stay at 13 and each program gets a larger share of the payout. If UAB leaves, I like C-USA West with 6 teams.

Well said Harry. That was my first thought after the game. Only I was far too angry to spell it out. This program can't afford losses to UTSA. I was mad after we lost to them last season. This loss is beyond embarrassing. We can't even call our series a rivalry.... We have to win a game before it can be a rivalry! This season was horrible, but the way it ended is even more disturbing. North Texas can't afford coaches that can't beat UTSA. Things need to change and quick. Were it not for SMU, we would be the worst football program in Texas. At least SMU is fixing their problem, and hiring a new coach. I have yet to hear anything from McCarney that makes me feel better about the direction of our program. I'm not sure if Mac, RV, the administrators, or the BOR understand just how much anger there is within the fanbase. If they don't step up to the plate and fix this program now, they will understand next year when season tickets are up for renewal. I hope they don't want season ticket holders to turn into walk up ticket sales.

Not mad at Whitfield. He probably didn't believe the offense could get it done either. If he would have taken it to the end zone, coach would be praising him right now. We lost today because of our coaching and recruiting (or lack there of). Although I have great respect for coach Mac, the truth is, we are 0-2 verses UTSA, and that is completly unacceptible. After four years of recruiting, we should not be in this situation. We should have a FBS caliber QB. We should have more weapons at the WR position. Coach Mac is a defensive guy. We should have more depth at the D-line. Coach will talk about execution, and protecting the ball, but those things go without saying, and UTSA did as bad a job as we did. The simple truth is we can't afford a coach that can't beat UTSA. I am very angry right now, so I'm going to log off and try to cool down before I really start bitching.

Rain or shine. I was there for Ohio, when it felt like a monsoon blew into Denton (what a horrible ending that game had). I was there when Dunbar rolled MTSU for 318. I'll be there tomorrow too. Go Mean Green!

I would argue that some of the extra defensive mistakes and penalties are a direct result of our quarterbacking problems. We have a good defense, but when they spend most of the game on the field, they get tired. Of course they will make more mistakes. Plus, players on defense are trying to make something happen, because the O can't move the ball. Yes, we are making too many mistakes, but I believe at least some of those on defense are a result of our QB play. I see no reason why Williams shouldn't see meaningful time against Nicholls. We have to have a real passing game by the time we head to Indiana. If we don't, I think we are in for a very long season.

Here is a little good news. Tonight at 8, the NFL network will air the Joe Greene special for the first time. Just thought some of y'all would want to check it out. Go Mean Green.

I saw the same scene yeasterday afternoon. Maybe the athletic office is expanding the student section due to the extra student interest in this game. I still think we get around 30,000 tomorrow.
-
I talked up the game to some of my co-workers and stopped by the ticket office today, to pick up 5 extra tickets for Saturday. While, there I viewed some of the sections with tickets still avalible. Didn't look like a whole lot of seats left to me. One section on the home side, in front of the north end zone appeared to only have about 20 seats left. There was a line when I showed up, and a line when I left. Not all of the people in line looked like students. Anyone still needing tickets shouldn't wait too long to get them.

Best Place in DFW for Apparel? Gear, chairs etc
Side Show Joe replied to JRock's topic in Mean Green Football
The Rally House in Flower Mound is closer, and they have a larger selection than most places. Of course the stadium store probably has the largest selection. Voertmans, and the Campus Bookstore are also good places to look. -
I think our D is better than SMU's. I have no clue how good our offense can be... I haven't seen it yet.

I would have sent a kid from the stands into the game if I thought he could hit our recievers.
