Latest Western Kentucky Coaching Rumor?

....because it would just throw everything out of sorts if the 4 cars that were in the yellow lot at 10:45 were to leave and want re-entry at 11:30. Add another car that arrives at that time, and the whole day might just be ruined for the parking folks.

Stoops is under 50 years of age, and not looking at retirement like Mack Brown is, i.e. naming an apparent successor. Being from Youngstown, if he wanted to take over a program close to home, then Notre Dame might be it. Tressel is not going anywhere soon, and Michigan is going to be challenge to rebuild when Rodriquez is shown the door. Also, he may have some Saban in him, who knows. I do not think he will take a job in the NFL. I agreed with the writer who said Stoops was not showing as much fire this year as in the past, plus an interview that I heard with him earlier in the , that led me to believe that he may be at least open to looking at a new job more so this year than in the past.

Just When You Thought Our College Football Irrelevance
Green Dozer replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
I do not completely disagree with you. But a defense cannot call 28 points allowed an adequate performance, and when you do give up the amount of points we consistently have done, you are going to lose more than you win. I have seen in person the defensive line getting their tails kicked at the line of scrimmage, stupid 15 yard penalty calls, not turning to look when the ball is passed, arm tackling, no pressure on the quarterback, getting burned up the middle, etc. The defense has to deal with the hand dealt and make the plays to. It has to put the offense in a good position on the field as well. Hey, there is enough blame for every unit on this team to share in. -
I think the ability of the talent we had on board when Dodge was hired was overestimated. Me saying that is not blaming Dickey. But I do think RV has to bear some responsibility for not having a handle on the ability of the players especially when you are making such a drastic change in offensive philosophy. I think he may have thought, and communicated this to the search comitte, that we were one recruiting class, maybe two and the stadium dream becoming reality to turning the corner on this program. You say SMU did not do that, but they were running a spread passing oriented offense when June Jones took that job. He has just had to shift some pieces, and there were more players that had the ability to fit into his system. It is not just qb's and receivers, but linemen, etc. And I heard Deloach say from his own mouth last year that "....we just don't have the horses."

Guess their coach has spent to much time basking in the celebrity glow of his brother in law. Maybe when he gets fired, Obama will give some college some stimulus money to hire him.

Ohio is his home state, so what about Ohio State (just speculating) at some point? I doubt, hope he wouldn't, take the Notre Dame job. Heard him interviewed on the Dan Patrick Show and he did not completely rule out the NFL, said something to the affect that sometimes you wake up, your family is little more mature, so you can make a move because you need a change. That was his answer to the question if he would ever consider coaching in the NFL, thought it was an interesting answer for a coach who is known to cut right to the point with the media to say something like that. I would have thought Spurrier would have completely talked him out of it. Stoops and Jerry Jones have become good friends, and he his name is always brought up with the Browns because of his Youngtown ties. I think he is definitely to independent and a person who likes to be in control to take a job w/ the Cowboys. He ought to be concerned w/ Texas, they have beat him 4 of the last 5. He needs to win a big game. Yes, the programs you mention are elite but look at what has happened to Michigan, Miami, Notre Dame, and until Saban, Alabama. As for the 3 million dollar house, it would have to be the most expensive one in the OKC area at least top 2 or 3. That said, I cannot imagine any hope of reselling it given today's market conditions that may not improve for several years. Guess Stoops better hope they pay the next football coach like they do him so he will have a prospect to sell it to. FWIW, I doubt he is going anywhere unless somebody throws 2 truck loads of money his way. He already makes 1 truckload.

Oh please Lonnie, you have had a man crush on Stoops since you started posting. It has always been OU this and OU that when you mention a program. Even down to the time Dodge did a chat and you ranted how Stoop did not do that. (Just ribbing you a little ) On a serious note, a couple of national sports guys have pointed out that Big Game Bob has not shown the fire this year that he has in the past. They see it as a sign that he may want to move to a new challenge. He is building a 3 million dollar home in Norman, and his wife is way big in Mary Kay as she is one of their biggest sales person, so who knows. He may also know that Texas is a young team and is only going to better the next couple of years with that Lake Travis quarterback taking over next year, followed by Chase McCoy who is suppose to be better than his brother.

Rick Villareal Should Not Be Allowed To Hire Our Next Hc

I would be interested in that to Bowler. I would also like to know that they actually set foot on campus for a formal interview. -

Gangrene, I doubt there is a major misappropriation of funds because there are not enough funds to misappropriate. Look at the gameday program and you will see as an example that we only have 12 at the $2500 level. The numbers go down as you go up. I agree with you that we should do better, and UNT should go out and hire what they need, not what they can afford. Again, Fisher was leaving w/ a national title at LSU, he was not coming here. We could not afford the assistant coaches that he would want to bring. Sorry, but its true. Now, I have said before that the athletic department should hold at least a meeting with the Mean Green Club (but still open to everybody) and give us a true assessment of the program. It is obvious none of us really know, we are basing it on information that we have heard from different folks. You know one poster said we had 40 million in relation to the stadium, while another said 4 million. Some say donations have increased since Dodge, but I would argue pricing in equipment and travel have made that a wash. All of us have good intentions with our posts on some of this stuff, just as you do, I am not trying to point out that you are right or wrong. Again, I wish we could get a Kevin Sumlin like Houston. He was the OU coordinator. Maybe we could not afford somebody at that level, but we could get one from a Boise, Fresno, or an asst. from the Houston staff. It would be a better start the next time around. -
Well TWU has yet to lose a football game to anybody, including Western Kentucky.
-
When there is a double header, the men's game usually does not start until 7:30, so that gives you an extra 30 minutes to get there. I wish the athletic department would list that as the tip off time as I think it would help attendance and the perception that it is to early.

