  1. Things such is this is why guys like Neinas exist - they know who is looking or would entertain a meeting yet they (the search firm) don't answer to anyone or leak things to the media and risk potential hires getting in hot water with their current employer.
  2. This has nothing to do with winning the UTKFC game for me. But AD's freeze recruiting when they fire a HC - meaning no offers are made. It has way more to do with keeping recruiting going for this season and actually having some people to fill scholarships when Feb rolls around. If we hire a new HC next week then the point is moot but if this drags on for a month...
  3. I kind of agree with this. For a couple of reasons. 1. There are going to be A LOT of HC moves at the end of this season. We don't get one locked down in a couple of weeks we may get an "also ran" 2. Until a HC is in place, be it Chico or someone else, no offers are going to be made, no offers = no recruits. Now could a big splash hire entice guys to de-commit and commit to us late in the game? Certainly. BUT if point #1 happens and we get scraps due to the amount of overall HC turnover in the league we probably won't have the splash to be flipping anyone late.
  4. you don't want to do video. actual static is the way to go. If a board is available expect at least a 30day turn for production and placement. Don't use more than 8 words in your message. You could also do posters a la annual football poster/schedule and see how many local businesses would let you post. Pretty low cost and quite newsworthy once up.
  5. In the 2013 season there were 25 new HFC in FBS. Churn is the name of the game.
  6. What about these buyouts? Do these give all the feels too? (Numbers rounded up) Stephens $206k Dodge $200k Peterson $413k Peterson B/O at Wake $250k (Yep, we paid to get him) Dickey $525k Added to Mac's $2.1MM Thats about $4MM in the last eight years. or to look at it another way $500k a year of absolutely wasted money. (Although some might argue all the money paid to the majority of those coaches was wasted.) Benford is going to be another $365k or so whenever someone finally decides to extinguish that dumpster fire. Of course we did get $115k for Karen Aston when Texas came calling. Although we paid $100k to Charlotte to buy her from them. Either way $15k WINDFALL! Jonny Jones did net us $200k from LSU though so maybe we stuck that $215k in the banana stand for a rainy day. sigh
  7. I hope that whatever the salary is there will be a buyout clause should our new HC get poached by a big boy - 100% of a years salary back to UNT plus a % for each additional year left on a contract capping it at maybe $1.8-$2MM. If we get it right and we become a springboard at least we'll get paid for our troubles. Id also be very pro a heavily incentivized contract based on grades and wins.
  8. Any idea how many JUCO HFC have made the transition to FBS as HFC and had success?
  9. hope springs enternal
  10. Im not championing one player over another. Just pointing out that our OC/QB coach now HC is free to call whatever plays he wishes and, while the sample size is small, you may be witnessing why old Rocket Arm wasn't starting all along. (Hint: poor touch and serious accuracy issues.) Many on this board got what they wanted. Chico unleashed and DaMarcus at QB and yet the results, so far, are the same. I really, really, hope that everything clicks this week and DaMarcus lights it up. That he has much improved accuracy and throws for a high percentage of completions. However, starter or no, he's been at QB practice from summer to now and his accuracy and touch have not improved. So Im not terribly optimistic that one more week of practice is going get him over the hump. This is not me bashing the kid for any shortcomings - I blame the QB coach.
  11. Too late. They burned the LB from Florida, Darrien McNair, redshirt last week against WKU.
  12. 0-2 as a starter. Oh, and Canales has no "handcuffs" now. Neg on.
  13. Great news that PK is only -3 these days.
  14. The lakes are full, at least the ones that keep Dallas from flooding. Ray Roberts is .5 inches below cap. Lewisville .9 below cap. Grapevine .8 below. Fall rains are going to put a hurt on the Corps of Engineers.
