  1. No, he was not successful as head coach. However, he played on a National Championship team, was an assistant coach as well. His wife was also a cheerleader. McWilliams is part of the UT family, which is why he went to the Longhorn Foundation. He loved UT and I don't think he was villified when they made the change. Dodge has not endeared himself to us in that way. He does not live here in Denton, and I have been to most basketball games since he has been here, and I have yet to see him attend one game. I have been to the football banquets and he can't wait to get out. Dickey and his family were at the games pretty often, and he usually visited with anybody who wanted to talk. You hit the nail on the head as for him being able to reach a "diverse group". That is not something he has not had to do at his previous coaching stops and is something that has bit him in the butt here. Just take a look back at his previous coaching stops and you will see what I mean. I think Dodge was the perfect fit for Southlake. People who work for big corporations, live and breath their jobs, excel in them because they follow the "way" of the company to the letter. They expect the same of their kids in school and athletics. They provide them with all the trainers, tutors, equipment, etc. Don't have to do much motivation when the whole community is made up of over achievers. And Dodge follows his plans to the letter as well. It was just a good match. Put him in say Longview with the same playbook, and he would not have been 79 and 1 at any point. It was just a "perfect storm".
  2. Maybe you are being sarcastic or joking. David McWilliams can talk about playing with legends at UT, coaching some of them, playing and coaching against OU. He is a Darrell Royal guy, and can spin stories about that. What is Dodge going to talk about? Meeting Joe Greene, which is a big deal, but? Getting his ass handed to him for three or four years while he was coach? I know, he could talk about his days at Southlake, and how those were the good ole days. I hope you are stating he would make a good fundraiser because you want a new coach. But if he is our fundraiser after next year, that means his record at best would be 10-31. Now that kind of record should open up lots of doors. I just do not think he has the personality for it. Some here talk how he cannot communicate with his football team, motivate them, yet he is going to motivate people to give money. Sorry, I just don't see it. He is a good guy, but he is dull and boring.
  3. Why are you working yourself up into such a froth? We have an offensive coordinator who is entering his 4th year at UNT. His name is Todd Dodge, and sorry to say, he is not going to make any drastic changes. He, right or wrong, believes in his offense. Oh, he may put a new wrinkle or two (i.e. maybe, just maybe a tight end). I think the change with Ford was on the horizon at the time of Coach Doge's evaluation, thus no change there at the time. There should have been, at least to send a message that what has happened here so for is unacceptable. But Todd Ford was OC in words in the program only. But if you think RV, or Dr. B (LOL) is going to make Todd Dodge bring in in an OC and hand over the keys to it, then I think you need to look back on the past three years. He has shown no flexibility in changing anything on the offense. Oh, I take that back, we do run the ball some. He has not at any point truly opened up the competition at quarterback. Yes, we made changes on the defensive side of the ball (bringing Deloach back, hiring coaches w/ experience). Imagine what we would do if we had that same flexibility on the offensive side of the ball. This hope of a true OC at this point is wishful thinking.
  4. Thanks!
  5. Is Mangrum suited up tonight?
  6. Let me first say I have been a "Dodge Apologist" before I make my next statement, and now I am just trying to be objective for a moment (whether I personally think he should come back at 5 or 6 wins does not make any difference in the context of this discussion). I plead guilty to all you Dodge Bashers out there. If a winning record is your bar in the 4th year is a winning record, then you absolutely fire him even if he is at the 5 or 6 win mark. There has to be some point here where UNT lays out certain expectations of their athletic program and when those expectations are not met, then changes will occur. 12-36 overall record, even if he wins seven games next year, does not make 5-31 at this point look any better.
  7. Ego? We did not have the "Gipper" play here so Dodge could win won for him next year? Lets say we make some changes on offense (i.e. tight end, qb under center sometimes, run an option, etc.) win 6 games next year, but Dodge is let go because he does not have a winning record. Then, his 5-31 record that he has now has got now looks grotesque. Because it is going to prove that had he been willing to make some changes before it got to the "make or break" point, his offensive philosophy was not effective at this level and he was not flexible or was to selfish to make any changes. He has put the make or break year on his shoulders.
  8. I read an article on Muschamp during the days leading up to the big game, and the writer said he had it from sources at UT that Brown was going to coach 3 more years. Dodds, the AD is getting up there to, so it would not surprise me if Brown took his job. Dodds is in his early 70's.
