Lane Kiffin will most likely not be at FAU to kick our ass next season. Some larger program is sure to snatch him up. Probably before they even play their bowl game.

***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***

Although I don't think it destroys the entire season, I feel your pain, and somewhat agree. I have no points left to give, but if I did you would get a +1 for this comment. -
***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***

I wonder if the coaches did those 800+ Up Downs with the team after the last FAU loss? If they didn't they should this time. -

Nope. Not if we go to the NO Bowl. -
***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
We didn't look like a 9 win in the 1st half. In fact, we didn't even look like a bowl team in the 1st half. Who is to blame? -
That isn't a very good reason in my opinion. If I broke some rule, then I would understand. Just because some of the fan base doesn't like my opinion doesn't justify the lock. If you don't like the thread then don't read it. If threads can be blocked just because some don't agree with the ideas, then why bother having forum rules in the first place?

***OFFICIAL UNT VS. FAU C-USA CONF CHAMP GAME THREAD***
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I didn't think we would win today, but I didn't expect us to look this bad. Reffett should have been replaced earlier in the season. -
Why was my thread locked? I don't believe I broke any of the forum rules. Please explain.
-
Ha! I guess it kind of came out that way. But, to be totally honest, I don't care about my points. If I did, I wouldn't be ranting about this topic. I know it is rubbing some old guard fans the wrong way. I know some just want those that think like me to fall in line and focus on supporting our team. But this isn't about supporting our team. When they kick the ball off in about 30 minutes we will all be supporting our team. This is about the direction of our program, and the standard we expect. The New Orleans Bowl vs. a Belt team, just doesn't meet my standard.

Brett McMurphy says North Texas Lock for NOLA
Side Show Joe replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I would much rather play Colorado State in the New Mexico Bowl. The New Orleans Bowl is Old Denton. I'm sure the Belt team that lands there will be a good team, but if we wanted to watch our team play Sun Belt teams we could have just stayed in the Sun Belt. Again, I won't spend good money ($1,200-$1,500, maybe more) to travel to New Orleans and watch that bowl. Accepting that bowl will be a mistake. Our leadership needs to do better.- 418 replies

Again, I'd give you a +1 if I could. Very sound logic.

Sorry I cannot give you a +1 for this. I have apparently run out of +1's after being on the board for 5 minutes. Why are there even limits on giving out points?

Since the other thread got locked... As I wake up this morning preparing to watch our Mean Green fight for the C-USA Conference Championship, I can not believe our big topic is arguing over the bowl destination of our team. Once again we are a fractured fan base. What a terrible way to finish a great season. This is a self inflected wound by our leadership. Someone, possibly several within our university, seriously misread how this would play with a large segment of our fan base. We are obviously still Old Denton. If we were New Denton, this epic blunder (New Orleans Bowl vs. a Sun Belt team) wouldn't even be a possible scenario. I just can't believe North Texas will accept an invitation to the NO Bowl on Dec. 16th, which is the same day as some North Texas graduation ceremonies, happening at 8am., 11am., 2pm., and 5pm.. Is Smatresk planning on skipping graduation? No one on this board, or in our administration will ever convince me that the NO Bowl is the best we could do. Hopefully, it is not too late to land in a better bowl.

Terrible if true. I expect better from our leadership. I don't expect much of a Mean Green turnout either. I know I will not pay good money to travel and watch a match up with a Sun Belt team. The New Orleans Bowl is an Old Denton destination. In a side note... I think this is a terrible article. Brett had a chance to hold our athletic department to a higher standard, but he did not. He didn't even bother to mention that the NO Bowl falls on the same day as UNT's graduation. Lets be honest. Our team is finishing an amazing offensive season, with an undefeated home record, and we may very well get sent to the kiddie table for bowl season. We will watch other C-USA teams (that we beat), play in bowls with better opponents. The worst part about it is our athletic department, local media, and even some on this board, want to try and serve us poop and call it steak.

First, congratulations on your upcoming graduation, and welcome to the alumni side of the stadium in 2018. Your issue with a New Orleans Bowl birth is a real dilemma. I have to believe we have some football players that are set to graduate too. Those graduating should be afforded an opportunity to attend our bowl this season too. You and others about to graduate should call the athletic department and express your concern. And, if this were the case with a different bowl I would say the exact same thing.

What is New Denton vs. Old Denton vs. Real Denton
Side Show Joe replied to shaft's topic in Mean Green Football
No. The New Orleans Bowl was the only tie the Sun Belt had in those days. In 2003, there were no other options, and the NO Bowl was a great opportunity for a North Texas program that had recently moved back into the highest level of college football. In 2017, the New Orleans Bowl is just Old Denton. -

Old Denton went to the New Orleans Bowl. Let's not be Old Denton. -
I love my Mean Green. I have followed them for years, and will continue to be a die hard season ticket holder, and support them. I never stated anything to suggest otherwise. In relation to this topic...Today at work, I spent all day in meetings, where 7 co-workers either had North Texas stickers on their vehicles, or were wearing UNT polos. Some, like me, had both. These co-workers were very excited about the season we have had, and they are proud of where UNT is now. These are not fans like us. They don't blog on here. These are the disconnected alums the athletic department has always dreamed of reengaging. I live in a small town of 10K, about an hour and a half away from Denton. These people will travel to DFW for a bowl featuring North Texas. Some, maybe most, would even travel to Shreveport to watch the Mean Green face an ACC or another P5 program. But, they are not going to travel to New Orleans to watch the Mean Green face a Sun Belt team. Today, a few even commented on how glad they were that North Texas has moved on from the old Belt days. I didn't have the heart to spread this as yet unsubstantiated rumor of the NO Bowl. I'm telling you, if the athletic department takes the NO Bowl verses a Belt team, our attendance at the game will not be too great. And, I'm dead serious. I won't go watch us play a Sun Belt team in the NO Bowl either. My opinion may ruffle some feathers on here, and in the athletic department, but I don't care. I expect better. Our athletic department can and should get us a better bowl situation. I will be shocked if Wren accepts a bid to face a Belt program in the New Orleans Bowl.
-
If we go and play a Sun Belt team in the NO Bowl, it will look very much like the early 2000's. I'd hope those in charge at UNT and most on here would aspire to more then this. I'll say it again.. I will not go.

To each his own.

I don't like New Orleans. I don't drink. I have zero interest in traveling there to watch us play a Sun Belt team. You have fun.
-
The athletic department needs to listen to the fans. Our best opportunity is in either the Heart of Dallas Bowl or the Independence Bowl. If C-USA sends another team to those bowls to play a P5, or even a team from another G5, while we are stuck in the NO Bowl with a Sun Belt team, then there will be hell to pay.
