To Flyer: Please Clarify The Stadium Funding
Green Dozer replied to Green Dozer's topic in Mean Green Football
Duh! I was trying to clear up a couple of things for a couple of other posters, as they posted my question after Flyer. And oh, thank you so much for letting me know about the "simple search" feature. That will make my future time here so much more pleasant. Also, I want to apologize to all the Pygmies in New Guinea for cluttering up the board with my multiple thread. I understand that it jammed up the internet and you were not able to get your order through for the food drop tomorrow. I will be sending a small donation to hopefully make up for some of your loss, money that could go to the stadium here. And Bowler, again, thank you for you pointing out all of this, and for your information on how the fee goes through the legislature. I wish you had been my state government teacher in high school. -

To you and Tasty, I am not trying to make fun or try to make anybody look stupid.....a poster had the question after Flyer's thread. I was simply trying to help, but as I said to Bowler, I will think twice about it next time. Glad you guys got such a good laugh. -
I said earlier there was a coach's show. Went to the Pourhouse about 6:00 PM. One of my guys in my group was there, and he had called the athletic department to see if there was a show this afternoon. He was told yes. He also had called the tix office for something else, and ask Gabe. Told yes, there is a show. Well, there was not but I had a great pizza and a couple of beers with my buddies. Sorry if anybody saw my post and listened to the radio, but there was definitely not a show. Don't know why.

I think they will want the committment on the 30 mil besides the students part. But committment and putting it in the bank is what is lost here. I have put up a post asking Flyer to clarify.
-
Since Dr. B does not post here, maybe you can clarify what you mean as there is a poster in Houston who thought the BOR was going to "approve the stadium". I think translation is what is confusing everybody. So you are saying there does not have to be $30 million dollars in the bank, right? Maybe that is where the miscommunication is. But, the President and BOR will want to know where it is coming from, which goes without saying, but is that correct.? I would think the stadium will not start without one (depending on which it is) or all of the following: 1) Bonds for financing 2) Corporate Sponsorship 3) Donations 4) Study from other sources of revenue for the stadium. Is the above correct? Thank you for your time.

Green Mean, good positive post. Made me think of a menu though UNT = -$0 Boise State = $$ Utah or TCU = $$$ BCS = $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ (Univ. of Tx athletic budget is $121 million. $14 million is football and mor than pays for itself, program gave a substantial donation to the university) Guess we need to decide what we want to eat, and go pick our restaurant. WHERE WE ARE NOW RELATIVE TO MOST OTHER SCHOOLS OUR SIZE (AND THE 4TH LARGEST IN TX)
-
YES, 6:30, POURHOUSE.

I second that. That said, a stadium is not the medicine to cure the patient here. 17 coaches, 5 with a record over .500. In round numbers, 70% of the men who have been head football coaches at UNT have not been able to get above .500. Yet, we still want to blame them because we are where we are. Some even have the audacity to say we need to get back to winning. You can't give these guys bb guns to hunt elephants. And you can't expect Dodge or the next coach to do much better just because they have a few more bb's than the other coaches. Dickey and Simon are right in a lot of ways. Before somebody posts back and says well Dodge this or that, is out of his league, a dumb butt, etc., I am totally aware of the failures we have seen here over the past 2 seasons. It is not just this present group of alumni who have not donated, it is a whole history. The attitude is changing for the better. And Silver will rightfully point out that a few administrations shut them out. But if we want to reach what many on this board believe is our potential, then we and a lot others have to start anew and donate. Alumnae to have to not only demand they want better, but take action as well. A lot of you I realize do the best you can, never let anybody look down their noses at you. Not all of us have a hedge fund that is fluctuating by a few million and we can just laugh about it. But, for every one person you know at the tailgate, I bet some of you know 5 or 6 alumni who laugh and snicker about you being there, but do not want to step up and take some pride. They would rather put on a State U cap and cry about what every win means to them, yet they do not have one hour of degree work invested in that school. I will tell you I root for another school like a lot of you, and like the majority here, if it comes down to UNT's game, I am where I feel the most responsibility as fan to be at. We cannot count on some corportation or even a few dumping $30 million to fund half the stadium. Money is not everything, but without it you have nothing. 1855, you are right, somebody needs to go to U of H's athletic department and look into how they have built their program back up. No, we are not near downtown Dallas, but we are in a large metro area competing with other colleges in the area, pro sports dollars, etc. and a lot of other entertainment type things. They, like us, carry a commuter tag. I have read good things about the program, and how they have brought it back up. It was pretty impressive with the folks they brought to our home basketball game against them a couple of years ago, even if they were in Ft. Worth for a bowl game. UoH would be a good measuring stick. In ref to Vito's column, it was jab, jab, then bam. Part of it is right, but he really took some shots.

