Adopter Player(s) Results vs UAB
Side Show Joe replied to AustinFromUNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Jeffery "The Jet" Wilson vs. UAB 26 carries for 211 yards with a TD Wilson averaged 8.1 yards a carry. Aside from the 2 fumbles, it was an outstanding game for him. On the season, Wilson has 63 carries for 518 yards and 6 TDs, and averaged 8.2 yards a carry. Wilson is easily the leading rusher in C-USA, averaging 129.5 yards per game, and he leads all running backs with 6 TDs. -
The Athletic website simply refers to the new flag as "the big North Texas flag". While that is certainly accurate, it doesn't have much pizzazz. We need an official name for the flag and a slogan or something. Lets come up with something catchy. How about... Names The North Texas Battle Flag... aka The Green Glory... aka the Green Monster Slogans The Towering Texas Tradition The Biggest Tradition in College Football That's all I could come up with at the moment. Any suggestions?

Official UAB Game Score Prediction Thread
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
UAB is the top rated rushing team in the conference. North Texas has done a good job of shutting down the run through three games this season. Lamar 86 yards rushing in Week 1 SMU 69 yards rushing in Week 2 Iowa 112 yards rushing in Week 3 I don't believe UAB can run the ball as well as Iowa. And, UAB has yet to prove they can effectively pass the ball. Our defense could have a huge game. North Texas has the top rated offense in C-USA. We can pass the ball and run the ball. To me this looks like a perfect storm for the Mean Green to make a big statement. The list of blow outs was just to place my prediction in perspective. -

I'm not disappointed in the loss. We played much better then many expected. I am disappointed in our inability to stop Iowa from running to the outside in the second half. Our D just spent too much time on the field in the second half. Iowa made halftime adjustments and our offense struggled in the second half. The Good Fine played well most of the game, and was not hurt. Shanbour looked very capable when he got in the game during quality minutes. The D-line can stop the run up the middle (imagine how good they could be once English returns). Receivers made plays on catchable balls. The Bad Special Teams... Can we please find a punter? The secondary.... They should be a strength. They need to play like it. Our front seven struggled with the outside run. Iowa exposed our lack of depth. Questions After This Game Did we suffer serious injuries? Will our coaches do something to address our Special Team issues? (punting, punt blocks,...) Can any of our linemen challenge Barr or Murray for their starting jobs? Is our team playing at a level high enough to compete for C-USA's Western Division?

I disagree. They may build something on the hill at some point. But, the lowest land surrounding the stadium is not optimal. It would be much better if the flag were located between the Alumni Pavilion and Apogee. It is much higher land and I doubt there are any plans to build there. Still in the heart of tailgating. Visible from both freeways. And, would create a great view from the stadium, especially if we ever get a home game on TV. If some on this board thinks this opinion makes me a bad fan, I can't help that. Go Mean Green!
-
Love the flag, not the location. It should have been placed right in heart of the tailgating section on the top of the hill, where it would be seen from everywhere. There are never going to build a hotel there anyway.

In recent years the MAC has had no P5 bowl tie, and the Sun Belt never has. Even though our media deal was gone and our conference hasn't been stellar in the field, we still had a P5 bowl tie. This news officially places C-USA at the lowest levels of the FBS. Very sad.
-
Not my favorite episode. It was hard to watch knowing the SMU lowlights were on the way. Interesting how all of the clips of the our "wild cat" first half were left on the cutting room floor. Makes me wonder who has final cut?
-
This is why C-USA never should have sold the HOD to ESPN. Our commissioner should be fired. This is crap. If this is true, C-USA has just officially been relegated to the same level as the MAC and Sun Belt. I'll be calling the C-USA office. I will not attend or watch an HOD Bowl that does not feature a C-USA team.