  15. I think Dan McCarney was a good hire as well. When you look at APR, grades etc McCarney held the team accountable and turned some dysfunctional Dodge recruits into Champions, increased the overall GPA and got us back to full 85 ships AND insisted freshman orientation roll through the stadium to help generate student interest, excitement etc. Now, unfortunately he didn't stick the landing and had to go. But he did a tremendous amount to pull us out of the Dodge debacle. The next guy has to maintain all that Mac did PLUS win consistently
  16. Well then it may be time for an FOI for all things emailed to our President.
  17. To bring this thread back around to the original post/question - This is laughable. Even here. I'll wager you one Beth Marie's double scoop on a cone this is not the case. I like a scoop of vanilla and a scoop of chocolate. (Im a simple man.)
  18. Memphis 31 Ole Miss 14 3rd Qtr 7 min lest
  19. He was 9 of 26 and 2 TDs when they finally pulled first team. That's a 34% completion rate against first team D. I think that, above all conspiracy theories, explains why he never started for Mac. He does have a cannon of an arm but his accuracy is terrible. Especially when on the move. Don't really understand why they kept rolling him out considering how much worse his accuracy got as he moved. But he does have a cannon. So there's something to work with but 34% completion needs to step up in a big way if we ever hope to be competitive. And the O-line needs to learn how to run block. Tee Goree showed up tonight and made a BIG BOY play for his first TD Cosh was in the booth tonight. KP was the guy in green on the sidelines sending in the plays from upstairs.
  20. This would be a whole lot easier, less expensive and less time consuming - http://www.amazon.com/HP-Iron-On-Transfers-Inch-Pack/dp/B00000J3LY you could do it today.
  21. I think you also look at: Mike Norvell - ASU OC/QB Coach/Deputy HC - He's been with Todd Graham for 8 years - Tulsa, Pitt and now ASU. David Gibbs - DC Texas Tech - I know most want an OC as HC but Gibbs as coached both at NFL levels for 3 or 4 teams as well as collegiately and has some pretty good skins. Has some history in Texas being at both Houston and now Tech. Tony Franklin - OC Cal While we're throwing names around - why not the guy who is so good at the spread that he has a copyrighted system that dozens and dozens of HS use. Some may worry about his age but his results (excluding Auburn) have been stellar. Scott Frost OC Oregon - Dudes played for legends on both sides of the ball in both college and pros.
  22. I've heard somewhere that either one of the 17 or someone on the BOR etc have a close connection (extended family?) to Applewhite. Not that it means anything.
  23. Being an AD isn't an either or proposition. Just like being a head football coach isn't either/or. But in the end we judge coaches on wins. (Mac did a LOT for this program but ultimately he came up short on wins. and so he was let go. I do think history will be kind to Mac and I think it should.) - RAMBLE: Dodge drove this program off a cliff and into a gorge. Mac came in, had to climb down the cliffside, gather the remaining parts of the truck, climb back up the hill and assemble the remaining parts into a new truck and attempt to drive down the road to victory. With all that was broken he did a pretty good job but ultimately he wasn't a great enough mechanic or driver to get far enough down the road for us. (There are more students at each home game than anytime since Ive been following and they keep showing up. That's a direct result of Mac insisting orientation come through the stadium and him selling the students on the experience. So kudos for that long play. Hopefully whomever takes over keeps it up. But again - it's wins as a HFC that ultimately matter. ) Conversely facilities aren't enough as an AD which is the majority of what RV has to hang his sleeveless sweater on. An AD needs to be great at a few things and at least good at all others. RV has been good at one thing. Getting some facilities. And I applaud that and think we should name something for him. But if he'd been adequate (not even good) at other aspects of ADing we'd be leaps and bounds of where we are, overall, in athletics as a university. He's proven incapable at marketing. Promoting. Scheduling. Managing. Hiring. Listening. Hiring. Accountability. Hiring. Raising money. Hiring. To put it another way: He's a lot like a certain QB - He's done the best he can and he's not a bad guy but his ceiling is low and it's time to get someone in with more upside.
  24. Did he list the other 4?
  25. Greer - Chico recruit at two different schools - How has that worked out? Brock Burgland - Chico recruit. Bust Dajon Williams - Chico recruit. Bust (and is currently a WR at Commerce.) Multiple recruits from Snow College - a place where Chico once coached. Chico recruits - all busts - one didn't even make it to campus because he had ZERO eligibility left. Chico is not the man.
