  1. No, we want to get back to our winning ways. We want to change coaches every 3 or 4 years, because after all, its all the coach's fault? Has nothing to do with an apathetic alumnae base. 17 head coaches, 5 with winning records, and only one who was previously head coach has moved to a better job partly because of what he had done here. The other moved mainly because of his having been the off. coordinator at Neb. So, 17 men have not been able to do it here, yet its suppose to be this great opportunity for some body to really build something here. Again, I have said over and over, its not all the coach. Unless more alumni can show some patience, and some more support is found, there will be another 17 who won't either.
  2. I do not understand what you mean. If you consider his first class good, I guess great. If you consider it bad, your choice. My point is to say things like the recruit pipeline being open, connections to the metroplex, etc. I do not think that can be evaluated on 5 weeks. I think we need to see how it evolves over a couple of years. Good, bad, indifferent, just don't think the first recruiting class is a good measuring stick of what we can expect from Todd Dodge in terms of his overall recruiting program.
  3. Sorry, 3.5 million is not crazy. This is not a house. There are engineering studies that have to be done which includes all the drainage, traffic flow, etc. Then there is the electrical design, plumbing, other, plans for sprinkler system etc., every little detail has to be accounted for and included in the blueprint, and there, the price gets up there. Maybe not 3.5 mil, but 2 to 3 million would not be surprising, and I have heard RV say so in person.
  4. So you are dismissing Dr. B's comments? Maybe all us doomsdayer's as you call anybody who questions how this fan base comes up with its $30 mil have been dead wrong, but she is the only one who has been consistent in her statements about the stadium. And in this economy, if RV does sign a corporate sponsor before this spring or summer groundbreaking, then he will have a job waiting for him in NFL, MLB, NBA, and NASCAR marketing.
  5. Lonnie, A couple of things. First, I do not think it is fair to say Dodge had "2" recruiting classes. He was hired at Christmas of 2006. He then has to assemble a staff, evaluate the players here, get an off season program ready for the players when they return to school, etc. I am sure there was not a ton of info on recruits from the outgoing staff. Take away the week between Christmas and New Years (high school coaches out of their office) and he had five weeks. That is unfair to evaluate that class and use it to judge his ability to recruit. I think you throw that out, then grade him on the last one, and the one coming up. Also, I do not understand how you can continue to compare us with Baylor. Big XII and Sunbelt, that's laughable. And the money, we are a third world football program compared to anybody in the Big XII. Sorry.
  6. Thanks for the info..you get smarter every time I read one of your posts, they sure make sense.
  7. I think it is up to the head coach as to whether the assistants are available to the media. What kind of insight do you think they can provide? Nothing more than trying to put as positive spin as possible on the situation just like the head guy. You think for instance Deloach should publicly criticize his team. You would of course complain about that as well.
  8. Good news, thanks Flyer.
  9. I see your point. But when he does show up, then people just bitch about what he says. Again, this was not his choice this time, scheduling conflict with the women's basketball. I was there, and I can assure you there was no chance of a show even if he came into the Pourhouse. Its a no win for him on anything right now.

  11. I agree with Silver that RV, Dodge, etc. are not the program. I also think this board does a lot better policing itself so to speak. I am aggravated about a lot of things, but have been really trying to not come across with so much aggressiveness, or be negative in my posts. A few have been thoughtful enough to e-mail me and suggest some better ways to communicate. Some people put up things for the sake of debate, not because they think one way or the other. I find that fun, and it helps you escape the negativity of other things going on with our country at this time. Another thing is we do not get much in the way of daily press coverage from the local media as in many other college towns. This is really the only forum for getting info about our team. I mean, if it was not for Flyer, what would have we known about the athletic fee, the process, etc. Yes, it does become negative, but sometimes that leads to getting the right information to people. All that said, even the negative is good sometimes.
  12. Reference to my post about coverage was the Star Telegram. Story on page 1 of their Monday sports section, and mentioned Clint Longley, who played there, and the Cowboys Redskins game in '74 when he engineered that come back. That was my reference to coverage, I did not see Monday's Morning News.
  13. OK, and not being a smart ass, but a credit line has to be paid back. A credit line just means you have received permission in advance to borrow money. Don't think you are saying anything different, but there has to be a plan for any money borrowed to be paid back (bonds, credit line, bank loan, sponsors, etc.) above/beyond the student fee, and that is going to be a big obstacle when we get to that point. Banks don't loan on potential anymore, that is why we are in the economic mess we are in.