Official Iowa Game Score Prediction Thread
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
After what I saw against SMU, I feel I need to base my prediction on a few possibilities. If we actually "Let it Fly".... North Texas 38 Iowa 41 If we run a gimmick "Wild Cat" for the first half.... North Texas 17 Iowa 66 -

Darden got the job done. Too bad it took a game and a half for our special teams coach to figure that out.
-
I didn't read about this talent gap when he picked North Texas to win this game. (scratching my head) No, I'll continue to believe we got out coached, and had a bad game plan. Does SMU have an edge in talent? Yes, but not big enough to route us like they did last night. The majority of last night's performance was a result of being out-coached and unprepared. That falls on the coaching staff. They need to own it.
-
Yes we lost in terrible fashion last night. Yes some issues from last season (O-line) still have not been adequately addressed. Yes, our defense didn't get enough pressure on Hicks. Yes, I too am severely frustrated with the lack of down field passing in the first half, due to poor play calling/game plan. And, I'm beyond frustrated with our special teams coaching.... But, this team has the talent to win a lot of football games this season. Fine has improved from last season, and our receivers looked good last night. Our defensive front did a solid job against SMU rushing attack, and held them to only 76 yards. Are we going to challenge for the access bowl? Probably not. But, we certainly have enough talent and ability to contend with most of the teams in C-USA. Some on here may not agree with this opinion, but I believe we need to hold the coaches accountable... to the extent we can. We as a fan base have to demand better game plans and play calling going forward. The players deserve better play calling. If mistakes are not being corrected from week to week, we as a fan base need to call out the coaches on it. I think we can do these things without quitting on our team, or demonizing fellow Mean Green fans. We are all in this together, and it is very early in the season. If things get corrected, we could still have a bowl team.

I'd fire him. Biagi should have discovered Darden needed to be our punt returner before the season started, not in week 2.
-
Looked great early, but coaching let us down. The double reverse was a stupid call, and instead of going into the "wild cat" all first half, we should have be taking shots down field. SMU's secondary isn't that good. Our O-line still has issues. It says "Let It Fly" on the back of our helmets... I had to wait until the second half before I saw us really try to go deep. Not happy with special teams coaching either.

Official SMU Game Score Prediction Thread
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreenTexan's topic in Mean Green Football
Our punt return needs some work. If Littrell can get that taken care of before Saturday night... North Texas 52 SMU 24 -
Wilson had a great game. 12 carries 176 yards and 3 TDs. A 14.67 yard per carry average. Wilson also had a 4 yard catch to finish with 180 total yards to lead all players.

I love it! The athletic department should develop this into a local marketing campaign (commercials, billboards, radio spots,...). This is funny and would certainly generate more interest in what is happening up in Denton. I can see it now.... "There are fans, and there are Mean Green Fans... Are you fan enough? Go Mean Green!!!"

Yes, we need more help. See you tonight @MeanGreenTexan! Glad to have you in the 205. It won't take long for you to figure out which guys we are.

Seems like a good list of priorities folks on here have been wanting. Hope the athletic department can get things done within the time-frame they have set.

Best and Worst Moments as a UNT fan
Side Show Joe replied to untjim1995's topic in Mean Green Football
Best- Halloween 2013. That morning I delivered the bronze bust of "Mean" Joe Greene to the athletic office. ESPN trucks were already on location preparing for that night's game with Rice. Security was tight around the athletic center. That evening I lost my voice while cheering my Mean Green on to one of the great all-time victories in the program's history. Worst- The Portland State game, and it's not even close. By the time this game came around, I was already quite frustrated with the direction, or lack there of, our program had taken. I was devastated that McNulty had earned the starting QB job, and just didn't see an improved team take the field to start that season. I no longer had confidence in the leadership of McCarney, or RV. If you go back and look at the old threads leading up to the game, I was questioning if we could win it. I stayed home on Homecoming and listened to the game on 88.1. I was disgusted by the outcome of that game. -
Houston area thoughts and prayer
Side Show Joe replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll be praying for your family in Bacliff. As everyone from that region knows, nothing like this has ever happened in the Houston area. Although it appears things are getting better right now, this is far from over , and the worst could still be on the way.