Hey Good Buddy, you are suppose to enjoy the smell the fall air when you are out walking your dogs, not thinking something up like this to post. But it is interesting, just wanted to rib you.

Rick Villareal Should Not Be Allowed To Hire Our Next Hc
Green Dozer replied to UNT_playmaker's topic in Mean Green Football
Harry, Here is the ticket to your suite at the new stadium. Call RV and offer the football forum as the consultant to the future of the UNT football program and let us say who the new coach should be. We did not have chance at Fisher. He had the pick of coordinator jobs at the time, and certainly could have done better salary wise as a head coach at mid major on up. Plus, I think he knew he was going to Florida State anyway. As for Harbaugh, I do not know. Bottom line is Dodge was hired because he was what we could afford, and there was also no money for any college assistants much above high school level. -

Good points. I do not see a coaching change being made this year, sorry. Everybody wants this great "college experienced" coaching staff, but I think our budget hurts us there as well. I think Dodge wanted to bring his own staff here, but I bet there were a couple of college contacts that he might have wanted to hire, but could not afford them because of our limited budget. There are a lot of assistants at even the mid major level that make more than our coordinators. These guys are not a dime a dozen. As for Houston, they lost a lot in support when the Southwest Conference dissolved. There has not as much money pouring in, which is one reason they moved their home games back to campus. You are right about the donors in the 50's. But my point was based since 1995 or so. We have a larger school and a bigger alumni base. We still should be on par or pretty close. All the demographics (large contingent of commuters, pro teams, located in a large metropolitan area, a private university real close, etc.) are pretty much equal. It is a better model to compare ourselves with than an SMU or somebody like that. -
Tim Crouch announced during the ULM game that next Thursday, Nov. 18th, was UNT night at the Dallas Stars game. He went on to say that the dancers, Green Brigade, Scrappy, and the cheerleaders would be in the plaza before. He said this was tied to the game with Army as some kind of pep rally. That was the only promotion of anything related to Army that I heard.

I understand that Deloach does not want to be a head coach, that is why he has not been one at this point. He also does not recruit on the road, your head coach has got to set the pace and the example. I want a head coach who will recruit. That said, I do agree Deloach has probably had to contain himself which he did not have to do before here. I think if you have an assistant on his staff, then you should have the confidence in him to allow him to be himself. Defense is the emotional side of a team, I say let Deloach be himself.

Good post and some valid points. However, I think 4, or 5 wins w/ staying close in all games (except body bag game) will save his job. This defense is not going to improve to the point where the admin or anybody can demand a 7 win season w bowl appearance. Now if we had won 6 this year, then you would be right. And SUMG, I sat over by the President's box. Same people up there to. Without question, the same people get the invites up in the suites. There are no "behind the scenes" donors w/ cash demanding a change or else. Even with RV doing a "Jerry Jones" on the sideline.

Jim, His ego will not allow that, and he will not walk out on his son. To walk out would make him a quitter in his mind.

Why Is Rv Immune From The Firing Line?
Green Dozer replied to SteaminWillieBeamin's topic in Mean Green Football
Who cares if it was one donation, he got it. So he lost a vote in 2002. Should not have been hard to win if the students at that time cared. Obviously he felt conference championships would make a difference. Simple, there just are not enough people in the UNT community that seem to care about donating to the athletic department. Has donations improved since Dickey left? Yes and the costs of everything has gone up, so its a wash. I never said he had the hardest job in the nation, but it does not take long to call the roll of the athletic directors that do. Sorry, a school with an enrollment of 38,000, 4th largest university in the state, and nearly 90000 graduates in the metroplex should not have to put up billboards, beg for money, etc. With football such a big thing in this state, UNT ought to at least be on the same level as the Univ of Houston. The present president and the preceding one have been by far the best we have ever had when it comes to supporting UNT athletics. Years ago you could blame the admin, but not this time. -

I don't know where you come up with this stuff. Is the groundbreaking not enough for you? They can stick a couple of classrooms in the stadium and use funds that way. As for credit for the new stadium, he should get a lot of credit. As an athletic director, he is part of the UNT administration. It is against the law for he or the president to "campaign" or take a stand in a student vote. That is why both were so quiet this fall. Everything cannot be perfect, but you seem to think so given our vast budget. You know when RV got here, very few cared. Now look at this board, and the passion that is shown for the Mean Green. RV has done a lot to give some of us a reason to be passionate fans. Sorry for fans like you that he missed on Urban Meyer. -
