  1. It's what is being reported.
  2. Matt Campbell or Kendall Briles.
  3. No self respecting coach would take a job and work for an AD that would fire him in the locker room right after a horrible loss. Plus, having two interim head coaches is just stupid.
  4. The last time Canales was asked to step in and coach the Mean Green after a horrible coach got fired, he led North Texas to a 33-6 whipping of WKU. Can he do it again on Thursday? #LocktheGatePart2 They can't fire the entire coaching staff in the middle of the season. RV needs to go by the end of Monday, so we can begin finding a new AD. The rest can finish out the season.
  5. Too bad no one will pull the trigger on firing Benford.
  6. Was the decision to fire Mac made by RV or did Smatresk make the call?
  7. I will always be grateful for the HOD winning season, but Mac had to go. His poor recruiting and stubbornness have driven this program into the ground. RV must go too. His leadership has turned every major sport at UNT into a laughingstock.
  8. How did this happen? 1. RV scheduled the wrong bodybag game for UNT. 2. Mac didn't recruit and coach a FBS quality (or FCS quality) North Texas team. 3. The university administration hasn't stepped in and addressed the obvious failures of our current athletic program.
  9. It's all in my Sig.
  10. Guys. Everyone is mad about what is happening. None of us are going to agree about how to deal with that anger, but lets not go after each other. We all love this program. We can all respectfully disagree. We will still be here long after this coach and AD are gone.
  11. I have to agree. It really is the most logical reason for his stubborn insistence on staying the course. But, I don't know if he gets 6 losses like Dodge did. A loss today would be a historic blunder and in the grand scheme of things, there isn't much difference from 0-5 and 0-6. I can't see Canales being the scapegoat for everything that's gone wrong over the past two seasons.
  12. I'm sure he is perceptive and understands the condition of the program, but he still needs to hear from the fan base. And, more importantly the fans need to hear from him. To my knowledge, he hasn't commented on our horrible start. It would be nice to know his opinion. I'm not saying scream at the man, but the tough questions need to be asked.
  13. It's Homecoming... If it goes bad, everyone need to corner Smatresk and every BOR member you can find. Let them know your opinion. When they finally gets home after the game and can't sit down, because none of them have an ass left, something might get done.
  14. Don't forget Orr, and Chancellor. That team had strong leadership in the locker room. I can't speculate on what is happening within this teams locker room, but now I see why the athletic department didn't renew "Beyond the Green". If I was in charge, I'd eliminate all the "behind-the-scenes" exposure of this dysfunctional lot too. It's a self serving move.
  15. I applaud your optimism, but I don't see it happening. If we see 2 or 3 wins this season, I will be amazed.
  16. My favorite place on campus was the area around the 1924 equestrian sculpture of artist Diego Velazquez by Constance Whitney Warren. The sculpture is located by the General Academic Building, and has wonderful shady trees and benches around it. It was a great place to enjoy a Cool Beans Burger and study between art classes.
  17. If we lose to Portland State, I hope it is raining.... so I can hide the tracks of my tears.
  18. I have no problem being listed in the Bottom 10, and I too am surprised we weren't #1. I'm not sure I approve of Mean Green fans yelling for a national spotlight to shine on our shame.
  19. It implies that Mac has a dated mindset, and refuses to embrace the modern philosophies coached at winning programs. I could care less about his age. His coaching philosophy worked years ago, but not today. Certainly not at G5 programs that lack the top tier talent the P5s enjoy.
  20. I think the game has passed Mac by. All of us have seen "Gamers" throughout our days playing the game, and we know they exist at the college level too. Mac likes to argue that McNulty gets it done in practice and that is why he is our starter. The problem may be that getting it done in our practice is easier then getting it done against other FBS defenses. Many of us cautioned against McNulty being our starter heading into this season because we believed an 0-4 start would be a real probability. Smith should at least had quality snaps in the SMU and Texas games, and been starting since the Rice game. Would we still be 0-4? Maybe, but Smith would have learned. That is something Mac has deprived this QB and our team from doing, and now we are staring at the real possibility of losing to a FCS program and most likely seeing our first and only 0-12 season in our history. Smith can't be expected to develop timing and a comfortably with the receivers and backs if he doesn't have real game situations to develop it. I know Mac's not happy with the criticism most are throwing his way, but our embarrassing situation is the direct result of his failed plan, and stubbornness. We need new leadership. "Change is a weakness" - Coach McCarney
  21. Mac plays McNulty because he plans to win this game on the ground with Wilson, and running end-arounds with Harris. McNulty will dump it off to the TEs from time to time, but he should mostly be a hand off machine. Mac knows if we lose this game, he will lose what little support he still has within the fan base. I can't see Mac continuing the up tempo offense. We should try to control the clock with a run heavy offense and wear down PSU's defense. Our best defense will be keeping their offense off the field. Our running game is good enough to do that. If Mac sticks to the up tempo offense, then we probably lose, and he will only have himself to blame.
  22. North Texas 35 Portland State 28 Attendance: 17,000 People will show up because it is Homecoming, not as many as usual, but the crowd won't be a total letdown. If we have bad weather, then we could see a sub 10,000 attendance day. Portland State shouldn't be able to stop Wilson. Harris should make some serious yardage on end-arounds. The TEs should show up big for UNT. McNulty might even throw for over 175 and maybe even a TD. Jarrian Roberts should have a monster game teeing off on the PSU QB. I believe the Mean Green show some pride on Saturday, and change the conversation for one week. Smith should be playing in this game, but Mac is terrified of losing this one. I'm sure RV has discussed the state of the program after the USM collapse. Both know that if we lose to Portland State many fans will never forgive either of them. Mac wants the offense to find a rhythm. They can't do that if QBs are switching in and out, so McNulty will probably be the only QB to see the field. Although I believe we will win, it does not change my opinion that our athletic programs need new leadership. North Texas students, alums, fans, and administrators should not be expected to tolerate this.
  23. Terrible, but not surprising. I never would have thought that two seasons after winning the HOD we would be in this situation. We are facing the real possibility of losing to an FCS program and going 0-12 for the first time in our 102 years history. Our fan base cannot allow the administration to dismiss our demands for change. It is time to clean house, not just fire some position coach or coordinator. Smatresk needs to take charge of this mess.
  24. You are right, and I will correct my statement. Ivery had a good game. Too bad much of it came in garbage time against the USM backups. Ivery should have seen more time earlier in the game. He played better then Jimmerson. Harris also had a good game. Too bad the three other players that caught passes only netted 65 yards. Like the rest of the team, something is very wrong in our receiving corp this season. Our kickers did well too.
  25. My Five Quick Thoughts... 1. Portland State could be the most important game in our history. I know it's sad, but it might be true. North Texas has never had a season where we have failed to win a single game, unless you count our first year of football, 102 years ago, when we went 0-1 against TCU in 1913. Let that sink in. 2. Mac has led this team to a worse start then Dodge did. The numbers don't lie. 3. We will be crowned #1 in the Bottom 25. Going into the USM game we were already in second place. No, it isn't a real poll, but it isn't the kind of publicity we want. Of course SMU is the reigning Bottom 25 Champ, and they did get a new coach out of it. But, in our case, that's probably not enough to turn this program around. 4. Attendance will be bad for Portland State. If we lose, our attendance for the Thursday night WKU game will look worse then a Tuesday night MAC crowd, and I won't even speculate on how bad the score will be. 5. Smatresk needs to step up and lead. Changes need to be made, and I don't mean letting Canales be the scapegoat. The problem is bigger then just him. Lots of blame to go around.
