Didn't Oregon swipe Eastern Washington's QB? -
How should the new coach handle the QB position?
Side Show Joe replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
We're in a big hole here. We have to get creative in cobbling together a respectable passing game next season. We can't expect a true freshman to handle the job, and a Juco QB is a crap shoot. We need to look elsewhere... We need to lure a top QB from the FCS. KD Humphries the Jr. QB at Murray State threw for 3778 yards and 22 TDs so far this season. He is 6'3" 225. Won't have to sit and can practice and play right away -
I don't follow Harris on Twitter, but I'm wondering how many Mean Green fans will continue after his antics today?
-
Under the current rules of college football, it is a 15 yard penalty and an ejection, and it hurt our team. His behavior after the play was horrendous.

Canales just said in the post game interview that he planned on playing all three QBs today. I guess he wasn't all that interested in winning today after all. McNulty was McNulty, until he got knocked out of the game. And Greer came in for his reliable Interception. Smith struggled, but was better then the other two. Sadly, our defense and special teams played well enough to win this game. In my opinion, Canales' handling of the offense, in particularly the QB position, was the biggest reason we lost. ....and Harris' embarrassing targeting penalty.

Canales wanted to play all three QBs.

I know. Harris had a great mentor in Brelan Chancellor, but could step up and be the leader this team needed. I hope some trainer is cleaning out his locker at this moment.

So what exactly happened on the Carlos Harris penalty?
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
He launched his shoulder into the head of a defenseless player. -
Harris just embarrassed the entire Mean Green Nation on Fox Sports Southwest. I know he has made some big contributions to our bowl season success, but I'm glad he is gone. There is no excuse for celebrating a targeting penalty. Terrible.

I can. Down the corridor of years 2-10 looks better then 1-11.

This is what happens when the "minute few" lose interest on a Thanksgiving Weekend with bad weather. Lots of empty chair-backs.

I wonder if Meacham is at the game sizing up the rebuilding job he would be stepping into?
-
How about we just run the Wildcat with Wilson in the gun? It would be more effective then McNulty taking the snaps. Is Canales trying to give us the finger on the way out the door?
-
I like Littrell, but Meacham just seems like a better fit. This is a good video that explains how he improved TCU's offense and mentions what he did at Houston too. He also discusses his stops on the way to TCU.
-
This is an excellent video that gives great insight into his offensive scheme. I really like the way he thinks. To be honest, I think both he and Meacham have a solid understanding of modern college offenses.

And the there were two: Meacham and Littrell
Side Show Joe replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
Didn't know that, but it doesn't change the fact that he seems to lacks the Texas recruiting ties our next head coach will need. And, although UNC is having a very nice season, they are not getting the same press TCU is in the Texas communities we recruit from. I'm sure he is a fine coach, but I don't think he is the right guy for us. I think Meacham is the better fit. Upon further review, either would be nice, but I still like Meacham's ties to the Texas recruiting landscape. -

No to Littrell. Dude's not even one of the OCs on the UNC staff. I'll stick with Meacham. -
In regard to the recruits, I'd argue that neither would really have name recognition. Major is well known to us older fans, but few of these high school kids know what Applewhite did at Texas. I think Meacham can get more mileage out of telling recruits he coached Boykin and ran that TCU offense.
-
Sorry, but Chambers is not the man we need to fix our problems. No way RV signs him. He doesn't have any of the qualities that have been sited as important for the next coach. The divisions within our fan base would only widen.
-
Just an idea. I didn't say it was likely to happen. It could only happen if we were willing to pay quite a bit more then the $300 K Houston is paying him. I like that too.
-
If we could land Meacham as our head coach and he lured Applewhite over to be the OC/QB coach, that would be big.

Doug Meacham linked to UNT job (247 Sports)
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like 247 watches this board. -
I don't think we can really set expectations for next season until we see what kind of recruiting class the new coach can cobble together. Even then, he will need some time to develop the players for his offensive and defensive schemes.
-
Don't know which players he recruited to TCU, but the guy is no stranger to Texas football. He was at Houston before going to TCU and coached for Oklahoma State for 8 years before that, so he has experience recruiting in Texas. He has a lengthy record of getting college offenses to produce at every stop in his career. Plus he's from Arlington. The list of head coaching jobs is growing by the week. Guess we will see how this thing shakes out in the next few days or weeks.

I like Meachum and would be very happy if we hired him. He has experience running and play calling a high powered Texas offense and has been around a while. I also think it is important that he comes from a program that understand how critical a strong defense is too. I think he could build North Texas into a solid program.