  14. So Dodge is the sole reason that Miller cannot come back? I mean, is he the one stopping it in your opinion, or is it the red tape? If Dodge is, that is sad as Miller deserves better
  15. PHS, Why then, if players are so mistreated (not saying they are or are not), then why don't they leave the team. What is there to gain by staying and wasting their lives? Nobody is going to the NFL, so why don't they just walk out. Nobody is a the door with a gun.
  16. 80, Not being smart, but I doubt RV wanted to buy dinner for the few athletic dept employees, Dr. B and a couple who sit with her, and about a dozen others. Besides, it is not like you feel you can ask any tough questions. We had a good turnout for the first two shows, then it trailed off. Of course, had a great crowd for the bb social, and the less radio show like you suggest would have been great with a crowd like that. But, why couldn't one have been broadcast on the internet now that I think about it.
  17. Rick, Don't some fire plugs need painting? Check you pm
  18. From Flyer, in another post (and his info is not hearsay): "Good stuff. To answer the question, Dozer... and this is how I understand the process to be so don't spread it as gospel... Since we now have a guaranteed source of revenue with the athletic fee, we have the money needed for the BOR and Dr. B to approve construction of the stadium. What I do worry about is how the project will be FINANCED. Someone has to pay the almost $70 million to the contractors for the actual construction, and that means a bank needs to provide a loan." As it stands now, the student fee kicks in after the stadium. What is in question is the other 1/2 (above and beyond what the student fee provides, as it does not guarantee the full $60 million) and where it is coming from. Does not make any difference how, but some resource is going to needed, available, and guaranteed to get the construction started. Hope that clears it up, don't want Rick to haul you in an ambulance after you hit a brick wall (LOL).
  19. I would sure hope so, it it doesn't at least do that, then we did not ask for enough.
  20. It has been pointed out that I have started a useless thread, so I am retracting it. Quoner, I have also learned there are 3 billion Chinese that don't care what I have to say either, so that really has me down now. So, I admit, this was a stupid post, and if you clicked here to find something that was remotely stimulating, regretfully you are out of luck. All that said, to all in the Mean Green Nation, have a safe and Happy Thanksgiving! It has been a long season, but I am sure most here have a lot else in their lives to be thankful for. See you all Saturday!
  21. Dodge was certainly not to blame. There was no equipment set up or anything. It seems everybody new except me and the other 5 people I had dinner with. Even Pourhouse knew, but we just got a hold of the wrong people who gave us the wrong info. Sorry, you cannot blame Dodge this time.
  22. Lonnie, Good post about Abilene Christian. There are also two other colleges (albeit very small like themselves, but they have football teams) in Abilene as well, plus unlike Denton, their high schools have a strong following from the entire town. Abilene Cooper is a pretty storied program in its own right. So as you point out, something is being done the right way. It is ironic that they are getting the coverage this close to Thanksgiving. An alumnus of theirs, Clint Longley, engineered one of the greatest Cowboy comebacks against the Redskins on Thanksgiving. I remember everybody thought he should be the new quarterback after that, replacing Staubach. But that was his moment, as he and Staubach got into a fight at training camp the following year. Don't think Landry was fond of a quarterback whose hobbies included hunting rattlesnakes, nor anybody who would hit Staubach, so that ended the quarterback controversy.
  23. 80, Yes, he had as many resources/money as others you mention. But, maybe it is the consistent resources over a number of years that is the difference here and the other programs you cite. So, consistency would give us better quality with our facilities. Also want to point again that though Dickey and Dodge have had more dollars, those dollars just have not gone as for, so it is a wash. (airlines, food, electricity, jocks, everything). I do not disagree completely with you at all, but if we had had consistent resources for 20 years like we have presently, we would not be as for behind. I have only seen a few other SBC campuses (no Big West or Mac at all), but I cannot imagine facility wise (i.e. stadium) they have it worse now than us. Hope you see what I am trying to say as I would be most interested in your view.
  24. Silver, exact facts as usual. Just one question, do you think it was easier for him to recruit because we were AA under part of his tenure, or at least headed that way? Cadillacs appeal to some, when a Ford will do for others, if that helps you understand my question a little better.
  25. Stebo, Was there not some type of funds that the Board of Regents came up with to get the athletic center paid off? Don't know the whole story, but this has been mentioned to me that the University paid this thing off, and not with the athletic department's money. Just asking for clarification or if you have any knowledge. FYI, your post is very clear. Thanks!
