Will the La. Tech game be a sellout? (POLL)
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
If 4-0, votes in both polls, and wins against Arkansas and SMU are not enough to sell out Apogee then we are not promoting this game enough. We are running TV, and radio ads in DFW, right? -
Link: http://www.latechbbb.com/forum/showthread.php?141768-North-Texas-tickets-location Ha! Some of these LT fans are getting paranoid. You should post Vito's article about Champions' Weekend on their site and watch their fan base have a meltdown. It would be fun.

Just less than 3 years ago (Oct 10, 2015), a day that will live in UNT infamy, our Mean Green were taken to the woodshed by Portland State. McCarney was officially done. Our fan base was fractured, and some on this board were fed up and had enough. UNT90 and some others went to an extreme measure to motivate change within the university. That change has lead us to where we are now. A respectable FBS program, with quality leadership. Our fundamental philosophy of how our athletic programs should be ran has changed. North Texas no longer seeks out body bag games, but works for quality home and home match ups. High caliber recruits are not an afterthought anymore, as we challenge quality FBS programs for these commits, and win our share of these battles. And, we now highlight our history, and are honoring our legends, like the Joe Greene statue soon to be installed. In short, we are now a program charting our own destiny. For perhaps the first time in forever, our future is in our hands. It is time for the Mean Green Nation to rise and claim all of North Texas. Dallas is not the property of SMU, despite the efforts of the DMN. And, Fort Worth does not belong to TCU either. Those cities are just a part of North Texas. Claim them. Not just on Mean Green Monday, but everyday. Go Mean Green!!!

I could see a vote or two being thrown our way. But, it will take weeks of running the table for us to land in the AP or Coaches Poll. Now, if LA Tech can pull off a miracle against LSU, then our match up on the 29th will get some real attention and the winner will be in the rankings.
-
Great win tonight. We take care of our business against Liberty, and what a crowd we should have on Sept. 29th against LA Tech.
-
ESPN has a nice article on this announcement, but I can't find anything from the Dallas Morning News. Not even a link to Vito's DRC story, which is part of their news organization. The DMN is just sad.

I don't think my idea for a sculpture was ever an option for Wren. Truth is, Hanlon is a top notch sculptor and we are fortunate to have him sculpting Joe Greene. Wren should be commended for selecting a truly talented sculptor. I know every member of the Mean Green Nation will be very proud of the results when it is unveiled before the LA Tech game. Here is an example of Hanlon's work. This is his Chuck Bednarik Statue.

Thanks. But, why are they waiting till the last minute to make an announcement? Is something changing?
-
The answer is easy. Home games at Apogee need to become the must attend events in Denton, regardless of what time our kickoff is at. How do we do that? Be creative. Play to our strengths. Wren is trying to do that. We have a wrasstling match after the SMU game. If I were in charge of this wrestling event, I would be holding a weigh in press conference today with the local 5pm news covering it. Then have arranged Stone Cold to show up and announce he will be the guest ref. I'd tweet it out and make sure ESPN got the news too. I'd have Stone Cold and Kevin Von Erich lead the team onto the field carrying battle flags. I'd cut the band's halftime show in half (They won't be decked out in band uniforms anyway), and have Stone Cold and Kevin lead the fans in the North Texas chant. In short, we need to create something that can't be experienced while watching on your couch, and we have to promote it.

Has anyone heard anything about BTG? It's a great program and advertisement for our program. With our team poised to have a big season, this is the season we need it on TV. Harry, I know you have to know something.

2018 UNT vs. SMU FB Opener Attendance Predictions
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
25-28K. I think SMU fans will travel better then usual. I think they want to see what they have in Dykes. But, I would not be surprised if we had a larger attendance number. Wren seems to have a knack for covertly arranging special incentives to being in extra bodies.- 86 replies

Does your spouse or significant other support your UNT habit?
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes. My wife is with me at home games. This morning she told me about the "Attendance" thread here on GoMeanGreen. She follows. Knows the main players. And, wears Mean Green apparel. -
With the whatever pick we are currently at.... I select Cudjoe Young. You don't go out and recruit a juco WR into a unit like the one we have returning, unless he is going to belly up to the table and eat. I think this guy will be a real weapon this season.

I think the structure distracts from the overall look of Ford, and fails to blend with the architecture. It also messes up some of the sight lines to the end zone. Not that they have fans sitting there. SMU has money. I'm surprised they couldn't design something nicer.

New UNT "Pump-Up" Music Ideas for 2018 FB season
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I love this, but most probably won't understand the history of the song in Texas. -
1. UAB- I think this road game could decide who wins C-USA West. 2. LA Tech- This will probably be the toughest divisional home game this season. 3. SMU- We need to jockey ahead of the Mustangs this season. If we do, we could stay there for the foreseeable future. DFW will have a hard time ignoring that. 4. UTSA- I will never accept losing to them. 5. FAU- We can't get the crap beaten out of us for a 3rd straight game. 6. Arkansas- It would be a statement win on the road, and we could do it. 7. ODU- This will be a difficult trip to the east. 8. Southern Miss- Two in a row against USM sends a message. Being bowl eligible after week 7, sends a bigger message. 9. Rice- We should beat our conference mate from Houston. 10. UTEP- Going undefeated against the other C-USA Texas programs is important for recruiting, and UTEP is awful. 11. Liberty- Got to beat the new kid. 12. Incarnate Word- FCS program

New UNT "Pump-Up" Music Ideas for 2018 FB season
Side Show Joe replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I can't remember how to post an actual youtube video, so you have to click on the link. Sorry. A great song by a former student, and it should be played during timeouts when UNT is going into victory formation at the end of home games. I'd prefer it were accompanied by a highlight video and lyrics on the scoreboards. I'd also encourage Mean Green fans to sing along, so that when the song stops at the end of the timeout, the opposing team, and TV/streaming viewers at home will still here it echoing through Apogee as the clock winds down on our opponents' losses. That would be an original tradition that no other team has. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52a_w3iQAPE -
C-USA never should have sold this bowl to ESPN. If legal, North Texas should subsidize the $300K for Dallas to host the HOD for the next two seasons, provided we are the first option when bowl eligible. I would hope the city of Denton partnered would partner with North Texas and consider negotiating with ESPN to have the game moved to Apogee after the current deal with the Cotton Bowl expires. Boise had a pretty good deal with the Potato bowl for a number of years, and it allowed Boise to grow their program.

Congratulations. I'm very happy for you.

I'm hoping it doesn't come to that. I'd like him to go 8 for 8 on extra point attempts, with maybe a field goal or two mixed in.

Agreed. The office has a nice view, although I wish it was bigger. You bring up a good point about the families, but I think it even goes beyond that. Littrell's office, as well as Baker's, needs to project a positive message about the direction of our athletics to the media, conference officials (C-USA & others), and administrators & coaches from of the universities. And most important, it needs to project a positive message about how we value our coach. North Texas football is moving in the right direction. We all know Littrell's name is being floated for other jobs. We probably can't offer the same kind of space the interested universities can, but we need to improve on what we have now. Like all successful college coaches, I'm sure Littrell spends most of his time at the AC. Baker needs to improve his office situation. You can see the Texas Tech head coaches office at the 1:32 mark. It isn't OU or Alabama, but it's still much nicer then ours. https://youtu.be/Blc08jWT484

Thanks. That's good to hear. On film he seems to have a longer wingspan then most of the 6'3" DE's I've seen. -
