Sounds like it was a really fun night. They didn't seem to spend a lot of time working the Mean Green angle on TV. At one point they cut away from the field for a while, and one of the announcers got angry, complaining about a fan"s behavior. Did someone run onto the field?

Nice. Who throw it out last year? Was it Lance?

Tonight is the North Texas night at Globe Life. Is anyone going? Any guesses as to which North Texas figure will throw out the first pitch?

You are a better man then me. My group usually forgoes tailgating if the weather is extremely poor.

Make your case... How early do you set up? What do you set up? Tents? TVs? Couches? What do you cook? How big is your group? What kind of Mean Green paraphernalia do you display? Flags? Vehicles? Pits? Pics? Talk your trash here, and maybe Harry (cause everyone trusts him) can crown a champ after the Rice game, when an actual visual of your set up can be authenticated. I'll slap together a really ugly trophy for the winner. A trophy no self respecting group could take pride in displaying.

I have no idea. I haven't watched a game on the C-USA digital network, and haven't seen one on the Mean Green All Access since the Belt years. I have seen a couple of away games on the ASN website, and I like it better then ESPN3.

Lets not forget Willy Ivery. He has some serous wheels. That guy should break off a few long runs in the fall. I think Wilson, Ivery, and Jimmerson will see the lion's share of the carries this season.

MGB: Moore named to watch list for Groza Award
Side Show Joe replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not surprised Moore is on the list. This kid is a great kicker. He far as positions go, he is probably the best player on our team. He is good enough to win it. -
Remind me of why it's impossible again
Side Show Joe replied to emmitt01's topic in Mean Green Football
We all know there are certain financial constraints and alumni support issues that keep North Texas from being able accomplish some things. But, in many areas our athletic department has gone far beyond what some of us could have dreamed of just 10 seasons ago. Apogee Stadium is amazing. Being in C-USA West with Rice, UTEP, LA Tech, Southern Miss, and even UTSA is a huge improvement over the old Sun Belt. And, any reasonable person will concede Mac is a far better coach then Dodge. Of course there are things we still need to improve on. OOC scheduling is not what many would expect it to be at this point. Attendance is not what many had hoped it would be. And worst of all, we are coming off a terrible 4-8 season after winning the HOD. Many on this board look at the schedule, look at the seniors we lost, and look at the QB situation and they have concerns about the upcoming season. No one is going to change any opinions on these issues. This season is going to be what it is going to be. Arguing with each other won't change anything. We should focus on what we have in common, our support of the Mean Green, even if we have different ideas about how we think things should be done. Fall camp is about to start, and maybe it is time to refocus on the positives and get ready to support our team. -
2015 college football preseason rankings (No. 114) UNT
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
That article is a very fair assessment. If you consider we have a bye week to start the year, followed by 12 straight weeks of games, and only 5 home games, it certainly makes for a very difficult schedule for the Mean Green.- 13 replies

If McNulty makes the grade will you step down?
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
TD had an unbelievable HOD game. One for the ages. But, all season long we hounded his turnover to TD ratio, and lack of down field passing. TD had a few really good games, but people forget our defense had an incredible ability to take the ball away from other teams and score. We had an inflated points per game average because our D was so good, and that helped compensate for an offense that at times came up short. McNulty didn't enjoy the luxury of playing with a defense like that in 2014, but I don't think he was asked to play as tough of a schedule either. On paper, 2015 looks to be our toughest schedule since joining C-USA. I can't think of one North Texas fan that feels comfortable with our QB situation heading into the fall. Lack of confidence at the most important position is bad for moral when you are trying to grow a program. -

When we head down to Ford Stadium, I will cheer for the waterboy if Mac sends him in at QB, because I love North Texas. I really hope I'm wrong and McNulty has a solid senior season, but I don't see it happening. I don't care how many times people write about McNulty's 342 yard 3 TD spring game. I was there. I saw the blown coverages by a bad 2nd team secondary that allowed him to complete wide open passes for long TDs. I saw passes thrown late into coverage that would have been picked off by a first team C-USA secondary. If I remember correctly, McNulty didn't complete half of his passes in the spring game. When people look closely, there is evidence of what we can expect. If people are expecting him to put up 250-300 yards and game next season, they are probably in for a rude awakening. I hope I'm wrong and he can step up and get it done. I know he will start the season, but I'm not happy that we never had a real QB competition in the spring, and I believe our QB issues are far from resolved. I will not be surprised if we are in for a long season. -
Happy Birthday.

Your Favorite Coach Since Fry?
Side Show Joe replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
Had to vote for Dickey. The man took teams to 4 bowls and beat Cincinnati in one. Mac's teams have a bowl appearance with a win over UNLV, but struggled last season. Hard to judge his place when he is still on the job. -

I think those teams would want return games now. Idaho was desperate to fill their schedule back when we hosted them. But, like I stated, we need name P5s playing us on our turf too. -

I don't mind scheduling a FCS team at home every year, if it is our first game of the season. A nice scrimmage can be good for the players and fans. Plus it counts towards bowl eligibility. But... we need to start scheduling name P5 programs to visit Apogee every season too. I'm tired of watching North Texas hit the road to go pick up a check at some P5 university, while programs like UTSA host them. And, I don't like seeing UNT head to Knoxville in November, when they should be getting ready to make a push for the western division title. It kind of sends the message "we won't be in the hunt anyway". I see no reason for us to do Tennessee favors. I really wish the athletic department would clarify their strategy behind scheduling, or at least give us their excuse for it. -
I'll be at the SMU game. I wish the conference would alternate Rice and UTSA as home games on our schedule. That would give us an easy Texas road trip every year. I don't like playing both either home or away in the same season.

Ranked #1, is still ranked #1. If I was RV I'd be using this obscure online ranking in our promotion efforts. Especially our efforts to bring back disenfranchised alums. People will be curious. Once they get out to Apogee and experience a game, some will be hooked. Come support your North Texas Mean Green this season @ Apogee Stadium, "The #1 Home Field Advantage in College Football!" as ranked by predictionmachine.com

I can appreciate your enthusiasm for creating a more efficient system, but I think it would be better if Mac just focused on fixing our issues on the field. I have to believe there are others within the North Texas system that can address these types of issues.

Welcome to the Mean Green Nation!

I can't speak to your issues with not getting emails from the athletic department. I've never had that problem. But, maybe RV could think about appointing a couple of Mean Green Club members to volunteer and help with fan outreach. I'm sure there are a few on this board that wouldn't mind. A few years back Kram and I think Emmett organized a few of us to go out and get schedule posters hung around the Denton area. It was a fun day. Things like that can make a difference.

Not to derail the conversation, but I just want to remind anyone that may have forgotten... today is the last day to renew your season tickets. Have a great day, and Go Mean Green!
