  1. Quoner, Had a friend of mine e-mail me from San Diego. He is a Nebraska season tix holder and is there for the Holiday Bowl. I replied that bowl games do not interfere with the holidays here in Denton anymore.
  2. It would have probably been best to suspend Adam James as well. However, I think this thing with Tech and Leach could have waited until after the bowl game. I know the Alamo Bowl is not a BCS bowl, but it is a big deal to players on both Michigan St and Tech. Instead, with Mich St's probs and Tech's, it has turned into a circus. That is not fair to the other guys on both sides who have worked hard in practice, kept their grades up, and their nose's clean. Craig James has ruined the bowl experience, in my opinion, for a lot of people besides his son. Yes, concussions are a big deal, but Leach did not put him in any harm's way as it related to the concussion. I find making a kid sit at a desk in a blizzard for 2 hours more harsh and bizarre than this, but I guess that kid does not have a famous dad with a huge sportsnetwork at his disposal.
  3. Dear Coach Dodge: Please get to Denton as fast as your black Dodge truck will get you here. Go to "On the Cuff" and see Barbara. "On the Cuff" is the pink building on Dallas Drive next to the Frenchy vans. Barbara is the mother of Denton Ryan quarterback Scotty Young. While Leach may or may not survive this, he probably will not be at Tech after next year. I believe it will be of his own choosing, not the school's. He did not like the way he was treated over his contract last year, does not get along with the athletic director, and this latest deal cannot make him feel appreciated. Anyway, Scotty is the real deal. He can chunk the ball downfield and is very accurate. He is definitly a "spread quarterback". He is big and can run with the ball, but does so without being reckless. Old Timer, Quoner, or Tasty might have some stats, but he is a winner. Promise and keep your word that you will open up the competition at quarterback or take everybody's advice on this board and move Riley to receiver. Heck, you might just go ahead and redshirt Young next year, then let him open the new stadium as the starter. I bet money he will be the starter by then. Lots of Ryan fans would turn out to see him play, and he may just be the one to turn to the tide of getting Denton behind our football team at UNT. Of the three high schools in Denton, they have the best following. I do not know what Young's other choices are as for as colleges, but I would hope we would at least try to get him to change his mind and stay in Denton for his college career. The Tech fans have been very excited about him going to Lubbock, but here is a real opportunity for you. If you were to sign him, I bet even Emmitt might get off your back for a month or so. Now get up here! Green Dozer
  4. You seem to know about this subject better than most, but I can't help but think Conf USA would not want to add another public school. Besides, with our new stadium, market, etc SMU will not have as good of an argument as they once had. With a new stadium and in a conference where we play schools that our prospective recruits have heard of will only help us. The winning will improve because we are able to attract better recruits (YES-THE COACHING WILL DEF HAVE TO IMPROVE, I KNOW). It would also be good for SMU as TCU is obviously leaving them behind as well and not playing SMU every year, to have a rival in the area.
  5. Sometimes you have to get what you need, not what you can afford. We are going to have to pay for a coach if we want one that can take us to the next level. I still don't think we are going to find some diamond in the rough that is going to take us to the glory land and a movie be made about it. We will finally have a facility (the stadium), so we should get somebody that can match that, not some guy from a Mt. Union. Again, we will all have to put our money where our mouth is. Otherwise, we will be a Wal_Mart just as SUMG said.
  6. Better not jump to the "honor" conclusion so fast. He might be carrying Tiger's baby!
  7. Silver, The man has heart problems. He also said he thought he would be back for the 2010 season anyway. I think this is a pretty good move on his part, and Florida will still get their recruits. The big boys have their's wrapped up long before now.
  8. CMU seems to be doing pretty good acting as an incubator for coaches who want to climb the ladder. Kelly made the move to Cincy, then to Notre Dame. Jones was just hired at Cincy.
