  1. I was here at the game and ULM's offensive line was bigger and much faster than our defensive front. Their guards were very quick and got to the corner to open up holes for their feature back. Yes, I know that is part of the game and all. Just pointing it out. We need some size on our defensive front, which has been pointed out many times here. RV's decision just got tougher, and this will define his career here more than anything except for the stadium.
  2. And DADDYDUMPSALOT will give more money too!
  3. 80, never has been considered. His name was mentioned in two articles by Kirk Bohls (Longhorn beat writer for the Austin American Statesman) right after Dodge was fired , that is their source. Only head coaching experience, as I am sure you know, was at Dallas Carter HIGH SCHOOL. That would really hurt him here this time. However, he has been UT's recruiting coordinator since '05.
  4. RV still has to go through the paces, he committed to it at the press conference when he announced the change. And, even if it is Canales, I would still hope that we talked to other people even if the search led right back to our campus.
  5. YOU SIR HAVE COMPLETELY MISUNDERSTOOD MY POST. IT WAS NOT A REBUTTAL OR REFUTE OF VENABLES, NOR A DEFENSE OF CANALES. MY POINT IS THAT A COORDINATOR FROM A CONSISTENT TOP 10 BCS PROGRAM WOULD BE IN CULTURE SHOCK, EVEN WITH THE NEW STADIUM, BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF THE OTHER COMFORTS THAT HE IS ACCUSTOM TO OR CAN JUST PICK UP THE PHONE, CALL A DONOR, AND GET IT!!! THAT'S ALL. MY OWN OPINION PERIOD. I AM NOT A DISTANT COUSIN OF CANALES, OR HIS WIFE. I HAVE SAID ONLY HELLO TO HIM AT THE COACH' SHOW. SO AIM YOUR RANTS AT SOMEBODY ELSE. BUT I AM SURE MOST POSTERS ARE GLAD YOU CALLED ME OUT, BECAUSE MANY I HAVE TALKED TO WANT TO MAKE SURE THEY UNDERSTAND EXACTLY WHERE YOU STAND. I PM'D YOU MY PHONE NUMBER, SO I AM NOT HIDING!!!!!
  6. Lonnie, I know head coaching is not a popularity contest. I have heard he is not well liked by the players because he has an explosive temper. Some Sooner fans have complained that it is one thing to chew a player out on a sideline, but they have said he embarasses them. Don't know, have not seen it. But, we have a coordinator who has been with a program built from scratch. I think a BCS coordinator would have culture shock here.
  7. Classless as usual Shaft! You got your reaction, now go away. He had concussions, and doesn't want to jeopardize his health any longer. Has nothing to do with anything Dodge did or didn't do.
  8. Why are these high powered alums so concerned now? Where were they the day the stadium was announced and why didn't they demand change right then? The program was in the ditch so to speak as for wins and losses. We have not lost donors and donations overnight in the Mean Green Club. We have dropped from 700 members to 500. We will not reach $300,000 in MGC donations this year, so we are down $200K from 2 years ago. Where have these so caring, all knowing, all powered donors been? Why are these high powered donors caring now? Is the stadium the like dog chasing the car and finally caught it, only he does not know what to do with it?
  9. I would like to crack the Top 75 in 2 years.
  10. George Dunham and Canales both said so at the coach's show. That is where I the 71 number.
  11. Rick, at the coach's show last week, both George and Coach Canales alluded to the fact that a presentation was made to 71 recruits and parents in the meeting room under the east stands. It had nothing to do with UNT Preview event.
  12. So 71 recruits at the Troy game is not an indication if he can recruit? I would also say he has one three games given the fact he was given the most credit for the win against FAU, even by Dodge. I can't believe a guy is being blasted for wanting a job and especially THIS job. And the insenuation that folks who are leaning his way just are not as smart as say the ones that want Leavitt is uncalled for.
  13. It is not fair to judge him based on the K-State game. But then again, if we had gone ahead and judged Dodge on OU a few years ago, we would have known he was in over his head at this level. I hope we stay close, but we won't, just don't have the depth to keep up with them. They have better athletes, like it or not. If it were just coaching, then why not let Snyder and Canales meet at midfield and arm wrestle, why play the game?
  14. Had to go to the store, so tuned into 88.1 to listen to the start of the game, but it is not been broadcast. Instead, kntu is broadcasting the Denton High vs Hereford playoff game from Sweetwater. Just another example of how motivated the overall University is in promoting the athletic program. Yes, I know it is on THE WORD, but that's not the point. Just like not having the tower lit when we beat FAU earlier this year, unbelievable and pathetic.
  15. Was not promoting him, just pointing out what else was mentioned! It is only one of very few thing mentioned outside of this forum and the DRC about our extensive search. But thank you for your expert insight in letting me know he stands no chance, duh!
  16. Bohls also said this about our coaching search: "Wondering if Texas tight ends coach Bruce Chambers would be interested in the North Texas head coaching vacancy. He’s a crackerjack recruiter, very personable, was a successful high school coach in Dallas and can recruit the state very well." His only head coaching experience was at Dallas Carter, so that fact would hurt him here in the eyes of most fans. He graduated from NT in 1982, having played for both Hayden Fry and Corky Nelson. He has been UT's recruiting coordinator since 2005.
  17. I don't know Plumm, I think guys at this level have to big of egos to run scared. I do not believe a "come to Jesus" meeting scares any of them, especially if they are winning. Having said this, I am not saying don't give anybody a second chance. If you tell a Leavitt not to do something that he did not do in the first place, then you take away his passion thus limiting his ability to be an effective coach. But the attempt to apply a normal template to the business of sports is not going to happen.
  18. Agree! Very good points, and worth more than 2 cents.
  19. Think I read 13th or 14th (too late for me to verify), but his brother, Bob, did throttle them this year. But it is Florida State, which means a good coordinator can do ok even when a program like Fla. State is down, but they still get some darn good athletes.
  20. Stoops was defensive backs coach for a year, 1997 I think, so he and Canales have worked together.
