  1. C-USA is more like Rosanne Barr. Never a looker, but had some notoriety back in the day. The Sun Belt is like Mama June. The MWC is like Kourtney Kardashian. A B-list star that's birthed a few kids, but still better then what we got now.
  2. Yes, but I want Rice, UTEP, and UTSA going with us. The last media deal indicates C-USA has regressed and is now on the level with the MAC and Sun Belt. The MWC is a step up.
  3. I don't know how the NCAA would feel about it, but I'd love to see us develop a voluntary summer camp, where our players could interact and learn from our best former players. I like the video, but think there football talk could be taken further. Lets get Craig and Zach to work with the whole LB corp for like a week. Let them break down film, but also demonstrate and practice better technique with our guys. And do the same for the other units too.
  4. 205 is a great section. MeanGreenTexan and I could use some more fans in there making noise.
  5. I strongly disagree. Coaching matters too. Benford inherited a more talented roster from Jones, but couldn't even finish above .500. The Mean Green ended up 4th in the Belt that season. I can't see him doing better in the C-USA that is better at basketball.
  6. Baker has a lot on his plate. I know there are fires all over the department that need to be addressed, but Benford needs to go. The man has run the show for four seasons. There is already plenty to evaluate. I see no need to drag this out another season.
  7. For those wondering, I was told by the ticket office that season tickets will go out sometime this week or next week. It is a vague answer, but considering all that is going on right now, I can understand. Hopefully, they will be able to pin down a more accurate date and send out an email, and maybe post it as a header on the meangreensports site.
  8. RV should have been let go with Todd Dodge. I know Mac got us a New Year's Day bowl win, but he didn't build us a winning program. Personally, I think last season is the worst in program history. I don't think we could be in a worse spot heading into another round of realignment.
  9. Thanks guys. I'll call the ticket office tomorrow and see if I can get a date from them. I'll post my findings on here, for those like me that view those tickets in the mail box like a second birthday.
  10. Anyone know when they get mailed out?
  11. The first thing the new AD needs to do is get his staff in place. I suspect there will be a good deal of turnover. The second thing I would like to see him do is develop a real marketing campaign that targets the cities and towns in Denton County and the counties surrounding it. These counties comprise the majority of our alumni population. For the Mean Green Nation to grow, we must find a way to generate more fan support from these counties where we have a numerical advantage over every other alumni base. Our numbers from these counties, combined with our student population, are more then enough to sell out Apogee on a regular basis, if we can become a consistent winner. Third, I'd like him to develop a plan to elevate the Mean Green's recruiting performance. Figure out how to get top level recruits to North Texas, just like Houston does.
  12. How about we all get some gomeangreen.com t-shirts made with our screen names on the back, and hang a banner in that area. It would be a great place to meet up before games to watch warm-ups, and at the half, to discuss our observations.
  13. I was certainly not a blue chip QB. There was no college football in my future. But when it came time to pick my university, Texas and Rice were on the table. I chose North Texas. Why be the next in line, when you can trailblaze a new path. If someone is good enough to do something, they don't need to be at X university to stand out and get noticed. But, to take the road less traveled, you have to believe in yourself. Let's find those guys.
  14. If we get a great AD, and our programs rise to become dominant in college sports, then it will be money very well spent. If we continue to stink for another decade, then it will be a complete waste.
  15. "UNT has filled out its nonconference schedule by hosting a team from the Football Championship Subdivision in three of its five years in Apogee. UNT will play Bethune-Cookman, another team from the lower FCS ranks, this fall. Those games against FCS programs haven’t sparked the interest of UNT fans. “Rick [Villarreal] told everyone that we were going to bring in better opponents and have better scheduling when we opened Apogee,” McKinney said. “That never happened.”" This, combined with practically a decade of losing, is what has fractured our fan base. Don't know why the university need to hire people to tell them that.
  16. Bussey is a special athlete. Many that follow high school football in the Lawton area, were shocked he didn't land at a Big 12 school. He should do some great things before he leaves North Texas.
  17. This is exactly what RV said when he was running the show, and exactly why Hank cannot be our new AD.
  18. I don't think this is the guy we need right now. We need to find someone with experience successfully guiding a G5 athletic department. Give me Mike O'Brien from Toledo. Toledo has had 9 winning seasons in his 12 years as AD, and hasn't produced a losing season in football since 2009. I believe O'Brien is currently making around $209,000 at Toledo. We were paying RV $300,000, so this guy should be in our price range. Here are some excerpts from his bio, and link... "Since becoming the school’s 13th athletic director on Jan. 22, 2002, the Rockets have won or shared 29 MAC division, regular-season and tournament titles in the sports of football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, men’s golf, women’s soccer, women’s swimming, baseball and women’s volleyball. In that same span, UT has made eight bowl appearances in football" "Among O’Brien’s other accomplishments are adding Ohio State, Miami (FL), Colorado, Purdue, Arizona, Missouri, Navy, Fresno State, Boise State, BYU, Iowa State and Cincinnati to the home football schedule" "Previous to his appointment at UT, O’Brien had 15 years of experience in athletics administration at four universities, Kansas State (associate A.D., 1997-2001), Lamar (athletic director, 1993-97)" http://utrockets.com/staff.aspx?staff=1
  19. I usually refer to us as North Texas. I also call us UNT, but prefer NT. I wish we would place more of a focus on marketing our university as "NT", especially once we have our baseball program. I think a stylized "NT" on the jersey's would look very nice.
  20. I really like this hire. This young man has deep respected Texas football ties (grandson of John David Crow), experience at top college programs (Alabama & Texas A&M), and experience at a G5 program (Fresno State) where I'm sure he gained an understanding for the obstacles programs like ours face.
  21. If I had a say, I'd reassign Benford. I'd then name Evans interim head coach for this season, and let him pick his own assistant. Our basketball program was a source of pride when Jones left for LSU. I can't understand the logic in believing the coach responsible for our demise could figure out how to resurrect us off the slab. History and the odds are against Benford leading us to a successful season. Avoiding the inevitable only sets our basketball program back another year. I believe our girls will have a successful season (over .500). If Benford would have been let go when Petersen was shown the door, we would be a season into a new era, and more North Texas fans might be excited about this upcoming basketball season.
  22. Every fan should have one of these. It's the Mean Green version of a Bluebonnet portrait. No, I didn't sculpt it, but I would have.
  23. I don't think that guy was one of the snipers.
  24. Best news I've heard tonight. Thank you for posting this.
  25. Thanks for the update on our Mean Green brethren. Hopefully we hear from them soon. I'll keep them and the other Dallas officers in my prayers. It is going to be a long night.
