  1. Nobody bashes Deloach about the defense. Why?
  2. 99, Where is the money? Not being smart, but inside knowledge or good guess?
  3. On what? Nothing shows for it. That money goes to travel to Florida, TN, KY, and other exotic places. Miami, Ohio, Marshall, Toledo,Central Mich Western Mich, etc are in a bus ride of each other. Their stadiums are nicer to! Our band does not even travel. You can compete all you want on paper. It still takes money, it cannot be built on the cheap and last. For us to build a program in the State of Texas, it takes money. I do not care what any other team in the Sun Belt does. It is the toilet of college football, why would we want to aspire to what they do. Celina could kick the shit out of us by the way.
  4. Coach, in all due respect, when you were as compared to everybody else spending "0", and still are, then 70% of nothing is nothing. We are, and always have been so for behind, that the only way to go is up. Most of the high schools now have better stadiums, facilities, and player support than they did when we were winning the conference. You can't argue that these new stadiums all over are not first class. Yes, I know we may have one on the way, but it is not here today. We expect to get our share of those recruits? The donating here is in no way in line with what it takes to build a competitive program, and the reality of that has finally caught up with this program. We may be spending more money, but it is no way near enough.
  5. As for the position coach, they make as much their as our head coach. It is the money and years of an apathetic potential donor base and it finally has caught up with UNT. As I have said, we can wish, make comparisons, etc. Take away the land grants, oil royalties that we cry foul over at other schools, and you still have an alumni base that decided that they wanted a solid competitive athletic program. And, their alumni of today continue that. We, UNT alumni, thought 40 years or so ago that we could build this thing with pocket change while others were investing dollars. Sadly, the results of doing it that way has caught up with us. It just hit me that Dickey did ok until area high schools built stadiums better than ours and a lot of them also built indoor practice facilities. Hard to go to a place that has worse facilities than your high school. Don't agree with you that it is all coaching. Will agree that it is an afterthought to most people, sadly that includes most of our own alumni. As for the parents, if there kid was on scholarship and they have their degree, they should not be disgusted, they should be thankful. And if their kid broke team rules, and was dismissed from the team, then I hope they are working with him to correct his problem so he can get on with his life. We can get another coach, have our flash in the pan success, then be dormant for another 20 years. I wish people would step up, and give so we can have a competitive program that would be fun to watch year in and year out. It will not happen until the donor base takes responsibility and gives. Then we will see change.
  6. Lonnie, You have some solid points in all of your posts. However, most all of these schools that you use as an example do not run the spread. Maybe they run a hybrid, where they mix it up. But not one like Dodge is trying to implement here. We have one receiver, it seems, that can stretch the field and that is Fitzgerald. Cutliffe runs a pro style offense, which is much easier to implement because it is basic as compared to the spread. Not negatively challenging you here, just asking, have you found a program that turned around so quick while changing the offensive system from one extreme to the other like is being attempted here at UNT?
  7. Every week? Did not know that.
  8. I know. As a matter of fact, his record before Southlake was below .500.
  9. Lonnie, He did win 79 games in 5 years and lost 1. NO, it has not translated to wins here, but he had to be doing something right. Wish he/we knew what that something was/is.
  10. From Denton Record Chronicle UNT notes: "UNT has changed its lineup along its defensive front on nearly a weekly basis throughout the season and made another switch for its game against FAU. " No wonder the defense cannot focus and gel, nobody knows if they are going to be playing or who they will be playing with.
  11. also you forgot to mention that the alumni need to donate $$$$$$$$$$$$$. We cannot continue to throw nickels and dimes at this thing, while everybody else (i.e. Texas Tech) throws dollars. It takes a lot of work off the field just just as it does on the field. I am not talking about the people on this board, I know many of you give what you can. I am talking about those out there who should take a hell'uva lot more pride in their school. Lets face it folks, we can talk about land grants ,oil royalties at Tx, A&M, etc being unfair and all. But the fact is, take that kind of stuff away, and they still have alumni who have enough pride to support their school's athletic program. Somewhere, somehow, there was no pride instilled many years ago, and though improved somewhat, it has not changed. Its not all coaches and players.
  12. About the Sunbelt. All this talk about when Dodge took over, us not being good but not in the crapper. Well, I think the Sun Belt is the crapper and for four years we were just the least smelling turd. That said, I think it takes time to build our way out of here. I don't want to be Ball St., ranked one year, then forgotten the next twenty. They are not the next Boise. I want out of the crapper, and if this is what it takes, then it will be worth it.