  9. Here is the link, Meyer to take leave of absence
  10. \\ 80, guess not wanting to disrupt the program is why we did not make any changes. (LOL)
  11. Thank you for your $$$$ support and time. What I do not appreciate is your cheap shots at Riley Dodge nor any other player. To say that a player is not playing well is one thing, but you are way out of line in your criticism. No amount of donated money gives you the right to show such a lack of respect, especially to players that you claim you support financially and with time. By time, do wash the sock and jocks or what? Sell programs or peanuts? Just because you do not like his dad, and obviously do not like Riley is no excuse to be so vicious in your attacks. Football is a game, Riley's decisions have not cost one human life. Your posts at times show me that your are arrogant, weak, and certainly have been no stud at any point just as you accuse Riley of not being. Do you know Riley personally? And how do you know SLC players are clamoring to get offers from SMU? Who really cares? Since you are so excited about SMU, why don't you take your time and money and head on over to the hilltop at Mockingbird and Central? I think you will fit in quite well.
  12. You use the word "rebuilding" quite a bit. With the exception of the win and loss record of Dodge, and the OOC of Dickey, this has been probably the best decade for UNT football. We have a new stadium on the way, but unfortunately we are building, not rebuilding. This program has been in a building mode from day 1, never having enough success to notice a drop off. There has never been much in the way of alumni contributions, it has certainly not gone backwards. We do have some suites and donations for the stadium. And I agree, making connections with the current students now will pay off in the future. That is something that no administration in my lifetime up to Pohl has ever done. It will be an uphill battle to connect back with the pre-1995 graduates I think. It will take more than a winning record. 4 conference championships did not do it.
  13. The mods need to create a forum for UT on this board...
  14. and not gripe about having to pay the minimum $$$ per non suite seat or $$$ minimum for a group of seats. Wal-Mart is a pretty good description of the state of our program. And before you say "well a new stadium is on the way", yes that is true. BUT even some Wal Marts, like the one on the tollway, are pretty classy looking. Yet, still a bargain store.
  15. Yes, and many warned him that the offensive line at OU was going to be their biggest weakness this year. Cost him millions I think. But he heard we were building a new stadium, and thinks there must be some money here after all. James Wood is going to give his girlfriend an Escalade. FWIW, I did not mean for my post to put all the blame on the o line, Riley made some stupid decisions many many times. But ours was one of many weaknesses this year and did not help the cause, which is to win. It is hard to win with such a small and slow offensive line. We were outmanned many games relative to size.
  16. My post was just some humor for Greenminer. Your kidding, right? You should read fire johnny jones now . com I damn sure am, Johnny Jones is the best coach in all sports at UNT now.
  17. He has the experience to teach when to fall on the football and when not to.
  18. Isn't Sam Bradford transferring here?
  19. Emmitt, I don't see where I put the turnovers on the o line. He did not get sacked a lot because of his speed, but when he ran, he got the you know what knocked out him. Underthrown balls are made because a quarterback does not get his feet set, though, and is hurried. The o line has some, but not all, responsibility for that.
  20. I agree, but outside of louisiana and arkansas defeats the purpose. For the most part, our fan base is regional. I.E. nearly every school district has a teacher or two from UNT working in it. Probably not in Cal., but in the 5 state region you mention.
  21. How's this? www.firejohnnyjonesnow.com
  22. Leaf was probably a touted recruit, it is what happened when he left Washington for the pros....
  23. I think the biggest boost to us would be to be involved in a new "Southwest Conference". As long as we play schools that nobody (the fence sitters) know about, the less interest there will be in our program. Some way, some how there needs to be a conference of us, Tulsa, RIce, Houston, UTEP, SMU, ULL, just to name a few. This would make for good water fountain talk at work, and more turnout for games. Us being in the MWC is not going to generate any more interest than the Sunbelt to the below average fan.
  24. Riley did not lose the games..the team lost them. Tune would have the same results.
  25. They also look at committment from the fan base. We had a corporate donor who said they were not interested in us because of the lack of support for the program from our alumni/fans. Attendance for the first couple of years in the new stadium will be up no doubt. It is the next 3-5 year window that will determine how this "potential" plays out in relation to moving to a new conference. I think we are what we are for now.
