  1. Saw 3 or 4 of them at the game.
  2. You can't buy wins, there is still something called a game that has to be played on the field.
  3. Glad Coach Canales is staying! That said, I hope Mccarney brings in a DC and lends his expertise like Patterson does at TCU and as I am sure Stoops does at OU, when needed. Then spends the other 99.9 percent of his time as the CEO I just do not think a system where a head coach who is wearing two hats (head coach and oc or dc) works as things like special teams, time management and all seem to suffer. He can only do so much, and I would rather him oversee the big picture.
  4. Right after the TCU story, Dale Hansen said UNT had hired Dan Mccarney. Only other thing he said was that he, Mccarney, would be a guest on the 6PM Channel 8 news tomorrow evening. Don't know if he will be a guest in the studio, interview after press conference , or live from the Super Pit.
  5. I really hope Canales is able to be here as OC and even Asst. Head Coach, perhaps our head coach in waiting. But, I just do not have much confidence that it will happen. I think Mccarney will clean house, and bring in his own people. He will want to have total influence and control over this team. I fear he will view Canales as a person who might give the appearance of two voices in the locker room. Now, I think Canales would be the loyal assistant, but i did not work with him for year at USF either, and though Canales says they had a good relationship, liking and hiring somebody is two different things.
  6. I hope he spends the first 30 days recruiting...if he does that right, and wins, that will in turn take care of a lot of the community part.
  7. Just a guess here, but the Gopher's not pursuing Leach or Leach not having interest may have more to do with his offensive system than him personally. Rodriguez has not had the success at Michigan that a lot of people thought he would with his hybrid spread, and maybe Minn took that into consideration. I know Rodriguez has had a lot of other problems to, but just talking about his system in this case. In the Big Ten, with the weather and all, you have to have a running game.
  8. He also is a lawyer.
  9. You are getting like Plumm Joe But, what if a big name guy comes in here and does not win within say 2 years? Those butts that were in the seats because of Coach Big Name won't be here anymore. This is a crap shoot no matter who is hired. Yes, the chances probably would be better with Coach Big Name, but it is not a guarantee. Again, this is one of the reasons the games are played.
  10. Here is the proof: Iowa State's Response Wow! I know, people in glass houses, etc. I can accept slapping a player in the "heat of the moment", that is what I saw many times in my high school days, heck even pee wee. But a man hitting a woman, I am not sure I can stomach that one. What I am saying is that if somebody is being written off because of baggage, I think that is a pretty big bag. But the difference is that "no charges" were filed. I am sure that was not hard for Iowa State to get it swept under the rug with the police in Ames and come out with the he is sorry, gonna get counseling B.S..
  11. Plumm, I think you will love him since he played and coached at Iowa under Hayden Fry.
  12. I need a couple of extra Blue Parking passes if anybody has any that they will not be using. I will be glad to buy them from you. Please drop me a PM and we can make arrangements. THANKS!
  13. How many people here have ever been to Ames, Iowa. Given what he had to work with, he did a pretty good job. Iowa State was a worse step sister to Iowa than Oklahoma State used to be to OU, except Iowa State never had a Boone Pickens, so he is not going to be surprised by the lack of the resource known as money. Again, the coach is a really big piece of the puzzle but so is the talent on the field (which like us, he lacked a lot at Iowa State), and the facilities. I think the word Ames speaks to the facilities as for as Big 12 and Big 10 standards since they are in the backyard of the Big 10. The new stadium will be flash, but if we don't win, the fringe people will stop coming...again.
  14. Yes, unfortunately the mall is still open. And yes, Canales and most of the team were at the mall to promote the game and sign autographs at either 6:30 or 7:00 this evening.
  15. We may well be a first. I cannot think of another coaching search where it was a complete secret until the press conference, somebody will let it slip.
  16. I think Silver has as for as how Canales goes about "selling" the coaching, that is the comparison I have heard. But '03, he has coached within the Fry tree for several years. He coached under Mike Stoops at AZ who played for Fry. Coached under Leavitt who coached under Snyder, and of course you know that connection. He did mention today on the coach's show that at both stops, they had Fry's coaching books.
  17. He wouldn't walk...please!
  18. Sorry, another post was made at the same time.
  19. This is all there is it to it, and is from Brett Vito: "I don't have this from a UNT source yet, but all indications are that the school plans to call a press conference on Monday or Tuesday to annouce its new head football coach. I will be back with more on the WAC and the search later. Check back for more." *Posted at 7:56 PM 11/22/2010 Let the guessing begin!
  20. Dodge is a very nice guy. But as for as engaging the community? No, not like Canales works a room nor did Dodge attend chamber functions, elementary school awards, etc. I talked to a couple of teachers from Savannah Elementary here in Denton, and they both raved about Canales and a couple of players coming to their school for an awards ceremony last Friday. They said even though it was a travel morning for the team, Canales stayed to last possible minute visiting with the kids and teachers, well past the time required.. Dodge and Dickey attended things, and both were courteous (at least Dickey was to me). And yes, they would talk if you spoke to them, and ended holding court in a corner so to speak. When Silver and a few others talk about engaging the community, they are talking about this and attending things in Krum, Sanger, Decatur to drum up support. Dodge did his thing and headed back to Southlake.
  21. Jack, not being smart, but were you there? Because their offensive line whipped our defensive lines' butts. I just thought their offensive line was very athletic, I mean there guards were agile and got to their blocks on the corners very quickly. And then the secondary? That is another story.
  22. Green Machine, you are correct that the NCAA knows it goes on, and I think turns the other way depending on the program and whether it is blatant or over the top. In this case it is pretty blatant and over the top. Given Auburn's track record, I think they will come down pretty hard. But, I do not think it will be the USC.
  23. Look, Riley has said he is staying, at least that has been what has been reported in the media. However, I wonder if going through with that decision, and I am talking on his part (not the new coach), hinges on who the next head coach will be.
  24. Not being smart, but he had to be a pretty good salesman to do what he did at USF.