  13. Got to have players for these things to. Need some Defensive Backs w/ speed, but special teams is a problem I think is more of the coaching issue.
  14. I think Tech can beat OU. My opinion on the coach's poll is they look at the present, meaning they put a lot of stock into how bad a team beats people. That is why coaches like Switzer, then Spurrier used to run the score up. TX did not blow out OSU, and then lost to Tech. I thought TX did not put a lot of points up on OSU because they wanted to control the ball and clock to keep OK St. offense off the field. That plan nearly backfired because of a couple of special teams plays. OU has put up what, 140+ points in their last couple of games. I think that is why they are ranked ahead of TX. Don't agree, by the way, just my opinion.
  15. Bigntex-you have a good post, but you contradict yourself. You talk about how Dodge is in over his head, and cannot get the team to focus, then you make a comparison with Tech. Well, don't you think if Dodge truly had the right personnel for his system, and Deloach had the players for his system, then the "focus" part would not be an issue? How do you know that this team is not properly prepared? Do you attend practices? I know that dropped balls is a sign, but the QB running for his life in a game is not. So, that means he is under pressure from an OL that cannot block. Before Dodge ever coached a game, many posted how it would take time to get his system going, and how exciting it would be. Now, its as if those thoughts were never posted. Tech was not in the National Title hunt in Leach's first couple of years, he had to get players for his system. As for the seniors not respecting him, well he did not recruit them and many have lost playing time. Nobody likes change that effects them, but unfortunately this happens, right or wrong. If we were winning, we would say that is what happens everywhere, and not give it a second thought. But since we are losing, everything gets put under the microscope. It is going to take time here. Good points (exept for the senior/parent thing) , but please make up your mind which it is.
  16. Got mine today. I live in Denton.
  17. Its not whether you win or lose, it's............. winning isn't....................It's the life lessons................The score does not show................ Losing builds...................... Oh, just forget it.
  18. Well, unless there is another miracle at Florida Atlantic in the second half................ we can officially begin the "The Next 2 Games are Winnable Debate"
  19. Be pretty cool if the team could wear genuine throw backs. However, Coach Jones would have a bunch of guys rolling their eyes, and maybe a mutiny when they see how those old shorts fit.
  20. 99, I think Dale does an ok job supporting UNT. He is a lot rougher on SMU. He is working with or has set up some kind of scholarship fund at UNT. I would guess that high school football is what kept them from re-airing the story at 10:00. Still, it was good to get some positive coverage on any newscast no matter the time.
  21. Great story on Dodge on Channel 8! Thank you George Riba. Short summary, said he does not regret taking job, and knows it is going to take time to build this program. Hopefully it will be on at 10 AM.
  22. Several other reports that Patterson is going to KSU. The AD denies it, Patterson denies it, and his agent denies it. They also have been on the phone with Nick Saban on how to handle it at the press conference next week when he is introduced as the new coach. Sounds like a done deal to me.
  23. Don't you have to have a CDL to drive a fire truck? I think you would look pretty cool driving it with that FFR helmet on. UNT'S FFR WANTS YOU!
  24. Sorry, my bad, he was not on Snyder's staff. However, he is not an Osborne clone. His only previous stint at Nebraska was in 2003 when he was hired by Solich as def. coordinator, served as the head coach that year in the Alamo Bowl. He was not hired as the job went to Callahan.
  25. Coach Patterson would have been better off taking the job when Snyder stepped down. If he should take over now, he will really be playing behind. When Snyder took over at Kansas State, the schools that I would guess to be the schools that K-State recruits against with the most, with the exception of Nebraska because there program was strong at the time, were struggling or not on the top of their game so to speak. KU did not care about football, Missouri was not what it is today, Oklahoma and Texas were below their standard, Oklahoma State was nothing, and Colorado was not really a major threat except for a couple of good runs. Now, all of those programs are in tip top shape or they are close to it. Dan Hawkins should be getting Colorado on track in the next year or two. Also, three former Snyder assistants are head coaches at three of those schools now: OU w/ Stoops, Neb w/ Pelini, and KU w/ Mangino. People like to make fun of Mangino because of his weight, but he has a reputation as a great recruiter. What my point is it will be a challenge for Patterson to go in and get the program back into contention real soon. They did not show any patience with Prince, so why should Patterson expect it? He has done great things at TCU, and is a fine coach, but Fran and Tomlinson laid a good foundation for him. Patterson would be best suited for taking over a program like Miles did at LSU. Not taking anything away from him, because he has done such a great job at TCU, and I would hate to see a good coach like him lose out because of some impatient athletic director and other circumstances that are beyond his control.