Yea, I see your point and they are very good ones. But, OU had some strong teams after Stoop's first title, and people had the same sentiments as you. But, then again, that is good coaching. Tech will be strong if Leach returns(unless they are smart and throw a ton of money Briles' way. I think Briles should have waited out on the Tech job) . I don't agree with comparing our program to anybody in the Big 12. I just do not think we can think about competing recruiting wise there right now. We cannot match the dollar thing. SMU, maybe, but a lot of facilities/money and not much else of substance. Throw in the admission requirements, Jones is going to have a hard time get the number of players to consistently run his offense year and year out. But I definitely agree with you that Houston is a program that I think we can aspire to simulate. And welcome back, don't take off.

Stan R. It has gotten eerily quiet concerning the fee/stadium since the vote. I even PM'd Flyer and he knew nothing, pretty sad that nobody has even met with him and his group to thank them and let them know where this thing goes now. Lord knows I have had my doubts about this projec , I would think any momentum you get for something like this , you would want to take advantage of it.

I agree. On his part, what does he have to prove, his legacy has been established. And K-State is not the most glamorous program, but it did not have to settle for a Ron Prince I don't think. I just don't know if Snyder can work his magic a second time. Not that he is starting from scratch but only Neb was real strong in his first year at Kstate. If you remember, OU was having post Switzer adjustments. Now, Neb is down, but everybody else including in state rival Kansas have pretty strong programs going. Call it luck the first time, but Snyder is a great coach, and did the best rebuilding project ever in college football. He was just a horse or two short of a national title. It just does not seem to be the same after a coach leaves, then comes back.

Lonnie, McShay of ESPN draft gurus has Bradford listed as the top pick for the NFL Draft this spring. Bradford has not said anything one way or the other unlike McCoy who says he is coming back. If he does not come back, then OU will lose some on the offensive side of the ball. TX and OU simply have such strong programs now that there is no such thing presently as a huge rebuilding year for them. I will even say that TX and OU, with or without Bradford still on the team, will be a top 5 match up in next October. With him, it could be 1 vs 2.

OU is ranked ahead of TX in the other two polls. If they blow out OSU, they will end up in the Big 12 Champ game. OSU will play hard the first two quarters, then run out of steam as OU pulls away. I think the Horn fans are going to be pretty upset. However, OU is a better team than TX beat back in October. But, I think if it comes down to OU TX for the Big 12 Champ game, then TX should go because they did beat them in the season. But that is not how the computers see it.

Choosing Dodge Was A Bold But Risky Choice
Green Dozer replied to HoustonEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Wasn't he the architect or co-architect of the defenses that lost the national championship games, and also got beat by Boise? I know some OU fans who would be happy that he came here. He has had some good moments, but he and Big Game Bob have stumped their tow when the spotlight really got hot (though they made up a lot of ground pretty quick last night). Man, what a butt whipping. All that said, I think he is a good coach. But just because he coaches at OU does not mean he is a head coach, even for us. Two offensive coodinators have left OU for head coaching positions since Venables has been a coordinator or even co-coordinator. He has taken some heat, and some have questioned his decision making at times. I am tired of the experiment stuff for now, lets get somebody who has been a head coach. But it is all for naught, you are right, he is now out of our price range. *Disclaimer-My opinion is biased as I am not a fan of OU at all. I respect your posts, and like replying to them as you seem informed. -

And since I kind of started this, I did not mean that high schools went and had recruiters hitting the junior highs. But if an opportunity presented itself, a booster club member in a club like the one at Odessa Permian years ago, would offer a parent a pretty good job if they would move. Or a kid in a nearby town would move to a school if the program were a little stronger. And a mail box would go up next to an empty pasture, or all of a sudden player moved to live an aunt or uncle of their fifth cousin who had married their second cousin. -

Corrected, thank you, and thank you for your blunt, right to the point, friendly post.. I now recall Harbaugh and a couple of others from the USM days of our esteemed team in the athletic dept. Did you see one of those coach's defense that we passed up get after LSU, btw? 1855, my point was no serious search ( a couple of interviews, narrowing down to two, then having to flip a coin because the decision is so tough), Dodge was the target all along. -

To be passed up, they had to be interviewed. I do not think any type of search was done, I think Dodge was it from the beginning. JMO. -

Guess you are trying to be funny, and that is fine. Please go back and look through this thread. I answered the Mid Tn fan about whether Dodge recruited or not. I told him no, Dodge did not recruit at Southlake, I know now he isn't that smart. Guess you know something different though. Thank you sir! -
Best plan yet. I will chip in if Silver wants a real special bottle of Jack, rather than his usual Mad Dog 20-20.
-
Just want to know if you guys are out there and if Deloach should go out if Dodge is let go, or be promoted immediately. I now agree he would be our best choice given the circumstances, both on and off the field. As a matter of fact, I think the plane ride home was not soon enough to make a change in regards to the head coach. Have yet to see a post or better yet a thread, so maybe this will start it. Carl Spackler would like to know: WHAT GIVES?

Two More Suggestions For A New Head Coach
Green Dozer replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
90: It was only a courtesy interview, he was let go when they fired Solich, and I do not think they wanted to turn it over to a former player again. It works sometimes, but if it were such a great idea, other schools would do it.
