I seriously doubt there is anybody "in charge of getting donations for the stadium". This does not make a speckle in the challenges this athletic department has in getting to the point where they will need said person to raise funds. Bet there is not even a desk for them yet.

Miner, I guess nobody wants to play. So, I we will just have to ponder Deloach, and other world affairs over a cold Shiner Bock.

If it costs a million, I hope he will take post dated check.

Unt Appears To Have Lost Recruit To Texas Rival

He is not a WR, so I am sure the coaching staff did not lose much sleep over his decision. -
Firewood Question.
Green Dozer replied to Green P1's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
Mesquite burns very hot, and the smell is very strong. Mesquite is best used for cooking where by it burns down to coals, and stays hot for an extended time. IMO, mesquite would be unsafe to burn in a fireplace, but FFR would know better. I would suggest dropping him a PM. -
Thanks for having the courage to post this. My main reason for asking why Deloach gets a pass and Dodge does not is because many have posted that it will take Deloach "years" to build the defense. So does that mean if we have no improvement, as for wins and losses next year, will he then come under fire? They say he needs to get players for his "system". Yet, the same expect Dodge to work miracles with the players that are here. Deloach has said, though not at a press conference, that he does not have the playmakers right now, and not a word is said. Dodge has the courage to say he does not have the playmakers at a press conference and is ridiculed. I just think if you give one part of the team "years" to build, it stands to reason that you should do the same for the offense as well. You get beat because your defense did not stop the other team from scoring enough times, and your offense did not score enough. I know field position, time on the field, etc are all tangibles that come into to play, but the bottom line is the other team was not stopped. Unfortunately, there are no points for improvement, nor handicaps like golf.

Right on, we need to aim at something. We do need more professional type degrees on the academic side to help us get there. Law, medicine (not like the one we have), engineering (which we have), pharmacy, nursing, etc. Unfortunately, most of our music students don't become Norah Jones or Don Henley. -

Per Quoner's suggestion, I picked up a copy of this month's TX Monthly which has an article entitled "Longhorn Inc.". It details how Deloss Dodds changed the athletic culture at UT, and built a program so that all of their sports teams will be competitive for many years to come. It touched on everything from pimping their logo to how study halls, nutrition, and anything else you can think of is handled. It did not mention the oil wells or land grants that everybody likes to point out that they have. What does this have to do with UNT? Well, we will never have the resources they have. Their athletic budget is now $121 million dollars. Every sport, both revenue and non revenue is funded so it can be nationally competitive. Reading this article reminds me of the short sightedness UNT has used in building their program. This change in culture at UT was begun in 1981 when Dodds was hired. What my point is that there never has been a long term plan put in place here, and followed. We have been flying by the seat of our pants so to speak. We have a university located in one of the most viable regions of the United States, and we still have made no real progress in the past 40 years or so. We could, with some planning, at least be on the same level as say UH, Boise, Fresno just to name a few. We may not be able to implement UT's model, but we can look at others that closely resemble ours. What we are doing overall is just not working, IMHO. With as large of alumnae base, our great location, and a viable ten year plan, we could really turn this thing around. We can build a beautiful multi million dollar stadium, and when the new wears off after the first year, we will still be stuck in this same old rut, playing the same no name schools and having our asses handed to us in OOC games. And nobody of any consequence is going to come here to play just because the stadium is nice. They will want a guaranteed gate, etc which we are not capable of doing. We can and should do better. -

VideoEagle, I would be willing to bet changing Defensive Coordinators was not his idea. I think that change was forced by RV. Just speculation, I have no insider info, but I would be willing to wager that it was not his idea.

Playmaker, So another UT quarterback could do better? I am sorry, but I disagree. I think we need to go with experience and that means they have been a head coach at the college level. Moore, Nelson, Parker, Dickey, Dodge all have been first time head coaches. NONE of them, unless Dodge turns out be successful, has built anything here to warrant moving to another job. Oh, Jerry Moore went to Tech but that was because of his Nebraska ties, and they thought he could use that offense there. No, we need experience. The training ground theory has been a failure. I think Applewhite would have won a National Title at UT if not for Brown being to honest for his own good, keeping his word with Phil Simms concerning Chris. I think Applewhite will be a great coach some day, just not here. Besides, this would be a step down for him anyway.

