In the intrest of fairness, Dodge didn't have to qb against Bama or Troy, and Tune played better then Dodge in the Arkansas State game. His long ball got us back in the game, and Dunbar was still running great. If he got in sooner,we may have even won.

I think we have a 75% chance of losing 9 games in 2010. With the success of tcu and smu, and our record, I give us a 60% chance of taking a hit in recruiting. 80% chance we have a lower attendence next season. And I give Dodge a 49% chance of finishing next season as the head coach. How confident are you in your feelings about our situation?

Darrell Dickey Deserves An Apology!

I don't normally agree with your posts, but I must say, on this topic I think you are spot on. Great post. -
This ia bad. I feel like I got kicked in the junk. If we average 15000 a game next year, ill be suprized.

I feel we stand to lose much more if we go the rout of trying to keep Dodge and replace a few of his coaches. I cant think of three respectable assistant coaches that will jump on our sinking ship, knowing that if this team posts another bad season, they will be gone, with the rest of the staff, and get to put the experience on their resume. I just dont feel the kind of assistant coaches we would want are going to want to join a staff that would have such a high probability of unemployment after next season.

After the quotes made about Dodge not willing to let go of some of the coaches, is the situation at an impass. If so, can we steal Frank Solich away from Ohio? He did beat us with less talent, and has Ohio playing for the MAC championship.
-
If Dodge is out the door, I say hire a consultant to assist the university in the search for our next coach. Maybe Hayden Fry? It seems every great coach in college today learned from him, and he could help to sell our program. What do you guys think?

Go. This team has the talent to be 5-6 or better. They are 2-9 because of the coaching, not the talent. At some point you have to say, keeping him is not fair to the players. This team has improved, but certain aspects of the coaching have not. Two timeouts to call a field goal, going into this season without a reliable kicker, calling an option with the QB lined up 4 yards deep in the end zone, and an inability to adjust to game situations in the 4th quarter are not what I call improvements. I think Dodge is a good guy, but we are opening a new stadium in two years. I don't want to go into the new stadium with a string of 10 loss seasons.

Congrats to the volleyball team. Great job beating both ULM and ULL this weekend! Good luck against New Orleans.

I didn't want to air the guy's dirty laundry, but yes, you guys are both right. I guess there wasn't an ethics course requirement back then.

Today some 16 year old amateur finished 2 over for the tournament. I'd love to get this kid on our team. Go Watson! And go Mean Green!

Lets start a woman's field hockey team too. I'd go watch that.

I can't wait 'til we have a baseball team, and I have an idea for helping with the title 9 issue. We can start a woman's sand volleyball team.

Yeah, Dr. Phil earned his undergraduate degree at Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, before attending UNT. Just like me. One of my professors from MSU had him in his class and didn't have too many good things to say about him. Hey why don't we hit up Dr. Phil for a large contribution to our new stadium? He has money.

This is a good idea. After the cookout I'd be glad to help. Where are we meeting up, and at what time.

Jamario led all of D1 in rushing, out-rushed Adrian Peterson when they were both freshmen and hung 200 yards on Colorado. I think he should have made the list too.

As a younger man I didn't buy health insurance because I had no need for it. I was and still am healthy. Now that I am older and have a family to care for, I have health insurance for my entire family, and it is not cheap. I don't like paying so much for our health insurance either. But as a man, it is my responsibility to care for my family and place their health care as a priority. Buying health insurance isn't cheap. So, I think it becomes a matter of where a person places health insurance on their list of priorities. If someone is driving a new car, and doesn't have insurance, then I don't have much sympathy for them. They need to go get themselves a used car and save some money. If someones eating out at the Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse, Red Lobster, or any other restaurant all week long, and doesn't have insurance, then I won't have much sympathy for them either. Stay home and make a sandwich. My point is, most people don't manage their money or even their life very well. If someone can't afford health insurance, many times it's because they choose to place their spending priorities on other things in life. Some have made too many bad choices early in their lives, (not taking an interest in their education, gangs, teenage pregnancies, ect...). These people made their choices and I don't have much sympathy for them. Then there are those who never really had a chance in this world. they were born without the ability to truly care for themselves or other. Those we should and do provide health care for. And I'm all for trying to provide better health care for these people, even if it would increase my personal cost for health insurance. I do think the cost of health insurance is too high, and yes, I think we need to work on a plan to lower the cost, but this government plan is completely unfair to the average American. Ultimately, I don't feel it is the responsibility of me or anyone else to provide health care for people who don't place health care as a priority for themselves, or people who have spent their lives not taking responsibility for their choices. To do so would unfairly place increased health care costs on me and every other hard working American. I hope the people of America wake up, speak out, and stop obama, before he and the liberals completely ruins this country.

Will The Recession Start To Hurt The Big Conferences?
Side Show Joe replied to Side Show Joe's topic in Mean Green Football
This article from ESPN seems to imply that there are some prominent programs out there that are already starting to tighten their belts. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/sto...mp;sportCat=ncb -
I think Mosley averaged 4.9 yards per carry in 2007 when he was healthy. I think he could be an every down back, if we didn't have so many talented backs. The RB position should be a platoon situation for us this year, which could really wear down defenses.
-
The last time I checked Jenkins was about 375. We have a lot of starters and back ups returning on the O. Line this year. Maybe Jenkins could help at the D. Tackle spot. I'm not saying the guy should play every down of defense, but it appears we could use help in the front four, and at his size he should be able to help stop the run up the middle. Have the coaches considered the move?

I wrote this as a comment to another topic but thought it could be interesting to debate. Our new stadium and athletic fee should allow us to grow, while other programs are being forced to contract. Should there be a shake up in the conferences due to a school's inability to meet their financial obligations, perhaps our financial position could be the primary factor in deciding if we get selected in replacing such a school. I know it sounds laughable, but If this recession continues for another three to five years, we could see TV revenues drop, and some of the weaker schools and or private schools in the large conferences really start to hurt. What do you guys think?

F I U Axes Band And Cheerleaders For 2009 Season
Side Show Joe replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not going to get political on this post. It's not in the non-sports category, but in the related subject of the bad economy, I am trying to look for a bright side for our school and athletic program. It is terrible that so many athletic programs are suffering during this economic downturn, and more will probably come to light in the future, but it could be a good thing for North Texas. Our new stadium and athletic fee should allow us to grow, while other programs are forced to contract. Should there be a shake up in the conferences do to a schools inability to meet their financial obligations, perhaps our financial position could be the deciding factor in deciding if we get selected in replacing such a school. I know it sounds laughable, but If this recession continues for another three to five years, we could see TV revenues drop, and some of the weaker schools and or private schools in the large conferences really start to hurt too. Anybody got any other ideas?
