King, he is rewarding him if he gives him an extension. But how can you realistically put a 7 win ultimatum with this team? He gets 5 wins in a season which is 2 more than in three years. It just does not fit unless the players do a complete 360 and we have some recruits or JUCO come in with immediate impact. I just do not believe "Hoosiers" or "Remember the Titans" is going to happen next year. I respect where you are coming from, but as the team stands now, 5 wins would be a significant improvement.

I do not think Dr. B has her hand in this as much as we would like to believe, and RV is the only person from the athletic staff who is in on this deal right now. Oh, he might bounce and idea or 2 off of Hank, but that is about it. I think this, that the coaching staff change has been in the works since at least the Army game and probably a couple of weeks before that. And I think Dodge was given an ultimatum, at that time, either everybody (including Dodge) or a couple of the staff members. I believe Dodge is weighing his options as well as trying a power play so to speak. Most coaches stand up for their staff, and don't like for others to tell them who to hire or not hire. I do not know how long Todd Ford and he have been together, but Ford is his right hand so he is not going to break that relationship without a fight. Dr. B has probably given Rick the latitude that if Dodge balks, then he is gone. Just a guess, speculation. Now I will go and beat my head against the wall and post more speculation that I am speculating about at some point. I have probably said a lot of nothing here and i am sorry. This deal is making all our heads hurt!

90, Though it is speculation on my part, if Dodge stays, I say 4 to 5 wins next year and he keeps his job. There is no way RV can expect any coach to take this team to 7 wins next year. So, though there will probably be a minimum # of wins, if it 5 and there is improvement, Dodge will coach the first UNT game in the new stadium. I can't see RV demanding more wins than that. Not saying I agree or disagree, just saying.

Kudos to the TTG and Ty Sports for the photo.

Davis has been talking retirement more seriously than Mack.......but it does not matter, he is not going to leave Austin for us anyway.
-
Vito is making himself more and more welcome everyday at the athletic department. I am sure RV is more than less thrilled with this publicity. However, he is in a position to stop it.

I think he is their "OC" in waiting at Texas. I think he will have Greg Davis' job.

99, You may lose a few. But you set in the alumni side of Fouts. Look back as if you are sitting in your seat and ask yourself, are there enough "rabid" fans that are really not going to buy season tix because of this decision? There may be a few new ones over the past 10 years that are leaving, but for the most part it is the same people who have been coming for the past 20, 30, and 40 years. To them, the avg UNT fan, this is just typical North Texas business. This is one of the reasons we find ourselves in this quagmire. I know I changed seats last year because I thought I was sitting in death's waiting room w/ all the old folks around me. Some of them had not bought a new UNT cap or t-shirt for twenty years.

I don't think Dodge is a lame duck coach as many of you believe. To give him the ultimatum of winning the conference or coming close next year is an unrealistic expectation given where this team is at today. If he has 5 to 6 wins, he will coach the first game in the new stadium. Just a guess.

IF WE WERE WINNING, WE WOULD HAVE HAD MORE PEOPLE THAN WE DID AT THE OCTOBER 31ST, 2009 UNT FOOTBALL GAME AT FOUTS FIELD!

Dr. B being added to a meeting, if she even has, is not a bad thing. I think her being a part of it shows she understands that athletics is a window in which to look at the university. Until Pohl, and now her, we have never had a president show that athletics is important to them. It does not surprise me that she would be involved, regardless of the decision.

You are reading and overthinking all of this. I think my point, and 99's point is that other fan bases show up and support their teams. Of course , winning helps. I think a school that most mirrors ours is the University of Houston. They had over 20,000 in attendance at their Halloween game against Southern Miss. Of course, they are having a great season. The point is you cannot blame "Halloween", but rather our scary, losing play for attendance.
-
Sure you can. In Auburn, Alabama Halloween was celebrated on Friday night. And was it not Halloween in such places as Boise, Starkville, Ms., Gainesville, Fla. College Park, Pa. Stillwater, Baton Rouge, etc. I mean have student organizations set up something for kids in costumes, students wear their costumes to games that are on TV. Only in Denton Texas is something like this used as an excuse for attendance.

CG, RV and Dickey had connections from LSU......but they did not get along. We won 4 conference championships. FWIW.

Solid would be most important to me.

Look, Bower had a great run at Southern, and the hard core college football fan is going to know who he is. I would prefer Fran because he has recruited Texas before, so there would not be the need to establish himself here in with state's coaches. Not saying that Bower could not do it, but he was real good at getting players in SEC country, not the Big 12 south.

Dear Mean Green Qb/wildcat Offense Debaters.....

We had better not do this on the night we have 5 cent beer at Fouts or the new stadium, and give away bats commemorating the re-start of our baseball program. -
I am just posting this, I did not write it. Sounds like an outsiders opinion. It came from the Vito report in the DMN Vito blog: http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...nt.310c4b1.html THIS IS A READER'S COMMENT, NOT VITO'S This is what poor teams do. They change coaches every 3-4 yrs because someone came in and couldn't win after year 1. They can bring in a new coach next year who will recruit a different type of player to fit into his system then you will be 4yrs away from being able to judge how well he does as a coach. The first recruiting class for Dodge are juniors this year. Wait until he has had a couple of senior classes then judge. I think that UNT is tough for anyone to coach. The facilities are not UT/A&M/OU, etc... UNT is going to have to hire someone who they will stand by for 7-8yrs. If you can get them to 6-5 or 7-4 you have done well at UNT, but if you change coaches every 3-4yrs you will never have a winning season. Think like Dodge for a moment. UNT has a history of losing. He is offensive minded. Starting out you have a better chance of trying to out score people than you do winning 14-7. Plus scoring makes it more exciting and puts more butts in the seats. Having said that I do think that Dodge needs to spend more time on getting good defensive players to go to UNT. Look at Leach at TT. He will be a 7-4, 8-3 record with the occasional 9-2 record. Spike Dykes did that at TT but he only scored 18-21ppg. Now they have the same record but they score 70ppg. Which would be more entertaining? I know which one the budget office prefers. I hope they give Dodge a couple of more years but we ALL have to be realistic about where UNT football ranks in the football world. Good luck Dodge.

No coach's show tomm....but it was announced Monday, which was the last one, that there would not be one.

He was never the same coach without Gary Patterson, sort of like Parcells without Bellichik.

In Fairness To Dodge About The Redshirt ...
Green Dozer replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
Is Tune leaving just a gut feeling or do you have factual information? -
I thought we wanted coaches with college experience. Sorry, I took that to mean "Div. 1" experience. Still don't think the difference is that much as it relates to what we need on our coaching staff. We need coaches with Div. 1 coaching experience. I don't think junior college coaching counts as that.

Righ on! -
Lonnie, do you really think there is that much difference between Class 5A ball and junior college ball? I don't. I appreciate what Hurd and Brewster did here, but they need to gain a lot more experience as college coaches, get some skins as you have said we need, before moving up to Div 1, most especially at their alma mater. Sorry, I just do not see how bringing those guys back is an improvement.