Not even a UNT chair, even Kroger here has had those from time to time.

Texas Names Successor To Mac Brown
Green Dozer replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
Guys, if we were to get a new head coach anytime soon, don't you think we need somebody who has had head coaching experience at this level? Applewhite has great potential, but wasn't that what we counted on with Dodge? Yes, he is extremely smart, but we need to do something different the next time. Also, I do not think he would give our program a minute's consideration, sorry. Our last 3 head coaches, including Dodge, were in the college head coaching capacity for the first time. Unless Dodge does a 360, none of them will have made a big enough mark to move to a bigger and better job. I think experience is what is needed the next time. -
Might not be a pipe dream, they just got a big donation from some folks in Frisco for a super nice indoor practice facility. Don't recall the amount, but I think $15 million.
-
Well, unless RV and the adm have a different idea, it looks as if Dodge is our coach next year. What stands out the most is that he has no plans in making changes to his coaching staff. Guess he is staring at his play sheet when the special teams are on the field. Well, I hope that Coach Drake can take a "How to Coach Special Teams 101" in the off season. Let the debate about next year begin. It will be a long off-season. Shaft, I guess we will have to put off our cage match until next year.

You know, at tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. there is always somebody being interviewed with a Dallas Cowboy something on. That is starting to happen with the UT logo as well. -

TN isn't about to come calling w/ 5 million to a first time head coach. I know they were clamoring for him, but not at that price. Also, this move to grow Brown's successor has been planned for some time. There was an article in Fortune a couple of years ago called Longhorn Inc., which detailed how Tom Hicks was advising Dodds and Coach Brown on running the program like a business (which it is, big time) and that at some point have a plan of succession. As for Applewhite, I do not think he is or was considered. Texas learned their lesson about promoting in house so to speak with McWilliams, and most recently saw what happened with John Blake and OU. IMHO, Blake has never got his due for the Nat. Championship at OU. Of course TX brought McWilliams back from Tech after his one year stint there, but still for such a short time, it was an in house promotion. -
Muschamp To Replace Mack

Great move for UT. Hope our program becomes so stable some day that we are able to develop our head coaches in house. -
Man, your right, Riley just didn't work out at Southlake. I mean state titles, 5A player of the year. It was all just because of his dad. This stuff has nothing to do with this program, you make the Dodge's sound like the Ewings. All successful organizations in every industry, sport, whatever have "stories". Losers are not talked about. As for Dibrell, he made his choice, plain and simple. Gio and Tune are free to make theirs as well.

Without the media, it would be pretty boring, that's for sure.

Coach Dodge was asked during the usually brutal questioning by George Dunham how the web has effected coaching. Dodge said that if you got a young player that you are trying to build up, and help him correct mistakes, then when he goes to a fan board and is being ripped, then it makes it difficult because they do not have the maturity to handle the criticism. He said the flip side of that is a great player reads how great he is, and lets up because he gets full of himself. IMHO, I do not think Rodriguez gets it done at Michigan. His system is just not Michigan football.

OSU seems faster than last year. May just be a new offense though.

Yea, and his firing really ticked Favre off. A lot of kids may kill to be Aggies, but not enough of the type of player it takes to win year in and year out (like ou and tx) who will pick College Station over Norman or Austin just to play in a pro system. Oh, they will get a few, win a Big XII title, but again not like OU or TX. Its a cultural thing for A&M unfortunately, even though College Station is a pretty special place as for as atmosphere. Most of the Aggies thought Fran would pan out to. Doesn't seem they want to pay the same player salaries they did under Sherrill either. Speaking of Carroll, he also coached the Jets. Must be something in the water with the Jets, because their coaches, including Carroll, the guy at Virginia (Al ?) , and Brooks have gone on to be successful back in college as well. The college to the pros usually does not work, and most guys who were strictly pro coaches w/ no college experience are usually to technical and don't have the patience for the college level (Callahan was a good example).