  9. It is wishful thinking to think that Dodge is going to make any changes in his offensive philosophy. Somebody is not going to come in here and we all of a sudden have wider gaps in the offensive line (yes, emmitt, another knock on the o-line), a tight end, and some plays from under center. And why would any coordinator with any pedigree come here for a make or break season when right after the K-State game, he is going to be looking for a job. No, Todd Dodge is not going to have somebody come in here, prove him wrong, and in his eyes, show him up. I also think this has been in the works for a while, probably since the program evaluation at the end of the season, and now it is taking place. Probably Cedar Hill had to run its traps with posting the job, interviewing from within the district, etc. Who knows, but it was hard to swallow that there were not going to be some staff shuffling at the end of the season. Will Gandy go with him? Wish and dream all you want......nothing changes except a new head will be holding headsets on Saturday, but the real offensive coordinator is Todd Dodge.
  10. Could not agree more!
  11. For some reason, I do not think the folks at Tennessee will be that upset to see him leave.
  12. Just think how long the thread is going to be when somebody posts the link to about his marriage proposal at DKR TX MEM STADIUM last night. Now that just may bring this board to its knees. Oh, it is true, I just don't want to start the thread. I am not as funny as Emmitt.
  13. Now that's funny, I don't care who you are.
  14. I do not think this guy would have taken the job if Franklin had something really negative to say about Tuberville. Since Brown and Franklin worked together at Troy, I would think Brown probably gave Franklin a call. It was the alumni and admin that did not want the spread at Auburn. The Auburn people wanted results right then, they did not want to wait out the 4 year minimum it takes to install the spread offense at a Div. 1 school.
  15. Lonnie, you have not bashed Todd Dodge in your last few posts. Is everything ok or did you hit your head?
  16. Lonnie, I cannot believe you think Tuberville and Pelini give more credibility to this conference. I mean they are good guys, and all, but not exactly great football minds. If Tuberville was such a great coach, why didn't Miss St offer him given his Miss ties and all. Tubby is a program builder. As for Pelini, he practically begged for the Neb job, and I believe rides the Stoops' coattails.
  17. Tuberville did say early on in this process he would keep the spread at Tech if hired. It was also mentioned in the link above, Quote: "Last week, Myers told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that Tuberville told him he would keep the Red Raiders' aerial offense in place and wanted to maintain continuity in the program, which hasn't had a losing season since 1992." He said he would make some changes on the defensive side.
  18. It is uncool in society to profess your religious beliefs in public because it seems to offend others some thinkl. Why is it not as offensive for people to laugh or at least make light of people who profess there beliefs? It is not like Colt hands out sweat towels for prayer!
  19. Rick, Who was the first to wear the helmet to the games, you or the Jets guy? Did you get the idea from him? Just curious, no biggie.
  20. Do you think there is a chance Leach will end up at A&M if they can ever come to their senses and fire Sherman or did you see something in this team against Georgia?
  21. Rick, Also, you see what happens to a pass happy scheme like Keenum and his offense when they have not played for a while. There timing is completely off, so the option looked really good, and there timing does not skip a beat.
  22. I was under the impression we were more rounded out as a team rather than missing one player so much. Guess I was wrong or misunderstood.
  23. Video Eagle, I respect your opinion concerning this, you believe very much in your case. However, do you not think that all of this could have waited until after the bowl game? This week in San Antonio was ruined for the coaches and players who worked hard since last season in off season, during the season, watching game film, attending class, and doing what they were suppose to do. Instead they had to put up with this from their coach, a teammate, and some parents. In closing, I would say that I find putting a student sitting at a desk in a cold blizzard, coat or not, in the middle of a football field as discipline for not studying just as much if not more bizarre than this incident. Yet, nothing was said about that at the time nor since. Guess he did not have a famous dad, and to me that is a double standard.
  24. Watching the OU/Stanford game and I caught a glimpse of Western Kentucky's new head coach. Of course, he is a Stanford assistant, but he was wearing a black windshirt w/ "WKU" on it. Nice of Harbaugh to let him have a little publicity.
  25. Yes, and the players that are there are for Leach's spread. Small receivers, gun slingers at QB, etc. It would be a challenge to go to a pro style or even a more traditional spread offense. Don't you think they have already approached Briles maybe through some back channels before pulling the trigger on Leach? This hire might settle the fan/alumni base down, and at least give them a lot of continuity in their program.
